Intro Song: • Video
The reason that Nick fury is played by Samuel Jackson is that he's based on the Ultimate version of Nick Fury, whose appearance is based on Samuel Jackson.
And I also seem to remember hearing somewhere that Jackson himself really like the idea that a particular version was base on him.
Yeah when Marvel purposely redesigned Nick Fury to look like Samuel L. Jackson he liked the idea and called marvel up to secure any roles for Nick Fury if there was going to be one in the future and thankfully there was! :D
NecroGamer1 And not just that, but the Ultimate's actually were talking about if they did a movie, who would they get to play their personalities? And Fury replied Samuel L. Jackson!
That's dope as fuck
There is also Nick Fury Jr. From the main marvel universe
Everyone is missing the clear picture, Fury looks like SLJ because Fury is what happened to Jules from Pulp Fiction, when decided to give up the game and walk the earth, he stumbled along some great people and started SHEILD
Nick fury needs his own movie already with his howling commandos they could fight against the serpent society or sword
jack green nick fury actualy had a movie in the 1990s. He was played by David Hasselhoff.
@@grima9491 There is a version on YT. He LOOKS the part.
I'm perfectly happy with Samuel L. Jackson's performance as Nick Fury. That being said, I think Ed Harris would have been perfect casting for the character as originally presented.
Man I'm a huge fan and I like how u explain everything to perfection it amazing That all keep up the good work you got real fan behind your work that's what up bro.
dude your intro and video quality rock! I subscribed! I am an instant fan!
Lol welcome to the family :)
Samuel L. Jackson in an Original Sin movie! That's what I want to see!
Samuel L. Jackson has spoken about this and said it was cool that he was made into same Nick Fury. He then took the job of being Nick Fury. It wasn't Marvel's choice either. Mark Millar simply chose the most badass dude to be Nick Fury since he was doing Ultimates like a movie.
There needs to be a movie about Nick Fury agent of shield starring Samuel L Jackson
Can we get a Fury “My War Gone By” video please!? Just wanna hear your thoughts on it! I love your videos. The Punisher videos such as the one about “The End” just shine on the tragic life of Frank and Nick deserves such spotlight too imo. Please and thanks!
I read that the writers and editors at Marvel did get permission from Samuel L. Jackson to make Ultimate Nick Fury in his likeness... but I forget where I read this before... Very in-depth video.
+Yusef Henry That is true
Good for you SLJ. He knew what he was doin. 🤣 I don't blame him at all and think he plays the role very well. Mu!h@ F*ck@!!
Great Video! The amount of time you put into your reviews directly correlates to the wealth of knowledge you share, which I greatly appreciate!
Keep up the good work!
Bishop, The Silver Surfer and Thor are all characters I would like to hear you explain and give more detail on as well.
I enjoy listening to you. You explain everything truthfully about the characterscharacters
Always fantastic stuff. In addition to all the other great things you bring to your videos, I must say, you have a great narrators voice. Just knocks all your videos up another notch. Keep up all the amazing work! ohhh BTW DEADPOOL PLEASE!!! PEACE!
Nice. You've done an outstanding job of explaining Nick Fury and I do agree with your view of Samuel Jackson's portrayal of Nick Fury is superb. I will now check out your other reviews. (PS- The Cool Nerd Show could learn how to present a show from this)
Nothing about Ennis' run? Quintessential Fury right there.
I think Fury would have been around at the same time of Captain America. I am surprised that is never mentioned in any of the Marvel movies, or the TV show about SHIELD.
Avengers iron man thor
Loved how you slowed down your tempo and the soundtrack intro in your old videos!
I've been watching this channel every day since I suscribed. I keep telling my gf I'm busy, but I'm really watching this.
No selfless plug for a certain reddit page?
Samual L. Jackson is set to appear on Marvel Agents of Shield s1e22 'Beginning of the End' that will air on the 13th of May 2014.
Why don't you discuss all Omega level mutants
I'd like to see a vid on that cause recently the Omega level mutants classification has seemed to gotten all cloudy.
you did an amazing job I truly appreciate the effort and time you put into this video 😁👍 thanks a lot I learned a lot
Hey can you do a video on the lesser known characters that could get a movie? like guardians of the galaxy would have been. i.e. namor, man thing, clock and dagger, power pack.
Ya, sure.
Rob - Videos on Marvel Comics and Films Could you do silver surfer?
a year later they make the guardians of galaxy movie
actually... he's a descendant of an unknown Eternal... and clairvoyant.
I do like sam Jackson, I still grew up on white nick fury, he could be a clone played up, in movie version
I don't know if this has already been said but during the filming or casting of iron man, Samuel l Jackson's agent phoned up Kevin Feige asking if there was a part for him because Sam is a huge comic book fan. Kevin asked Sam's agent if Sam would like to have a cameo.
A video on Coulson would be awesome :)
Problem here is that Coulson isn't really a comicbook character. You first see him in the movies, and then, due to his popularity, in the ultimate universe where it's the exact same role to huge extend.
He first appears in Battle Scars Volume 1.1 (January 2012)
Ah, I see, thanks for clearing that up :)
h0bb1t He's awesome though and I really enjoy him in Agents of SHIELD.
Nick Fury had a blood transfusion in Winter Soldier. He then starts to age more rapidly and take a backseat in matters of the Avenger level threat variety.
Rob this is hands down the best video you have done - worthy of a tv documentary. Get these in to a tv production team and make some real money
Hi, is there anyway you can do a review on Gladiator? (Marvel Comics)... You do a great job telling these stories, your audio almost always is near perfect, well editedand easy to listen to... keep up the good work
Here's how Samuel L found out he was Nick fury , He went to a comic book shop is saw his face on On a comic book cover as Nick Fury. He looked at it and said this is definitely me and ended up calling Marvel to ask why their character looks exactly like him Marvel responded Telling him they plan on doing live action movies in the future and they want him to play Nick Fury. He didn't agree to be featured in a comic and they did it without his permission but he was on board with the idea . This was 6 years before the iron man movie was released
In the comics the mention how the Infinity formula is running out of his system. He ages but very slowly. in the comics it also mentioned the the formula originated from Wolverine's blood. And the super soldier formula.
MarvelExplained In an interview Stan Lee said that, dating back to the1950s, he always had intended for his Fury character to be black, but felt that mainstream America wasn't prepared for it.
0:38 cut to action!
FACT CHECK: FF (1961) and Spider-Man (1962) were created BEFORE Sgt. Fury.
Stan and Jack did not leave Sgt. Fury to work on FF and Spidey.
Yahya Abdul Mateen II would make an awesome reboot Nick Fury. Dylan O’Brien would make an awesome reboot Nick Fury if they go that route this time.
Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch (the writer and the artist of the Ultimates, respectively) had planned it that way. Nick Fury looked more like Dean Martin, which to them was to old. They wanted new kind of cool so they changed to Samuel L. Jackson.
One of the best casting calls of ALL time!
Play the "what we see" drinking game!
There is only one problem with that secret elixir that Fury takes, what about Dum Dum Dugan and Gabe jones who were in the same commando unit with Fury in WWII and are also in SHIELD yet have also neither aged a day. I believe thatt he whole world war 2 background should have been ignored or just simply forgotten since SGT. FURY AND HIS HOWLING COMMANDOS have not been in print since the 70s.
I wonder when we'll get to Thanos in the films. You mentioned Von Strucker as a main Nick Fury villain. He is going to be in Age of Ultron... with ULTRON, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch that we know of. He probably will be brought back into the fold because he has info on Strucker (speculation). Will there be a prequel to show their introduction to each other? Played by Sam Jackson? Made before Avengers 3? Which will actually get here a LOT faster than it seems. So my point is with an "unknown" villain (by average audience members) like Strucker that they could use and develop immensely could Thanos by phase 3 even be logical right now? Even though we assumed he would be a part of Avengers 2.
Nick Fury's character is personified in Samuel Jackson's portrail, period.
have you seen captain marvel?
Can you do one on thor? He's my favorite and his background is complicated. You do a great job explaining characters!
I had hoped they would have given kurt russel the role of nick fury.. I like the original and best
YOU NAILED IT!!! AMAZING GUESS/KNOWLEDGE... lol
As of may 2015, he is currently "still alive and underground".. which you know cuz I just watched your video on "quake/sky"..
You SHOULD re-take this video and or simply update it.. THANK for the info on him. It woulda took 4 ever to dig up anything remotely that informative on him..
I REALLY want to see him appear in SEASON 3 of Marvel agents of shirts tv show.. (We already know from agent coulson that he is alive ("Spoiler alert" says Agent Coulson. lol - in, Season 2 Episode 18, i believe)
ALSO why is Coulson the director of shield instead of Maria hill like in the comics?
Seems like they took a bit of quakes character and mixed it with Hills, and added a NEW fury experiment, to make director (director coulson) in order to give Maria Hill, and Quake (Now, Sky) different roles to play.. (OR AM I MISS ING SOMETHING ABOUT COULSON IN THE COMICS I MISSED SOMEWHERE?)
I only know his history from the tv show which led me to believe he is new.. BUT if so, why create him if these 2 other character's could have played his role between them. Or with just adding someone who doesn't seperate the story line. (UNLESS I'm missing something.) If you can explain thank you! :)
Subbed!
Their needs to be an explanation on Daken, Romulus, and Sabretooth
missed the fact in the ultimate universe that Nick Fury was the first use on the super solider before it was used on Steve Rogers
Eric King could be a good Nick Fury if Sam decided to leave it alone, but he(Sam) has done so well with the character, we would have to adjust, and it would have to remain in that Marvel Universe; as the narrator also said,Fury has notoriously appeared in different stories for years, and it works every time. Hope Sam stays for all of the movies, but Eric gets my vote if he moves on.
One about SHIELD and its one offs (SWORD, Secret Warriors, etc) would be cool.
^I second this suggestion
S.W.O.R.D, and W.A.N.D.
what happened with the Sam Jackson thing, is that his agents were going to sue Marvel for use Jackson likeness, but Jackson (who perhaps was not bothered by this), made a deal with Marvel that they can still use is likeness for as long they want, under the condintion that they allow him to play the character in a movie featuring him
Is there sauce for this?
thats just what i have been kept hearing and reading, but never found an source or interview.
Marvel should run a series with Nick Fury and Cable.
Beautiful Video, must see for every fan. I dont like the buttons on the bottom, maybe blend them in for a minute at the start but pls not the whole time :D Whats your favorite hero? And would you consider do an exception and do Green Arrow, I love the TV show and now I wanna know how the real comic story and character is, and also was there a storyline with Deathstroke. If you can do one DC maybe :D i would be very interested. Thx and keep up the good work.
I personally like the buttons across the bottom the whole time, in case I want to jump back to a certain section at anytime, I can, I think he should keep it. Plus, he doesn't really need the extra screen space, being that the video is just page scans of the comics with ken burn effects. I personally like the new format.
I put those buttons in there because not everyone who comes to my channel wants to sit through a 25 minute video. Some people just want tidbits of information. This makes it easier to access that information.
To bad I feel anoyed by it and I dont wanna watch 25 min with a picture blend in all the time. Dont looking forward to another video with this :/
Oh come on, get over yourself and quit whining, these videos are awesome and are done to near perfection, and the pros far outweigh the cons when it comes to the buttons
I love the video with buttons or without, hmmm maybe you could make them half the size : thin layer at bottom :D How ever you decide I will still watch :D
Just a little feedback no bad feelings intended so dont worry man :)
Nick Fury, Samuel Jackson and John Stewart (Black Green Lantern) all look alike. I'm black,, tall, fit and bald with a beard too.
They also came out with a comic and a one shot anime movie can explaining that there was a black soldier who had some of the abilities of Nick Fury and at the end they found out that Nick was his father that you never knew about that has some time next year he checked up with his mother and had a half black half white baby might want to check that out as
Can you do one on Dr. Doom? He is one of the best, if not the best, villains in Marvel.
What is that fantastic intro music?
Batman vs Nick Fury would be fucking awesome.
You should do one on Werewolf at Night. Its not has common of a character and I bet not a lot know about him in detail.
West Coast Avengers for Monday!
Here after Nick Fury D+ news dropped! Excited!
*overlooked the second series of Nick Fury: Agent Of S.H.I.E.L.D. which ran for 47 issues from 1989-1992.
Good vid. One thing. When you were explaining the Infinity formula you didn't specify which version of Fury was subjected to the serum. I know from my own knowledge that it was the 616 version had the Infinity Formula but was that detail ever transferred over to the Ultimate version of Nick Fury? Is that version also considered to be immortal or was that aspect omitted, and he is considered mortal?
I thought Nick Fury in MCU being played by Sam Jackson is because he's Nick Fury Jr? Because Nick Fury Jr is black in the mainstream comics. Or is Fury Jr being black a move made by Marvel to neatly parallel the MCU with the mainstream comics? Either way, it's awesome.
I did IP law and know that no one has copyright to their own image. Marvel wouldn't need permission from Samuel L Jackson to make a character with his likeness.
HT @Michael J. Hoisington, an attorney who specializes in IP law at Highs, Fletcher, & Mack in San Diego, California, published an article online on this topic. He wrote that: "Technically, everyone enjoys a right of publicity. However, it probably comes as no surprise that in most cases, the right is only zealously and jealously guarded by the famous (and infamous) in our society..."
Mr. Hoisington also noted that the "right of publicity is the right to control the commercial value of your name, likeness, voice, signature, or other personal identifying traits that are unique to you. The right of publicity is all about identity. Depending on who you are your identity is a significant asset, worth millions of dollars, and able to wield significant power over the government, business, and private sectors. Put another way, identity is a valuable property right."
Most importantly, Mr. Hoisington cited U.S. cases that established "right of publicity," with Haelen Laboratories vs. Topps Chewing Gum (1953) being the first of those cases, and about which Mr. Hoisington noted that "the court pointed out the right of publicity was not based on protecting a person’s privacy, but on preventing the unauthorized use of a person’s name or likeness." Link to the article yourself, here: higgslaw.com/celebrities-sue-over-unauthorized-use-of-identity/
So, Samuel L. Jackson assertion of his rights to the use of his own likeness, publicity, identity are legally supported by long-established U.S. case law. AND, it probably was a LOT cheaper for Marvel to write the (very famous) actor a paycheck for each of his appearance in a few films than whatever Marvel would have had to pay Mr. Jackson had he decided to sue Marvel for using his likeness for profit without his permission.
Do a episode about stark industries :)
Because after the Ultimate version was based on him he threatened to sue so marvel let him play the character
Love your videos
I missed the original opening. When you were marvel/ D.C. Comics explained.
As a Black guy, even I get annoyed when they change a character's race. I look at comics as our kind of "mythology". While I'll take them from characters that are more solo, the new Fantastic 4 movie takes it to another level (I mean, if Johnny is Black, why is Susan still White? Aren't they siblings? Neither even looks half, unless adopted, and then... yeah). Lots have done this since Daredevil's King Pin.
Hey, I have been reviewing your videos. I do not know if you have been following the MAOS (Marvel's Agents of Shield) series, but at the end episode 22 Nick Fury does start to rebuild SHIELD with Colson as the director.
Also, there have been a few theories brought forward on some of the Characters in the series. I would be interested in hearing your take on it.
spiderman not in the same league as ant-man, black widow, punisher? heck id put my money on peter parker in spiderman vs captain america
I always felt like the mcu is q mixture of the main 616 universe and the ultimate universe, with slight changes on both sides.
Anyone else fall asleep while trying to watch this? Jeesh
OMG SO THIS IS WHERE LMD CAME FROM. that lmd literally killed my love for the tv show
You obviously never saw The Hoff as Nick Fury...
quranruiz white ppl rule!
I'm calling it Coulson is Fury!
BM Bendis was a fan of Samuel L Jackson and that is why the Ultimate version (which Bendis was instrumental in creating) was drawn using his likeness. this is pretty common knowledge if you take a minute to look into it. Your channel would be a fantastic resource if you bothered to do your homework, man.
Great video, but u forgot that ultimate nick fury appeared as a white character in ultimate x-men, then they changed him to look like Samuel L Jackson for the ultimates aka ultimate avengers
Toxin the Symbiote, Miles Morales, Rulk or Iron Fist. :D
Hey Rob will you need to redo this video, because of the revelations in Original Sin 05 (of 08) (2014) that just came out
Something tells me there gonna put secret invasion and original sin together for marvel's movie secret invasion it would make since after what they did to doctor strange into the multiverse
For me its weird seeing Samuel l Jackson in another role like kingsman the secret service
Top notch material !
when samuel jackson learn what happen he told marvel as long as they are have movies with nick fury he will play him, his son nick fury jr, is a white/black man
How about Spider-Woman explained?
Honestly, you really should not have cut out "Secret War", where he got kicked out of SHIELD for taking it to Latveria... And Fury MAX, read it, seriously...
And there actually is a black Nick Fury in the mainstream 616, but he is Nick Fury's son...And it's funny, because the first picture you showed, when he was with Coulson, was the son of the original Nick Fury...
You need to update this, since now Fury is "dead" after Original Sin... People will want to know about that.
Yeah, I want to see more of him, especially in Agents of SHIELD, especially if Frank Castle AKA The Punisher is brought into the Cinematic Universe... Because that would be wicked if they actually had a history, and some flashbacks to Vietnam... Or some Blackops...
awesome video. I think leeam neeson would have been amazing as nick fury. i havent read a lot of comics but i have read secret invasion and loved nick fury. that guy was more badass than the nick fury on tv and in the movies IMHO
You know, I think some people are really getting angry about the wrong thing....the problem is not that they made Nick Fury black...the problem is that they totally screwed up his character!!!!
If they had changed nothing about the character except his race, that would not bother me. But his origin and history were completely deleted, to a point where he is reduced to a stock "spymaster" character, instead of the complex and interesting life that marvel wrote for him. They left out his involvement in World War 2 and had the Howling Commandos being led by Captain America instead. The cinematic Nick Fury does not really act or talk like the original character either.
Also, Samuel Jackson does not look like the character, even if you ignore his skin color. I wouldn't necessarily have a problem with a black nick fury, but they should have got someone who looked more like the character.
Also, they missed a great opportunity...see, there was a guy who was leader of SHIELD after Nick Fury, named G.W. Bridge. His character actually looks and acts a lot more like the cinematic Nick Fury, so why didn't they just have Samuel L. Jackson playing Col. Bridge? He was a serious badass in his own right, an important character, and a good leader...all they would have had to do is remove the eyepatch and change the name, and since they totally deleted Nick Fury's history anyway, it wouldn't have made any difference!
Nick Fury was purposely redesigned to look like Samuel L. Jackson. And cap leading the howling commandos makes more sense anyway especially for the way things are playing out in the MCU. I personally prefer Samuel L. Jackon's Nick Fury
No one else could do the job? What about David Hasselhoff?
The One Above All and living tribunal pls
do phil coulson
Phil Coulson was a newer addition to Marvel Comics and was never part of the older caste of comics.
What about tony stark and the difference between classic Vietnam tony and RDJ tony
I think it would be so cool if the after credits of Avengers 3 was a scene with Nick Fury and Black Widow but he shoots her and green blood came out, i know i'd be screaming "Skrull" in the cinema. :)
Also maybe do a vid on Ant-Man some time, seeing as there is a movie in the works.
Prediction Phil Coulson is Fury Senior .
Nick Fury is a code name.
I like Nick Fury for obvious reasons :)
youuuuu....youuuuu....you're good you.
Great stuff.
Thank for loading
hi I am a fan of you and I have been watching your videos. My friend told me the other day that nick fury became ``the watcher``. can you explain how he became the watcher? and what happened to the old one?
Nick Fury killed him. Check out "Original Sin".
Can you please do Hawkeye?
Cool menu!
hi in agents of shield ,
there is already other that will lead
Seriously, the way you phrase things and your speech patterns add a good 10 minutes to these videos. So m
