Thanks I really enjoyed riding along and sharing with us each piece of equipment. It was fun, brought back memories, I remember being the person on the wagon stacking the bales then the one throwing them off to be stack in the hay barn...
I can't even imagine having one of those accumulators back when i was growing up on the farm 70 years ago. It sure sames a lot of backs and hard work. Gets the hay off the field dry and in the barn.
City kid, now adult, here. I worked summers bailing hay the old way. That accumulator and the skid steer take all the "work" out of farm work. How long does it take to make that equipment pay for itself?
Impressive especially the accumulator. I admire how well the mouth of it copes with sharp turns and once polished it seemed to work flawlessly. Just how wide is the bed on that baler - at times it didn't seem quite wide enough for the width of the swath when you were having to wriggle around some of those corners and obstacles.
Thanks Dennis for the great shots off the top of the Kuhns. You can t beat that square bale set-up you have. The bales were slidin nicely, and the hay is lookin good.
We do the same thing Dennis when we cut for dry hay bales (round or square). We cut it & lay it out wide, ted it out right away, maybe ted it again, then rake just before we bale it. We don't rake it way ahead of time because it seems the rake calls to the "rain gods"! (or so it seems doesn't it?!?!)
Well done video! I’m considering going to an accumulator. You said it doesn’t like the slopes... that’s my only concern with using one in central Pa. My sons are going in the USMC and it’s hard to find kids to work. Blessings and Great Video!

Looks like good dry hay, were having a hard time to get hay to dry here. High humidity and no wind makes small bales hard to bale. Hay on the ground 5 days.

Only thing that would make this better is a couple of teenagers stacking the hay on a wagon behind the baler like we did as kids. Oh the good old days. Ron
D, had to laugh when I saw you struggling with the giant first bale. I struggle with that every year, but don’t want to leave hay in the bailer over winter. Question for you; how tight do you have your bail twine? I have a couple of customers that want it like a banjo string and I can’t seem to get it that tight.
It’s banjo tight, the accumulator has a lot to do with that it puts even back pressure on the bales I don’t have to run the tension very tight. My baler also has hydraulic tension.
Nice video!! That new tractor seems to be working well for you. You might want to try that spray on graphite at tractor supply so those bales turn easer at the bottom
Thanks I use graphite on the top if you look closely you can see the gray on it. I haven’t really had any trouble with the bales turning unless they are to long.

Thanks I’ve got lots of videos with drone footage but it takes a lot of time to set up and concentrating once it’s in the air, I just didn’t have time for all that on the day I was baling I have some videos coming with drone shots of the baler.
That was a very good video....The only thing wrong with it was..it wasn't long enough!! I could have watched it till the cows came home for milking time..So, I had to restart it all over again...anyhow, I wish you and your family God's Blessings and upon your farm.
GREAT Video, Dennis! There's nothing more satisfying to do or see that hay processing! It is so fulfilling! Back in the day a Narrow Front was the way to because of the zero turn radius ahead of the baler. What ever happened to Narrow Fronts? Does anyone still make them? sdh in CT

In the field I alway grab from the 2 side they don’t fall of the grabber when you pick them up the other way the 2 will tend to fall off the hooks if you hit bumps going across the field
I like watching this operation it's a lot different than the way we baled when we were growing up I could actually still put up square bales this way lol there is a question that I have does the acumillater ever seem like it might tip over on steep ground when it is full I just was curious because I have not pulled one good video thanks for the video

DLH Farms oh I bet! Sometimes when I watch your videos you’ll start the engine and there’s no sound and I’m like am I deaf or is that cab that quiet!? Haha. That 6330 I got was a huge upgrade cab wise. In the Massey 393 that used to be my main tractor the cab was so loud you wouldn’t even think about trying to talk on the phone. Crazy
We have a bc 5060 as well. Bought 2 months ago. We are have trouble with the baler tieing. Did you have any trouble when you bought the baler new? We are running New Holland twine as well. The baler will bale about 4-5 then miss one. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks
Yes actually I had that exact problem. The problem was the twine disc brake each knotter has one the bolt to tighten it is on the right side top of each knotter it has to be pretty tight but the main problem with it was that the hole that the brake (witch is just a thin piece of spring steel) goes through is a little to big and the brake can slip off the bottom (or it could be the top I can’t remember) of the twin disc therefor it doesn’t hold the correct tension on it. Loosen the bolt on the brake then make sure the brake is up on the disc then tight it and it needs to be pretty tight. If it’s not tight enough it can let the twine go occasionally if it’s to tight it can tear the twine but it would have to be really really tight for that to happen. Im using plastic 7200 170 twine

It has hay preservative in it. If the moisture gets to high the hay can mold you can spray that on it up to a certain moisture and it will prevent mold it’s kinda like vinegar. I didn’t have to use it in this video the hay was good and dry
I’d like to see how you get your bale tension set up and what the bales weigh. I got an af12 last year and struggle still getting the bales just the right weight and tension.
Weight has more to do with moisture than anything. I make my bales 36 to 38 inches, make them tight they run about 55 to 65 pounds if they get heavier I know the moisture is getting high.
That’s about right. Where do you set your baler tension at though? I know the bale chute on the accumulator adds to the tension of the bale When it’s full of bales.

I’m constantly changing gears to try and keep the baler fed consistently anywhere from A3 to B4 for first cutting you can go faster in second cutting normally you could probably pull it with 75 pto hp
Have you learned to drive that Deere with no clutching like stopping while round baling/loader work,is it pretty smooth like going from forward to reverse without clutching thanks
I need to find a way to hold the bales in the shoot coming out of my 5050 baler and going up into the bale basket I have. If I make a turn too sharp they pop out of the side.
That’s what was on the lot at the time and got a good deal. They have the same stroke count per min the biggest difference is the pickup width. I do wish it was wider at times but other than that it’s a great baler.
I think there is more work going into moving the camera around than there is bailing hay lol. If I was just a little closer I would come help you get it done. I'm just a few hours away. 🤷♂️💪😁
Wow, that baler will really eat some hay! I have a old New Holland 315 and it isn’t even close to being able bale like that. Pretty place where your at, what part of the country are you in?
I have a 5050 and it will eat a windrow of hay out of my uncle's v rake in medium rang 1st gear(2.7mph) and not even think about it spitting out the bales. Just baled 400 in less then 2 hrs.
No it’s not worth your time you can re-rake 5 acres and maybe get 5 bales. Also whatever is left behind will rot and add nutrients back into the soil so it’s not a total loss.
Hello Dennis, your 5060 sure can chew up some hay, I have 570 think there the same baler yours being newer of course. Are your bales consistent in size all the time? Mine gives me long bales sometimes. And are you going to fertilize after first cut? Thanks for sharing this great video Bud👍👍
Yes it’s the same baler. They are mostly the same size. The trick to consistent bales isn’t the baler it’s the windrows and the speed you bale if the windrows get heavy you have to adjust the speed if they get light you have to speed up if there are big wads in your windrows that will cause inconsistencies in bale length worse than anything. Raking with a wheel rake will cause inconsisten bale length because they have a tendency to make wads in the windrows
@@DLHFarms I use a Kuhn single rotary rake, I never tryed the slowing down for the heavier areas or speeding up for the lite. I'll give it a try for sure on my 2nd cut Thanks again Dennis for the tip👍👍
What happens is that it depends on hw much hay goes in that last stoke on each bale right before it ties if it’s a big wad it makes a long bale if it’s barely any it will be shorter that why you have to try to feed consistently all the time makes each flake about the same size in every bale. It’s hard to do but that’s the trick to it

I think it’s a 65 inch pick up head sometimes it’s not quite wide enough for first cutting hay but I get by.

Yep yep and not sure about calling in rain but it just doesn’t dry as fast after you rake so I put it off as long as I can

Yes it does a good job, the accumulator actually helps with bale formation too because of the bales in the chute holding back pressure

I used to be concerned about that but I’ve took it in some steep places without any trouble.
It would be interesting to see how the machine ties the bails.

I run the gage on 1.5 it’s about the middle of the green area and yes the accumulator also adds tension and makes the bales more uniform.
When are you going to start up the cutting up the firewood for this coming year?

It’s. John Deere 6110R and the baler is a New Holland BC5060

They are about 60 pounds I get anywhere from 50 to 100 bales per acre.

Kuhns uses a big rubber belt it works really good

Look on the Kuhns website it also has a pulley system behind the chute the belt rides on when you turn it works great

Wow, that baler will really eat some hay! I have a old New Holland 315 and it isn’t even close to being able bale like that.

I have a 5050 and it will eat a windrow of hay out of my uncle's v rake in medium rang 1st gear(2.7mph) and not even think about it spitting out the bales. Just baled 400 in less then 2 hrs.
I have a 315 also and your right it can’t handle that much hay at once it has a slower plunger speed. I’m in Patrick county Va

With how much balers in general leave on the ground would it not be prudent to do a secondary raking and baling to maximize yields?

No it’s not worth your time you can re-rake 5 acres and maybe get 5 bales. Also whatever is left behind will rot and add nutrients back into the soil so it’s not a total loss.
The John Deere is soooooo much quieter than the whiny, clunky New Holland 👍

Hello Dennis, your 5060 sure can chew up some hay, I have 570 think there the same baler yours being newer of course.
Are your bales consistent in size all the time? Mine gives me long bales sometimes. And are you going to fertilize after first cut?

Yes it’s the same baler. They are mostly the same size. The trick to consistent bales isn’t the baler it’s the windrows and the speed you bale if the windrows get heavy you have to adjust the speed if they get light you have to speed up if there are big wads in your windrows that will cause inconsistencies in bale length worse than anything. Raking with a wheel rake will cause inconsisten bale length because they have a tendency to make wads in the windrows

I use a Kuhn single rotary rake, I never tryed the slowing down for the heavier areas or speeding up for the lite.
I'll give it a try for sure on my 2nd cut

What happens is that it depends on hw much hay goes in that last stoke on each bale right before it ties if it’s a big wad it makes a long bale if it’s barely any it will be shorter that why you have to try to feed consistently all the time makes each flake about the same size in every bale. It’s hard to do but that’s the trick to it

Thanks again Dennis, I'm going to try and work on adjusting my speed like you suggested. It doesn't happen alot but I think your rite sometimes I plow rite threw the heavy hay area's and I need to slow down.

I enjoyed that way too much 😂. Funny you mention wet ground, my mate swears it doesn't ,at ter if the ground is wet, I on the other hand seem to find the hay stays wet! Don't ask me why 😂. I did get rid of the T5 and bought the John Deere that’s in the video
