Infected Blood Inquiry Live: Victims reflect on report findings

Victims of the infected blood scandal must have justice, according to the paymaster general as he suggests criminal proceedings are possible.
The Infected Blood Inquiry is to release the results of its five-year investigation into the mistakes that led to thousands being infected with chronic and fatal viruses, and efforts to cover up the truth.
Contaminated blood products and transfusions have caused at least 2,900 deaths since the 1970s and 80s.
Asked how likely it is that criminal proceedings could be brought, John Glen told LBC: “If there’s clear evidence and there is a pathway to that, then it’s obviously something the Government will have to address. I can’t be sure, but we’ve got to give these people justice.”
He said the Government has not yet seen the report, which is due to be released at 12.30pm, and would not confirm the reported £10 billion compensation figure.
“Today it’s about actually coming to terms with the British state being culpable for a lot of suffering for a lot of people,” he said.

I worked with a lady in early 1980s who had a young son with haemophilia and even to this day I can still remember her anguish at the fact she had no way to prevent her son from infected blood treatment. I think that he’d already been given infected blood products before the issue was revealed.
