I never knew how they knew it was full. It was so interesting to see you refill the netting. My daughter has a horse, and I didn't know until she told me that horses need special hays, I guess, in square bales. I am definitely a country girl.

The hay saver will more than pay for itself once you get it figured out and not have to rack the hay twice and wait for it to dry. Some nice looking hay for first cutting. Keep up the great video's
Fine looking bales Dennis. Man I miss the smell of hay while baling it. That is one smell I wouldn't mind year round. Massey Ferguson / Hesston round balers has the easiest (in my opinion) net wrap access & loading system. It is in the tail and you just set a roll in there and feed a bit & you're done. It also has a place for a 2nd roll of net wrap.
I like the net in the front so you can see when it's unrolling and see to make sure it cut. I have a place to carry another roll also but I didn't have one in there.
I think the biggest thing is ... If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It & If It Works, Don't Complain About It Or It WILL Break! ... my dad's old farmer sayings!! I like NH, JD & MF/H balers, but my dad still is partial to Vermeer.
Does Hesston have a rubber net roller like Deere? I know Deere is easier to load in the back but they took one step forward and two steps back by putting a rubber roller on the net to get wrapped up. You always know when you pass a field and there’s a bale with no net sitting in it that it probably came out of a Deere baler. Lol

that last field you bailed looked like a good crop, better than last year when someone else rowed it up for you then you had to spread it out again lol 21 bales of 9 acres = 2.3 bales to the acre, keep up the good work
No, the field with 21 bales was 5 acres, I had baled 45 bales the previous day on 9 acres. The last feild was 29 bales on 6 acres there was another feild I didn't show that was 41 bales on 9 ish acres.
good video, we do say 10 bales to acre and i was using a krone 1250 round pack baler for a neighbour and the netting system was aboustly awful it works but is behind alot of manufactures.Mchale you just put your roll on and pull it out and tie it on to bar and the baler does the rest. Looking forward to see how many sqaure bales you get
I quit running over the edge wraps after spending hours getting net out of the internal rollers bearing area. JD edge to edge is all I run now. Have seen balers burn because of binding on internal roller bearings.
Dang I thought my net system was complex I always thought new Holland’s system was simple! I didn’t know they made 12000 rolls I’m running 14900 there a pain but they last a long time great video bud 👍🏻
A Vermeer 604N Select will solve your moisture meter problems.I purchased one this season and its doing a fine job. Vermeer has come out with a 604R but there still working out the gremlins. The 604N weighs 2000 lbs more than the comparable JD baler,the added weight is in the increased diameter rollers and frame. My a 100 HP PTO CaseIH 5240 and it operates the 604N with no power issues.I don't know if you can mount your spray system on it? Another note not related to the baler, it is Very Important when operation a hydraulic motor on a tractor, that the return line must dump directly back in the reservoir or the pump/hydraulic fluid will overheat. Its fun to watch your videos,and Happy Harvesting.

DLH has a lot of money in equipment,he has square and round bale equipment.I'm just into round bales at this time. I was looking at the 504R when I made the decision to buy the 604N, I wanted the ability to make 4x5 and 4x6 bales and make this purchase that would last many years.I'm glad to hear your 504R is working out for you.
William Brewer it rolls a 1200 pound 5 x 4 compared to my old roller of 800 to 1000 and you can really tell the difference in it the bales actually weigh more then one of my neighbors 5 x 5 baler hay that will stand up and stack good keep better in my opinion I use a barn but it's open on the front and back so longer I can keep hay good the more cows i can feed
I don't know if anyone has answered your question about the moisture meter or not but it could be because the hay is moving faster with the round Bailer vs. the square Bailer, I'm not familiar with farming equipment however
I agree with the square baler sensor staying consistent. I have the AgriTronix version, looks similar to NH. Do you have 2 pads in the round Baler? Is it possible one sensor is bad and it’s confusing itself? Or the monitor is not reading one right? I’m not sure how they work, just thinking it takes the average of the 2 and gives a reading?
DLH Farms l have the same tester on a 560 nh round baler. Same symptoms, and doesn't give "accurate " reading until bale is 1/2 full or more. NH dealer put it in. Like you said, few places to put sensors.
Good to see your getting the crops in, that new barn will be full in no time. I see the finished bales are scattered all over the field. Just wondering if those computer gizmos you have in the cab could programme a baling sequence, so that you cut into a windrow at a certain time to bunch up the dropped bale location. Now back in the old days we hand stacked square bales on a sledge, we drop them off at a previous dropped stack whether we had fully stacked layers or not. This made trailer loading a lot easier and faster. PS: That waffler I spoke about earlier was a hay conditioner, I believed it crushed the hay between rollers to release moister.
Why do you always back up when wrapping and dumping a bale? That New Holland ramp always gets them away from the door. I don't back up, just stop so I don't pick up more hay, just sit with clutch down for a bit, wraps fast. I only back up if I'm on a hill and need to cock it so it doesn't leave me in a hurry to the hollow. I also put the hydraulic header kit on, if I back up I raise the header. Also allows wrapping a bale on the move if I'm not on a wind row. Just wondering.
Yes I've had them get away before. I'm sure anyone that has ever round baled steep land has had more than one get away. Years ago my grandpa lost one and it ran into his own brand new pickup truck.
What is the advantage using round bales vs square bales the big square bales anyways? I know the round balers are usually cheaper but having to stop every time to wrap and unload plus they don't stack as tightly as big squares I'm just curious I think I'd rather shoot myself than bale 200 round bales lol
Round balers are cheaper and require much less horse power. For example a new round baler cost 30,000, a new square baler like OLFs cost 200,000. Second part of the equation is the tractor, you can pull a big round baler with a 100 hp tractor, you can buy a 100 hp tractor for 90,000. A big square baler requires at least 200hp, on my steep feilds I would have to have at least a 300hp tractor to manage the weight of the baler. A 300hp tractor would be about 300,000. Most people that do less than a couple thousand acres can't justify owning such huge investments. I do 100 acres of hay twice a year if I'm lucky I will gross 30,000 in hay sells. If I bought a big square baler and a tractor to run it, it would be like bringing a bazooka to a knife fight and trying to pay for the bazooka with peanuts.
With that crop saver spray system, does it know when you're unloading a bale and cut off by itself, or do you have to cut it off manually? Cause I could see myself forgetting to cut it off when I'm unloading and wasting a bunch of that stuff (and money).
They make a kit that will turn it on and off automatically but it's $500 and I don't have it yet. At $13 a gallon you don't easily forget to turn it off.
Never used a moisture meter but a lot of people forget that the round bale is spinning so the sensors could be on a dry place one second then on a high moisture area the next
Yeah but I just don't think that there is that much fluctuation in the actual moisture in the hay. Baleing in the same windrow at the same elevation you will get anything from Lo which is below 8 percent to over 40 percent. This is on hay that's been tedded twice and dried for 3 days.
What pressure do you run your rollers at? The dealer told me they can be finicky when your running a fair amount of pressure on the bales. That’s why I never got one because I roll them as tight as I can get them. I use the old style corded probe.

No it prevents heating of the bales, the heating and spoilage all goes together. As long as you put the recommended amount for the tons per hour and moisture then they will not heat, you can bale up to 30 percent moisture.
Good looking hay, wish I had a net baler, my old baler don't like real dry hay when it starts spiting it out the front you better slow down or you will be digging it out that's not fun.,

I know but I've had trouble with it not grabbing the net when doing it that way for some reason. It doesn't stay close to the bale long then it goes to a precut position I believe is why.
DLH Farms that’s weird. I haven’t used one of the new balers so I won’t pretend to know. There’s nothing like having a net problem though. I use an old 654 that we bought in bad shape and redone and I guess the net was never used on it so I’m still having to fine tune it.
Pretty bales! Does the preservative kit controller pick up a signal to shut off the pump when the bale is net wrapping, so you’re not spraying liquid when there’s no hay going in?

Maybe the sensor isn't stuck in right, find the operator's manual or repairman's manual and see which sensor carries the load, and give it a look. It's possible that it may have come undone OR, or, that the gate that applies the sensor (the part that comes in to contact if it's a mechanical switch or the part that blocks the path of the switch if it's light switch, like you'd have in a Xerox machine) isn't working right anymore. To me, that's what that behavior would indicate. Kinda like when your car starts throwing empty, full, empty, full, and you find that the petrol level isn't fixed to the pump anymore :)
I've checked all the connections even took them apart cleaned them and used dielectric grease still the same result. The pads are mounted according to the manual.
I just tie a knot in the end of my new roll of wrap. Then I route it in the baler I don't spread it. It spreads out on it's own. Then I just hold wrap button monitor and away we go!
DLH Farms yeah I take about a foot of the new roll and the a knot then I feed that through duck bill so I don't have to mess with trying to feed the whole width of roll through duck bill
I just shove a wad of it through in the middle, not the whole width. I have had it try to stay between the spreader augers that's why I make sure to place the net on top of them.
I already updated the software to the latest version 1.3 and it didn't help in round bale mode. I have the manual, the pads are mounted where suggested.
We live in the northern part of West Virginia not far from Pittsburg, pa. We make same size bales with a Vermeer but our tractors and disc mower and rakes are new holland. My buddy was getting a new Vermeer and we went together and bought two got a great deal.
You may need to use a bale probe to compare real moisture levels to what your meters say. We had that problem and knew our meters were like up to 5% drier than reality.
Yes, thats what my family always ran on the dairy, so that's what I always used also until our local dealer closed, now I have a new dealer that sells NH, but they also sell Massey so I ended up buying a Massey Ferguson 4710 as my latest Tractor.

The guys on that's forum were saying something about a certain type of sensor in their baler being inconsistent. Hopefully you can get it figured out. It has to be confusing and frustrating at times.

Wee bit more complicated than the Deere....We run cover edge......in both 459 silage specials. I think it makes for a neater bale

It is a simple design but not the easiest to reload. Hardly ever have a problem with wrapping the bales.

Why do you back up every time you finish a bale? If im on a hill I back up but if on flat ground there is no need. Do you have a kicker?
I am on a hill everywhere I bale, cameras make land look flat.

Yes it has two pads, they claim it takes readings all the way through the bale from one sensor to the other but I don't believe that.

No there isn't a computer hooked to the square baler or accumulator . Ok my mower has a built in conditioner. It's called a Discbine.

I've always just held down the wrap button after changing net and it wraps automatically. Maybe it's better to do it manually?
I've done it that way but sometimes it won't stay in there long enough to grab the net. If it works for you nothing wrong with doing it that way.
When your running the spray and a bail is done you back up to let the bail out does the spray stop on its own or do you do it manual thanks Napa mike
I turn it off manually, they make an eye that mounts to the baler that will turn it on and off for you but its $500

My problems is i can't lift the roll of net onto the spindle . I like that nh puts net on faster and you can see it go on.
Yeah it's supper heavy. But I like how it works otherwise

Your welcome. Its hard to decide sometimes but certain fields have better hay and arnt as steep and those are the ones I like to square bale.

Hey I know this is a little off subject and I know that shed that blew away in the wind is still a sore spot with you...but..... would you be interested in selling that 3 point finishing mower that was under the shed??
I don't know it belongs to my dad, he don't normally sell anything. If it was mine I'd say come get it.
If you just hold the wrap button it will wrap the bale just like normal after reloading.
I know but I've had trouble with it not grabbing the net when doing it that way for some reason. It doesn't stay close to the bale long then it goes to a precut position I believe is why.
DLH Farms that’s weird. I haven’t used one of the new balers so I won’t pretend to know. There’s nothing like having a net problem though. I use an old 654 that we bought in bad shape and redone and I guess the net was never used on it so I’m still having to fine tune it.

I use the single sensor moisture tester. Mine is fairly consistent. If you are adding spray that might affect your reading.

Pretty bales! Does the preservative kit controller pick up a signal to shut off the pump when the bale is net wrapping, so you’re not spraying liquid when there’s no hay going in?
No that's an option that I don't have, I just turn it off manually, you remember pretty easy when your paying $13 a gallon.

It keeps it from heating and spoiling when the moisture is to high.

Maybe the sensor isn't stuck in right, find the operator's manual or repairman's manual and see which sensor carries the load, and give it a look. It's possible that it may have come undone OR, or, that the gate that applies the sensor (the part that comes in to contact if it's a mechanical switch or the part that blocks the path of the switch if it's light switch, like you'd have in a Xerox machine) isn't working right anymore.
To me, that's what that behavior would indicate. Kinda like when your car starts throwing empty, full, empty, full, and you find that the petrol level isn't fixed to the pump anymore :)
I've checked all the connections even took them apart cleaned them and used dielectric grease still the same result. The pads are mounted according to the manual.
I just tie a knot in the end of my new roll of wrap. Then I route it in the baler I don't spread it. It spreads out on it's own. Then I just hold wrap button monitor and away we go!
Tie a knot in it? How would that work it has to feed through the duck bill on mine.
DLH Farms yeah I take about a foot of the new roll and the a knot then I feed that through duck bill so I don't have to mess with trying to feed the whole width of roll through duck bill
I just shove a wad of it through in the middle, not the whole width. I have had it try to stay between the spreader augers that's why I make sure to place the net on top of them.

I already updated the software to the latest version 1.3 and it didn't help in round bale mode. I have the manual, the pads are mounted where suggested.

Nice looking hay, the net wrap system on a New Holland is the only thing I dislike, the Vermeer we have is a lot more simple!
I've never had any trouble with it and it does a good job wrapping.
I hated my Vermeer wrap system. It was always missing cycles.
Can you contact the supplier of the moisture meters and ask them how you would go about calibrating the units with the sensor pads, just a thought.

4x5, 900 pounds
We live in the northern part of West Virginia not far from Pittsburg, pa. We make same size bales with a Vermeer but our tractors and disc mower and rakes are new holland. My buddy was getting a new Vermeer and we went together and bought two got a great deal.

You may need to use a bale probe to compare real moisture levels to what your meters say. We had that problem and knew our meters were like up to 5% drier than reality.
I've got a probe but wore it out, need to get a new one.

Yes, thats what my family always ran on the dairy, so that's what I always used also until our local dealer closed, now I have a new dealer that sells NH, but they also sell Massey so I ended up buying a Massey Ferguson 4710 as my latest Tractor.
Refilling the net wrap is so much easier on a John Deere and the monitor is by far better than NH
Also, replace the nuts on the bolts with dome heads. That way they won't get caught anymore, the net wrapping i mean.
It's not that big of an issue. Just make sure it's not caught when you fist put it in and your good.
Gonna have to start trusting the baler . All that looking behind you is going to give you neck trouble . Trust me .
Only time I have trouble with the baler is when I don't look at it.

Sounds like you have a loose connection that contacts sometimes
I cleaned them and put dielectric grease on them same problem.

Sounds like I'm not the only one with this problem.
The guys on that's forum were saying something about a certain type of sensor in their baler being inconsistent. Hopefully you can get it figured out. It has to be confusing and frustrating at times.

I had a Rebel 5410, was a good baler for twine only, have a 2013 BR 7060 net/twine now, it will flat eat some hay! I ain't looking back!
