Don't get hung up on the steel. The CV and stainless are very similar performance wise. I have used both and really don't have a preference, I just buy what pattern and covers I like best.
If you wanted just one knife to carry the rest of your life this would be my choice. The CV is easy to sharpen and holds an edge well. Lots of non knife people carry the same trapper their entire life. 👍
I bought mine at bass pro in 2011. It’s in my pocket right now 😆 still snappy! The blades have turned black from use. It gives it character imo.

CV is waaaaaay better than the Case SS. CV is also easier to sharpen.
