    Important to note that when you play a crouch-cancel heavy opponent, dair makes a better approach than nair because it beats CC.
    Another cool thing is Falco's alternatives to shine after a dair or a nair. If you react to your spacing after the dair, or your opponent's smash DI, you can use uptilt to hit behind you or dtilt to hit in front of you. Both have really great combo potential!

    • @SuLLyZorZ
      @SuLLyZorZ Před 7 lety +9

      here's my list of common marth mistakes (netplay scrub):
      1.) Forward smash in neutral, almost never worth it, try to only forward smash airborne opponents, opponents in hitstun or for edgeguarding.
      2.) Using nair as an approach, this is a great way to get shield grabbed. Nair is better used for airborne opponents, or to catch opponents running into you. If you want to approach use well spaced immediate/delayed sh fairs
      3.)Too much jumping, marth doesn't want to be caught in the air, try to stay grounded and get your opponent above/infront of you. Maintain this as well as center stage
      4.) Excessive use of dash attack. In most situations wavedash or dash-crouchcancel d-tilt is better.
      5.) Not grabbing enough. However much you grab you can probably be grabbing more, i've screwed around with grab as my only approach in dashdance/wavedash/tomahawk(empty jumps) and done decently before lol. It's one of the most reliable options marth has, if you can learn to get consistent follow-ups they will put fear into your opponent.

    I was actually going to quit playing Falco for a bit because I thought I had waaaaay too many bad habits but thankfully this video popped up on my phone notifications.
    I can identify with every one except 5 and maaaybe 4. Really eye opening and it made me realize some mistakes I was doing (dair on shield too much, same amount of lasers) so now I can work on them. Always love the Falco vids, thanks Kira!

  • @TheJSRF001
    @TheJSRF001 Před 7 lety

    I noticed many of these myself before this video.
    Feels good to know I'm actually playing smarter as I go. I think another reason people think play Falco the way they do is because they see all these strong players do all these crazy combos and whatnot and think "WOW, I want to be the guy that can do that!" but don't realize it will require years of constant practice, and on top of that there's applying it to your game, which won't come easy.
    There's players who can double shine your shield and do multishines out the ass but can't shffl consistently. Learn the basics and actually learn the game people!

  • @Goreblender
    @Goreblender Před 6 lety +1

    dair is actually no worse than nair on shield. it has two more frames of landing lag, but you also hit the ground two frames earlier due to the extended downwards ECB. the reason that dair seems less safe on shield is because it is easier to hit high on the shield (and thus give your opponent more time before you land) due to the downward reaching hitbox. however, nairs that hit the top of the shield are also shield grabbable. if you time or space your dairs to hit the middle or bottom of the shield, it is just as safe as nair.
    also, double laser from the ledge is safe unless your opponent is close enough to counter it, and for most characters this means being in ledgedash range. it is an excellent mixup and under no circumstances should you stop doing it. you just need to mix it up obviously, like most other things in the game.
    also, spot dodging or rolling after you tech is an important mixup. once your opponent starts waiting it out, you can mix in tech into ftilt, jab, fsmash, wavedash, etc. basically, doing this enough to make your opponent start baiting it gives you a hundred more mixup options. if you never do it, it's just as bad as never doing getup attack and just always letting your opponent cover multiple getup options fearlessly. and if your opponent goes for non-guaranteed grab followups, you should always spot dodge until they stop doing it. why give up free shines in the interest of correcting a "bad habit?"

    @WeatherScreport Před 7 lety

    I don't deny that these mistakes are some easy fat to trim, but here are a couple counterpoints. Falco's up B is so short, that you need to initiate dangerously close to the stage. To mix in up B you must have your jump, and ideally shine stall to trick your opponent. His wings are, how you say, clipped. The mistake I make the most as falco is trying to uptilt to follow up down air at too low of a percent. Shine is your friend.

  • @aabrarrahman4129
    @aabrarrahman4129 Před 7 lety

    You should make top fox mistakes. I have a few suggested ones here.
    1) Mindlessly doing short hop nair in neutral. Tons of foxes just nair where their opponent is. Mix it up! High nair on shield is not safe. Do late nair, overshoot the nair, undershoot it to bait something. Anything but braindead nair where the opponent is, unless you wanna get dashdance/shield grabbed.
    2) Thinking dair is safe on shield. Guess what? It's not and you will get shield grabbed. If you're going to dair, try to cross up their shield. Be prepared to waveshine backwards if your crossup hits however.
    3) Slacking on second-hit up airs. Please, people are learning to SDI, so adjust and practice nailing that second hit only when trying to finish a stock.
    4) Not using short hop single laser. A SHFF laser is much better in faster-paced matchups, because it lets you react faster to enemies, applies just enough pressure to force an approach, and leaves you less open too. Double lasering against falcon is a horrible idea.
    5) Not using running shine. There is so much more to fox's neutral than nair and dair. Running shine is such a strong tool in neutral that makes you unpredictable and is really hard to react to at close range, especially if you've been using a lot of sh aerial approaches in the match.
    6) Not using drillgrab. Super underutilized tool that is a fantastic mixup and even a great way to end stocks without up smash or dashdance grab. Use it!
    7) Slacking on chaingrabs. A spacie-on-spacie chaingrab requires deceptively quick timing, but are lethal if they start. Practice getting every percent down, react to different DI's, learn when to end the chaingrab with a move to start an edgeguard. Also, practice being chaingrabbed. Get those half-DI's down!
    8) Using getup attack too much. We have a wakeup, frame 1 option. Use it! But not predictably.
    9) Going for overly difficult punishes. Instead of drillshining or going for a thunders, just go for a waveshine to up throw/smash, and chase from there. You'll sacrifice 10 percent or so at the cost of stronger consistency.
    Idk which ones are the "top" mistakes, but these are definitely noteworthy. I would love for this series to continue :)

    If your opponent is at kill % and you're just trying to close out that stock, keep your back turned to them as much as possible in neutral. Makes placing a bair or utilt so much easier. it seems simple but once this was pointed out to me it made my life a whole lot easier

    I always used to mix up between 1 laser, 2-3 lasers and 27 lasers. Most people don't bother counting to 27.

    most of my friends don't know tech, and aren't interested in learning it, so I wind up beating them by just spamming Dair shffls when I'm on the offensive, and shield grabs when I'm on the defensive. as a result, I tend to fall for the "too many down airs" point. it's a tough habit to break when it wins me just about every game I play... until I actually enter a tourney and get wrecked.

    My friend sd's basically every game, so when I win he says "Whatever, you only won cuz I SD". He will then proceed to get salty because he isn't winning even though he's ranked higher than I am on our state pr.

    Falco players' worst habit is picking Fox by accident at the character select screen then switching back to Falco.

    Falco is always the bane of new players until they learn that most low level falcos suck at approach mixups and have no idea how to combo DI. Then it gets really fun.

    Worst habit I see from Falcos is exclusively using Nb to wall out enemies. It's really safe, it can be reliable, but it can get really predictable, and its viability gets limited by intricate vertical/platform movement.

    My friends falco always tries to recover go back to the stage quickly by after grabing the ledge and instant double jump to side b, which I always counter it with running to the place and hitting him

    I've seen a lot of falcos spam jump after they shine, so they waste there 2nd jump and then have the chance to get punished if they weren't fast enough to combo
