This sounds great . Lol
are you from minneapolis???
/mn in general
Why all "oops foot switch" etc moments.
Wait artofguitar guy.. you say this song was written and played 30 years ago. You look like 32. So you were 2 years old when you played it in that old video). Did i got it right, uh?
All I can say being a member of this band, this shed a tear! Not only the talent of the members of Sanctus I'm part of, Scott Heddle awesome camera footage, Christopher's mastery of this studio, Mike's creative mastery and ideas of Art of Guitar, ALL of us, Rocked!! This is what it is about, then, now, future. I love how detailed and true this really is and nothing but respect to be your guy in this :)
You rock !
You guys killed it!!
The song reminds of 80's era Nasty Savage and Helstar.
Well said 🤘🤗
You guys are fuckin awesome
The fact that you guys wrote that when you were literal teenagers is pretty mindblowing, hats off to you
Tbh, a lot of early metal was made by teenagers. Look at the thrash, death and black metal scenes throughout the world. The average age was between 16-19 years for most of the bands during their peaks!
Awesome song :)☺
This was the exact same thought I had. When I think back of my first Metal Song... 😂
This is so cool because every 50 year old that played in bands in the 90s wants to do this
Damn straight. I was just thinking how fun it would be.
So true
Do it. I started playing again about 5 years ago. Joined a band of similarly aged rockers and now writing and performing just for fun. Living the dream again!
As a 50-year-old who just got together and jammed with his high school bandmates for the first time in nearly 30 years, I wholeheartedly agree!
Having never heard Temptation of Sin before, the first time sounded pretty damn good!
So Good!
Parker, can you send me your shipping address on my email? I feel bad but I still have the book, but I'm mailing it tomorrow finally.
Agreed,very metal!
@@TheArtofGuitar Sure! Just did.
I never stopped and 30 years later it is still the most fun ever.
based, this needs to be made into a album, the whole metal band that failed to make it and then they all went seperate ways, got older, had kids and one day came back for 1 last shot at a childhood dream is a pretty cool angle
God, "based". Yuk.
@@rossrollinson3239shut up
Sounds like a 90s movie lol
what i said was based,you are cringe.@@rossrollinson3239

Considering you guys haven’t played this song together in almost 30 years, you sound pretty good!
I find it surper amusing that the clean intro sort of had a bit that sounds like Day That Never Comes, even though it was like 15 years later. For a first song written by a group of teenagers, it's a huge banger and it encourages me to write music seeing that other teenagers could writie something this good.
I immediately thought of the day that never comes listening to that intro.
I thought it sounded like Watch the Children Pray by Metal Church.
I thought of sanitarium more than day that never comes probably because of the opening solo
nah for some reason i am thinking of wasting love by iron maiden
@@alepallo2wasting love 100% it's identical.. but cool nevertheless
I have so much appreciation for the drummer, like he’s gone and become a proper dad and seems like such a lovely person but underneath it, he’s still a metal head.
you could see his giant smile during the initial play, you can tell he remembered it good and had a blast haha
Reminded me of Bun E of Cheap Trick...lol
@@Jreb1865I had visions of bill Stevenson.
Sounds like a blend of Testament, Metallica and a splash of Exodus. Good shit man! You guys had skills. 🤘🏻
Remind also a bit of 2 fisrt records of Iced Earth.
Yes, and also some Death Angel in there.
The intro 100% sounded like Testament lol
I hear Testament, Metallica, and Megadeth
Add Heathen into that mix, that chugging riff reminds me of Hethens Song
Why isnt this band still active? This is some elite songwriting 😮!!
@@fclefjefff4041 bro its not. its epic
@@fclefjefff4041 these were some kids in '91, for the time its not bad
@@fclefjefff4041of course it's generic , we were 14 and 15 , and it's the 1st song we ever wrote. The song writing definitely was better a few more years in.
Honestly, the whole generic classification crap is just a load of horseshit!
The "none of us got this part right" sounds actually quite cool 😁
Super fun video idea, and it was really impressive to see how far you all had progressed in that one hour. Love the song, too, feels very much like if Metallica wrote Holy Wars for Ride The Lightning, lol.
Sprinkled with a little Testament.
The title of the song gives me Death vibes.
It felt to me more like a song out of Master of Puppetz with a touch of Skolnick.
30 years ago? Dude you don’t even look 30.😂
Honestly, u guys were just as good as any of the thrash bands who MADE it. It just shows how much "luck" is involved in the music industry.
About 10 years late though. The old thrash bands took off in the early-mid 80's
All the ideas in this song had been done to death by other bands by the time it was written. Still well executed imo
Yeah the early 90s grunge killed thrash & hair metal literally over night. The boys were a few yrs late to really be able to take off. At least nowadays thrash is making a comeback...not nearly as big as in the late eighties, but considering how rock music is for the most part dead, thrash is doing pretty good. Megadeths new record did really well when it first came out--& I think it's the best thrash record they've done in 30 yrs in my opinion
@@dariancline4193 lol yeah thats what you were told and not what actually happened and all forms of metal didnt die they just werent in the "eye" anymore
*satan
You guys sound DAMN good for coming in cold and giving yourselves an hour to iron things out separately. I’m certainly impressed.
I would give this video a hundred thumbs up if I could. I love the atmosphere of being in a room and jamming with my mates, figuring out parts and arrangements. This video of you guys getting together, talking about the parts, showing each other some things and just enjoying the music is super inspiring to me. The song is really nice in my opinion. Reminds me a lot of Flotsam and Jetsam and some early Testament. Really really nice one!
I love this comment!
The Testament influence was strong in that song! Sounds awesome guys!
That was TIGHT. How did you guys sound that tight after only an hour of practice? Well done. Ready for a Sanctus reunion show now.
Corey goes from I don't remember shit to the first one getting it...or at least that's the way the edit made it seem...lol. That first pass wasn't as rough as I thought it would be. How anyone sings and plays this technical stuff at the same time is a feat all unto itself. Great stuff man.
This just seemed like good fun. I loved the old cam corder making it feel nostalgic too😂 that was awesome
That old school video feel...was SO cool!
Why not record a full studio version! You're all such better musicians now 😂
Man the handicam footage is the perfect touch
Was worth the purchase then. :)
This is really cool!!! 32 years later and everyone one of you ALMOST remembers it. That's impressive! 13:29-13:34 is legendary!!! Alan's vocals almost sound like Paul Di'Anno mixed with Tom Araya.
Damn i wasnt expecting the vocals to be so good you guys should just release all your songs re recorded please Mike listen to me you need to and I wanna hear all the songs on streaming platforms
Mike, seems like during that hour of practice you also practiced on hitting the correct footswitch 😂
That freakin song was Metal AF!! 🤘🏼I got a hint of Anvil in there.
I think they have a better chance of a comeback than Anvil lol
This is the literal dream of all of us who are now dads, 30+ and miss our teen years of rocking out in bands. What I wouldn’t do to jam with my old band!
Maaaaaaaann... This sounded so good. You guys HAVE to create new material!
What a cool idea! I love that you guys were vulnerable, and had fun with it. I like that it also shows what just an hour of practice can do; not perfect, but so much improvement...as was mentioned .I think that was my biggest take away from the video. The different angles of videography were pretty cool as well. Definitely had a 90s feel. That was SO fun to watch 🤘❤️🔥
You guys need to put out an album. That sounded so good!
Holy shit dude! THE BANDS BACK TOGETHER! Dude, this was legitimately amazing to watch. You need to do more rock n'roll documentary/recording videos.
It’s so cool that you and your band from 30 years ago can get together to do this.
Over the summer I’ve reconnected with my first drummer from ‘88 and we’re having a blast
I am both shocked and impressed that you are even on speaking terms with so many people you knew 30 years ago--never mind still jamming with them. Sadly most of us cannot say the same thing…
Still friends and jam with bandmates from the early 80s..
I dont even talk to my best friends from 20 years ago nor know what the hell happened to them. Not even my best friend from high school last time I saw him was 2 days after graduation. I think the longest I have had a friend that I actually still speak with is like idk 10 years
I was like 'I mean, its not bad' at the first time through... then yall did it proper and I was like 'oh... oh no this is bad ass'
I'm only halfway through the video right now, but I'm loving this so much. I just got home from band practice 2 hours ago, making music with good friends that I've been playing with on and off since 1999. It's always fun to break out the old stuff.
I just finished the video. You guys sound amazing!!
The very first few measures remind me of Take Hold of the Flame by Queensryche.
Very cool to watch. The second playthrough was like you guys never stopped jamming! Loving the Sanctus stuff!
Man you ae lucky to still have contact with your old band mates. You guys killed it.
You did so well to remember this and for a first song it was a belter boys!
Our first song was called 'Minkscule Opinions', we'd just discovered Napalm Death and thought we'd incorporate that in to our sound. Can only remember the first verse now but it didn't stay on the set list long...😅
From an outsider that has never heard this, it sounded like a cold run of a song you guys all know by heart, play all the time and use as a warm up. Couldn’t really tell it’s been over 30 years!
I would love to hear fully mixed versions of these songs on Spotify and other places, you guys are amazing
HOLY S***, You guys cranked it! That was a fun video. Such talent as kids you don't see any more, anywhere. You guys are still so tight. That was nice.
Hello guys from Australia. That was absolutely killer and I would happily hand over my hard earned cash to buy a copy of that song. The intro is truly beautiful and then when the riffs kick in how can you not bang your head? Thanks so much for sharing, and please do the world a favour and release an official version of this song.
30 years wow, you’ve aged extremely well sir.
Guys, that was GREAT. The performance was killer, and the whole video was a lot of fun to watch.
That was a really fun video to watch, thank you. It must have been a blast to make!
I need to hear a remastered version of this. This has a Iron Maiden vibe to it. Killer song guys.
Pretty sick man!! As a legit old person, it’s good to see you youngsters putting it back together! 🔥🔥👏🏻👏🏻🙏
Man I love how much more confident everyone was on the second try.
If there were any mistakes, they were not noticeable. To me it sounded perfect.
Man… this reminded me of my first band and our first songs. I got crazy nostalgic. It’s awesome that you’re all still friends and that everyone wanted to participate. This is great stuff. Thank you for sharing.
Mike is super creative! I had no idea what I was doing there until everything started! Super fun to see the you guys and to see sonic edge studio! Can’t say enough good things about the entire experience
Wow, you guys are still rocking so many years later! Loving these videos with playing your original material. \m/
I hope you guys all still live within a reasonable driving distance to continue playing. My band did this about 15 years ago but played a full show. We practiced for 3 months. It was amazing how much we had all progressed as musicians. Great job you guys!
You guys definitely have a dash of every thrash band that my band mates and I ever strived to emulate and led the way to the version we became. This was a blast to watch
What a great video idea, and the song is sick too. The solos are awesome.
That was a wild ride. You all have much better muscle memory than I will ever have.
This was really fun! Killer guitars too!
Yeah I want to hear an official re-recording of this song by you guys, this song is a total banger!
I will always remember 2024 as the year I rang in the stroke of midnight listening to a Sanctus song from 30 years ago that Sanctus forgot.
This is meant in the highest praise possible - this sounds like such authentic 80s/90s metal. You can almost piece in some of the influences...beginning reminds me almost of Maiden, with a bit of Satriani in the solo. The body of the song, while I heard it said it sounded like Testament, I would say much better than Testament.
You know who it reminds me a lot of - Flotsam and Jetsam. Specifically Suffer the Masses. I'd definitely put this over a LOT of metal that came out after the mid 90s....it has interesting movements that don't clash in any way, the intro was tightened up, which really helped, and the performance is really solid. Great job, and great song.
We wrote this when we were in 9th/10th grade...
🤘🐯🤘First Santus song I've ever heard. Love it. Those guiyar tones are nasty. I felt Overkill Years of Decay vibes on that intro.
3:05
Man, that is just PURE TestamenT worship and I have absolutely zero problem with it. So few bands followed in that vein compared to all the Metallica and Anthrax wannabes. Testament are still putting out fantastic albums to this day. They have only gotten heavier, more proggy, and wonderful in the last 20-30 years. The Alex Skolnick is strong in the solos too. I'd kill for full albums of this stuff.
Yeah, they chose prolly the best parts of Thrash way back in 90-93 and cranked it up to 11 with that young thirst to play some sick and fast passages! Really great that so much was saved after so much time passed, i still love to listen to some good old "Incomplete" by them!
First thing I noticed when I heard the clip from the mirage was it sounded like Testament! That was pretty cool.
A good tune is a timeless track. This is a good tune that time doesn’t care about it passing 30 years. It sounds good right now. Hats off men!
this legit sounded like a ride the lightning song. Insane talent and chemistry.
That break after the first verse is sweet
Holy shit, you guys absolutely kick ass
I'm all in, I'm now a fan.
Well done, all of you sound great
Im liking the lead vocals - definitely classic thrash sound
This totally fucking rocks! Great job, everyone! Y'all still got it!
Awesome video with some cool history behind this whole thing! Nice to see all of you guys after all those years to join forces once again to bring back that magic from the early days was a great idea to do this and to record it for all us fans to see! Thanks Mike❤
After watching each member figure out the parts (With you Mike actually smashing your solos :D) and play it near perfect after so long, i almost shed a tear at the very start!
It sounds kinda Sanitarium-ish, and then ramps up to some Chuck Schuldiner-esque riffage in the later parts! Cory was killing it even before practising and he was awesome after that one hour
It's a real inspiration Mike! thanks for making this vid happen!
Honestly, I love the editing on this. What a little gem of a documentary short this turned out to be! Great job guys
Not gonna lie, I can fuck with that song. Great tune. You guys must have a hell of a catalogue if this was tucked away for 30 years. Awesome job guys.
This was an awesome effin’ video. Seriously, entertaining from start to finish, and Sanctus crushed it.
this was really fun to watch! i hope you all do something similar in the future!
This sounds like it was plucked right out of an 80's metal band catalogue. Love it. I want a remastered version on spotify.
You guys sounded awesome even on the first take!
I really love this, this is so sick! You all did such a badass job on the second take, and the cold run was pretty frickin rad 😄 been listening to the Sanctus vids for a good 10 months now, love ya guys! 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
You guys accomplished a lot in that 1 hour practice window! 👏
The harmony breakdown is pretty cool. The leads are fairly tasty as well.
props for keeping a band togerher for 30 years - to all of you.
I really dig that "Alone in the Dark" riff. You have going. Can tell that Testament heavily influenced you guys. Especially this song.
Thanks, I was trying to remember what that sounded like!
Absolutely great idea!
Would love to do this with my first band...
If we hadn't all broke apart in teenage ego tantrums and never talked again about 17 years ago 🤣😂
Love the song, yall should release it !
Great video. It's so amazing that you still have the band available - together - so many years later. It's incredible honestly.
this is actually really good!, i dig the song!
This was awesome. Do you have a link to the full 1991 performance?
This was really really great too watch, thankyou for making it and sharing it, what a journey
this has got to be my favourite sanctus song
id also love to see you guys re write the song for how you guys would nowadays
you guys should totally make and actual soundtrack out of this!
Holy $#!+ You guys are awesome!! Still!!!
That first attempt was way better I was expecting
Mike! This shit rules ✊️ Kinda reminds me of Metallica, Priest and Megadeth all mixed into one style. I'd love to hear more!
Really impressed with the whole bands musicianship and how quickly you all learnt. Do all the band still play regularly (at home or gigging)?
I dont think you know how much we love these videos. Never a video less than great. It would be nice to see more concert reviews🤙
The sound has grown, keep rocking it!!
Its not a reunion if yall don’t re practice in the basement
Where can I listen to the full song? It slaaaaaaaaaaaaaps
This is the full song
You guys rock! That was amazing. You guys wrote such a great song at such a young age. Way to go. I could only imagine how you it must have felt for you guys getting to doing it again this many years later. So many emotions.
This was both fun, and badass! Thank you for you and your band's efforts, and for posting this video. You guys are great! 🤘
