Great tutorial, I have granny squares I need to join and been scared of messing it up, I never know which direction to put my hook and now I know, always get very confused on different joining squares, especially when joining onto 2 squares.

I have finished 60 granny squares which I intend making as a pram cover for a relo’s baby who travels a lot. I will join in four’s like u taught me. Now I’ll have make 25 other squares. After that could u teach me to then join the 25 squares to make up whole Afghan?
Hi, Juliet Ong! Join them in the same way - one at a time. I start mine by making a row as long as I want the blanket to be. Then I add another square at the top to begin a second row, and work down until that row is complete. I made a baby blanket like this a few years back. I really like this pattern especially because I am a knitter & sometimes the crochet patterns baffle me.

Is this joining method suitable for bag? I am new to crochet.
I don’t know if anyone has asked this question. Why is it better to put the hook DOWN into the next space instead of putting the hook UP into the next space? Thank you for your help.
This was a great tutorial. I have never joined as you go and love it. But my center did not come out as a definite tight star as yours. Not sure if it’s just a tension thing or if I joined incorrectly. Wish I could post pictures.
Hi Susan! Use a good firm tension at the corners, and join into the opposite corner. If I am joining one square on the row below, I go into the corner of the square above, and then the corner of the square next over, and finish the stitch together. That seems to help keep a good tight corner too. Hope that helps?
