It's tragic yet poetic that Cadets graced the field one final time wearing their traditional uniforms. The oldest world class drum corps folding is a gut punch to the activity
props to the Mandarins, man. Amazing how far they've come since long ago.
They have, but they were still amazing in 1996 when they fielded 13 horns and made world class quarterfinals. They have a LONG tradition of excellence and have won DCI open class, Division 2/3, smaller division world championships many many times before going world class.
I was at Lucas oil for finals, I was waiting to be surprised by their show and my goodness it surprised me! That show was awesome
Mandarins was definitely one of my top shows of the year. Very evocative and well executed. Loved it, and I have no connection to Mandarins at all.
Truly a fantastic rising group. I wish I was able to see them at Atlanta.
@@sabadrum I didn't seem to know most of that, and thank you for the info:) I mean, I knew they had won division II/III, and I was (and still am) under the impression that when the division II/III (open class) champion decides to go division I world class, they tend to have a hard time and either go back, or stay, cut their losses, and buckle down for the long haul and years and years of hard work. It's just cool to see it pay off this well:)
Colts and Troopers keep their top 12 status (with Colts getting their highest score in history)
Cadets return to the top 5
Crown returns to the top 3 (and brings the Jim Ott back home)
Cavaliers win drums for the first time in over a decade
BD wins for their third time in a row
Historic year
and the best 4th place show in dci history

As a Blue Devils fan I’m kind of saddened that SCV didn’t compete this year as they would be in the finals without a doubt.
uhhhh, no shit
Their absence this year means that now no corps has been in every DCI finals as SCV was the only remaining one.

Colts really did the damn thing and broke their record! Super proud.
Thanks Troopers! Only show to give me goosebumps!
what about mandarins bro??
And crown??
PR? BD? Crown?
Mandarins I flat out disliked. I enjoyed BC and Cavs, BUT Troopers was the real deal.
I love how when its all said and done everyone takes an opportunity to mingle and visit, as it should be!
I hope Santa Clara returns to the top 12 next year 😭
That's about as likely as the 27th Lancers making a comeback
@@earlviney5212 That's a stupid analogy! When was the last time 27th competed?
i haven't been keeping up with drum corps much since i last marched in 2016 with The Mandarins. but it's so awesome to see how far the corps has come since then! At the time, we would say all the time how Mandarins were making history within the corps each year and I'm so happy to see not only a top 12 finish but a top 6 finish?! amazing

Congratulation to The Cavaliers 💚 that drumline was 🔥🔥🔥, the whole corp was TOP NOTCH!!!! Mandarins💜, Bluecoats💙 & Troopers💛 outstanding performances. 💚💙💜💛. Do I agree with the final scoring not on your life but I'm not a judge.
I agree, BD should have gotten a 99.0 for their awesome show in 2023. I also wanted Crown to get the Silver, but I enjoyed all the shows this year for one reason or another.
@@milescumminski8077 I don’t think BD should have been in the top 3 at all, in my opinion their musical transitions where choppy and visually the show was confusing and all over the place with not focal point. The only thing the judges got right this year was The Cavaliers getting best percussion. Like I said I’m not a judge, I think the Bluecoats were ten time better than BD, the Troopers may have come in 10th but their show was a whole lot better than BD.
@@jouleonyx3110at the end of the day music is subjective. IMO crown had my favorite show this year am I thought BD had one of their best shows in a while, but I can understand why you didn’t like it

@@cousinparty7266 BAC? Get out here with that foolishness 😂 Cavies hands down had the best drum line this season, and as much as I love The Cavalier’s Bluecoats or The Mandarins have the best shows this season.
The cavaliers uniforms were awesome
You'll get em next year Bluecoats!!!
I sure do hope so
I hope but knowing dci the blue devils will just pump out another metamorph clone and win again
@@DemarcusCousins277i wouldnt call it a metamorph clone, but there were very few things similar to it. and actually quite a few corps have done metapmorph-type shows, bringing moments from their previous shows and i dont hear anyone arguing about it. there were many great well written shows this year, but in the end, it all narrows down to the small details and how clean it is, and bd definitely exceeded in that category.
@@DemarcusCousins277
Looking at Corpsclash, multiple judges for general effect and visuals just gave them (BD) perfect 20s. I didn't get to see the show, so I don't know why that happened.
man we say that every year 😭
5th highest score of all time by the bd is insane
They did better than 2010! Which was 98.9, and funny enough they also had the 2010 portion this year too.

This stadium is electric.
I was never a Cadets fan back in the day but have grown to like them over the years and now I love the fact that they have big enough balls to stick with their traditional style of uniforms.
Not exactly the best timing for that tho
@@hiveraids I disagree.
I really wish the announcer would’ve stopped on “blue” when announcing second place and just build the most tension possible
No need because we all knew BD was gonna take it. Only reason he did that in 2019 is because it was really close.
He did that in the 2019 finals awards. Bloo took GE so there was a very real chance they could win. Watch it and see how people reacted.
When did the Cadets put those uniforms on?? It looks so good!!!

I still think Bluecoats shouls have won best overall effect... BD didn't move me like The Bluecoats did 🤷🏻♀️
This was my least favorite Bluecoats show in years. Usually they are always one of my most favorite corps every year! I thought their uniforms blended in with the field. I hated the cons tant voiceovers, and their music did not move me at all. Their guard was terrific this year though! I have a feeling next year Bluecoats will get their second gold medal.
@@milescumminski8077 my dad marched with the Blue Devils in the late 70s and early 80s, so I'm used to that standard. I haven't liked any of the modern stuff in a while. Obviously, there have been aspects I enjoy, but this felt more like the DCI I grew up watching and enjoying. They got 80s loud! I was so proud lol.
Their costumes were fine, but I felt the guard did such a good job conveying the feelings and the set pieces helped with the overall effect and experience. BD this year felt so conceptual. They've gone this way for a few years, but this one lost me entirely. Bluecoats had technical, interesting pieces with a theme that was conveyed well. It felt so much more cohesive to me 🤷🏻♀️
Very excited bc Oscar nominated son lux will be working with bluecoats the next two years!
YESSIR!
The mandarins WOW 6th over all and bested some heavy hitters. They're going to be great next year unless Santa Clara Vanguard doesn't return next year.

@@gunner-qf9eh no what I'm saying that if SCV was to return (seeing they're both based out of California) they'll have no chance to crack top 3 In the future. Although the Mandarins has a deep history this is their highest placing in forever in all their years

Congratulations blue devil
It seems the activity is really at the point now where the traditional names of the units can be dropped or significantly changed. While there's certainly something blue about the Blue Devils, there's nothing blue about the Bluecoats or Blue Stars. WGI groups began coming up with creative names for their ensembles years ago and DCI corps should follow suit.
I have been a follower of DCI competition since 1972 and before that in the 60's. The Blue Devils dominance in DCI is to be respected. The Madison Scouts, Santa Clara Vanguard are noticably absent. In the Scouts case for several years being a final 12. The Cavaliers, Blue Devils, Phantom Regiment, Blue Stars, as well as some others, remain competitive. This consistency of some corps is achieved by recognizing their tradition, uniforms, type of music, symmetry of all Corp members in presentation. A flow of sight, sound, presenting a powerful display to the audience and judges. The Madison Scouts, 1975,1988, Santa Clara 1973 and 1988, were particular years these corps were unparalleled. They need to get back to that type of performance.
I am also from that era and have finally come to accept this evolution of DCI. Lightweight uniform design makes sense. Art installations add to the mystique of the field performance. Just as with any innovation, if it's done well, it's a great development. If it's done badly, well...
Crown was robed
They had a terrible finals run. Cracked solo’s visual package not as clean as semi’s.

@antipeterantioffer Too bad there is no proof of this happening. Just more crying and whining. Back to the basement you go.
I congratulate the talent in BD but design wise it’s just so boring now a lot of my friends and I don’t even like think about them when we rank bands now which is somthing I never thought I’d had to do 2011-2014 from them are sum of my favorite shows period even 2012 it’s weird but they did it once then won then did sum completely different the next year. if I saw 2012 type shows for the next many years like 2017-2023 we wouldn’t have gotten something special like 2014
Troopers should’ve scored higher
Can we address the elephant in the room…”What’s going on with Madison Scouts”
Fix this judging, please. The winner should be determined by the skills of the performers, not how much money a corps can dump on design.
Then blue coats should win lol
BD really didn't have that much design/props if that's what you're talking about
@yeatrue design is more than just props. It's uniforms, it's styling, it's ambiance, etc., which I can tell BD spends a ton of money on.
@@j-0980bro the players looked like they were gonna trip over all those shapes covering the field, no props my ass

Why do people boo the bluecoats
I don't know, the bluecoats are cool
They’re “Blooo-ing” it’s a staple and tradition
Blue Devils show looks literally the same every year, hence why they're so forgettable. Like their entire personality is around Metamorph. But Crown won brass so I'm mostly happy. Also Cadets were saving their uniforms for tonight or?
I do wonder what was up with that. They wore them in parades too.
Somebody is triggered!!! 😢😢 cry babies make winning even sweeter!!!
@@dujuanmoore6697eh, I don’t think he’s necessarily trashing or crying about BD’s win. They deserved it, cleanest on the field for every night they preformed. Just an observation that most years since metamorph, they haven’t been remembered as much as other corps. Honestly, I’ve forgotten the majority of tempest blue and ghost lights already. But congrats anyway on their win, big 3 peat.
Cirque du soleil 2023
I disagree. This year's show was more reminiscent of 14'-15' BD
Crown and Boston got robbed like seriously…Bluecoat show was so damn boring omg man Cavies won fair enough but Boston had the sickest book and was by far the cleanest line this whole season.
Being boring doesn't account for performance scores though and bloo had really good visual scores. They were 3rd in GE, but 2nd and 3rd in Visuals and Music. While Crown was 4th and 2nd in visuals and music. And Boston being 3rd and 4th in music and visuals. GE being taken out of the equation Bloo still Is in second.
Not trying to be a hater, but why can't other Corps win? Why does it feel like BD every year? Those other Corps work just as hard day in and day out but the judges for these events don't seem to see it.
The thing about marching band is that it's tough
You have to not make a single mistake (and if you do have to fix it very quickly in a non suspicious way) in the whole show that you consistently repeat it throughout the months.
Other bands work just as hard, but it seems Blue Devils are one of the few bands who can repeat their show well.
@joshuabailey8617 So you are saying the judges should lose all integrity and let someone else win?

The scoring system is a joke. The way it's structured it gives judges more reason to not make a clear decision.

It's nice that they've found a competition for gay kids. The flamboyancy is actually preferred.
You actually think only gay people do band? 😂
@@tonyamccorvey7177 Oh sorry did I say "only"? I thought I just said gay kids. Obviously there's a bunch of gay kids in these theatrical performances. I just thought it was nice that they have a platform to truly express themselves.
@gabos7892 I just think that gay people also do other activities as well. And even if you didn't say only, it still in a way kind of felt like you were implying only gays do DCI.
But yeah my mistake on the "only".
Once again the biased judges gave the Blue Devils the high GE score which always allows them to win. This needs to be looked into.
GE aside they'd still have won with the performance scores of music and visual alone
They also won combined music and combined visual. So delete the entire GE caption and they still take the win.
So, three set of totally different judges were biased? You just are a BD hater. BD clearly had the best show on the field this year from design to performance. You are just bitter for some reason.
@@interestingandsuch5934 Your ears are quite different from mine, friend.
BDs drill is literally people placed randomly in blobs and will run out of the blob 1 by 1 like how does that get a perfect visual score
Tired of these blue devil mfs winning dog I’m trynna see someone fresh
that ain't international
It is clearly evident Carolina Crown was the best overall. I'm still scratching my head about what the Blue Devils show was all about? I mean can you translate what's being said during your show? 😳 DCI has become such a joke.
its an abstract concept, not about anything. they are just very clean and have great technique
@slycanyon Actually you can. If you know anything about DCI, you would know that BD puts out their annual "BD360" series which clearly explains the show and what they are trying to accomplish. They have been doing this since the 90s.
So either you know already know this, or you are just a bitter basement troll who is just here to hate.
I just think for a new people to dci people or just sum in general wouldn’t want to or try to understand these over the top concepts of shows like BDs. Boston and crown was straight forward and allows the audience to connect better while watching it live

😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴😴
So are they ever going to investigate the BD? I mean cmon the meat riding on them is insane. Their show was no where near the best this year
BD's show was objectively better than everyone else. This isn't meat riding, it's cactus riding.
@mountainsky4279 that's an objectively false statement. This is all art. Therefore, all of it is subjective. They need to fix how much impact GE has on these outcomes. BD's constant winning isn't because they are the best(while the performers are talented, so are the performers of every other corps) their winning is based on the fact that they can constantly dump a ton of money into design.
@mountainsky4279 there is no such thing as objective when it comes to art man. Just because they pour the most miney into production value doesn't mean they should automatically win every category. This is the frustrating thing about dci for me is the fact they care more about the visual aesthetic than they do the music
Yes, all the performers are insanely talented. But some are more talented than others. That’s why it’s a competition. I do agree that the sheets should be changed so performance plays a larger role than design. However, BD’s show was objectively more challenging and cleaner than any other show this season (except in the realm of percussion). It’s ok to say that you don’t like BD’s style, or you’re tired of seeing the same corps win year after year. But to pretend that they don’t deserve it is just absurd.
@doinkmcgoink3415 their shows look the exact same every year man
Way over-produced, like ALL of DCI now.
I don’t care what anyone says. BD didn’t deserve that win. Electric guitar doesn’t belong in drum corps.
yawn
Congratulations to the Blue Devils' 21st DCI World Champion season--an UNDEFEATED season as well (not the first and definitely not the last). In terms of the brass caption award, BD still holds an ENORMOUS lead with 25 trophies at finals. With Crown's win tonight, they tie with Cadets at 8 trophies right behind BD. It would take either Crown or Cadets 18 consecutive wins to edge out BD's brass EMPIRE (2COOLWD!). Keyword: Consistency. For the percussion caption award, SCV still leads the pack with 15 trophies followed by BD with 13. Cavaliers' percussion win tonight now ties them with Cadets at 7 trophies and lands both corps into third behind Blue Devils and SCV. Tonight was BD's 22nd colorguard trophy. Right behind BD in terms of trophy count would be Cadets with 7. It would take Cadets 16 consecutive wins to edge out BD's colorguard DYNASTY. BD's 8-peat in colorguard from 2008-2015 (mic drop!) is a feat of particular note which the brass and percussion captions aren't even close to matching at DCI finals. Otherwise, congratulations to every member who marched this week in Indy. This experience built a foundation of success for all your future endeavors in school, work, and life in general. Remember the lessons you learned this summer and apply them to all challenges that come in the future.
This comment perfectly distills exactly what annoys drum corps fans about BD fans
Blue Devil's "brass empire" still hasn't managed to get a perfect brass score like Carolina Crown did in 2013
Love the corps... HATE the entire sports oriented production.
I participated in creating the entire sports themed production back in the 1970s. it was a natural progression to bring in a dozen cameras (and mics) as with any professional football game and cover every angle of the field. Getting a network sports production truck was achieved, as was getting the finals on ESPN. We ditched the game show hosts and brought in high-profile sports play-by-play announcers and finally marching arts specialists. Creating a 100 yard wide performance stage was the goal and curtaining-off the backfield seats for finals was the finishing touch. Couldn't be prouder of how the production evolved over 50 years.
To the young people competing in the newest evolution of Drum Corps , congratulations to the age outs job well done. To visual visionionaires just KMA and keep moving, if didn't compete in your true Corp uniform don't wear it at Olympic retreat, and lastly for DCI ,stop inviting the Commandants OWN because the disconnect is ridiculous stop showing the past years of the Old Guard in the promos as well as pre 1998 competitive Drum Corps just Stop its insulting let this new activity stand alone, give it a new name if you choose not having the American Flag on the field while competing has always be a great disgrace having Corps present it at retreat as nothing more than a prop is insulting again, at this point just leave the American Flag the Marines Drum & Bugle Corps along with the Old Guard completely out of the new activity, you've changed the activity so much let's see if the rumors are true DCI is no longer sustainable and possibly folds in 2028 if factual its a fitting end to an organization that I competed in for 4 years marching Drum Corps for 19 years, you've destroyed a helluva alot more than you have helped
not gonna read all that, congrats tho (or sorry that happened)
Stop watching if you hate what DCI has become. I marched years ago, and yes things have changed, but that is what life is all about. Things evolve. If you don't like modern drum corps, then find another activity to watch or to become involved in. This one does not seem to make you happy anymore.
If anything, DCI evolution will happen even faster in the next four years. George Hopkins' G-7 concept will become a reality (what irony) with only 7 or 8 top echelon units touring the country. Whomever is left will compete in regional circuits with an eye on advancing to the top 8 in finals with a member or two of the top 8 being relegated to the lower league. It will be similar to international soccer. A DCI Champions League, Euro League, FIFA Club World Cup, etc. It may be the only way forward.
BOOOO DEVILS!! GO PACIFIC CREST
The blue Devils do not deserve first place way because they are making dci boring by winning all the time
