So glad you still manage to come up with fresh new content 11 years after the first upload! Taught me everything I know and heres to the next 11 years and beyond! Many thanks for all your enthusiasm and drive Mike, you have changed the lives of 100's if not 1000's of us. Eternally grateful, Your Loyal Students :)
Thank you for your kind words and for sticking around Lee... MIKE :-)
Same here, from all YT videos and channels I simply love honesty in Mikes videos and that he started from small bits and pieces. I learned everything from you Mike!
"But first I want to show you my camera being a complete and utter c*ck" Absolute LEGEND! lol
:-)
I have to tell you, I really started to take my photography seriously once I found your videos way back when. You helped me a great deal, like someone who is right beside me talking to me, not judging etc. Thanks for keeping it real, many others on the internet could learn from your kind, gracious approach. Thank you!
Thank you Crutch456... MIKE
Thanks Mike ." Most important of photography is YOU" What an encouragement to keep learning.
My pleasure! ... MIKE đđ
Great Video! Your videos are always helpful to me as beginner photographer. Thanks Mike!
Ahh Mike, this video should be issued with every camera sold! Direct, to the point and easy to understand, trade mark of your videos. A must watch for those stuck to auto, ps love the bike. Cheers to you & the team.
Thank you Jeff... MIKE :-)
Mike you are one in a million. Best photography teacher I know.
You are awesome Mike, I learn so much from you! Thank you!!
Iâve watched this video a few times now and have recommended to many people. I find it to be the most useful resource to understanding the what light meter actually is telling me and how to select the appropriate exposure settings for the scene and what I want to capture. Plus I like hearing Mike calling his camera names. Thanks Mike!
I like this video, of course. Take Mike's "tips" to heart and you're on your way into your "photography" journey. Again, thank you Mr. Browne.
Mr Browne, you keep dropping sprinkles of gold dust, and I keep picking them up! Your ability to talk fluently about technical matters is second to none. Another masterpiece to assist many people like myself. I admire your teaching style which is clearly true to yourself, enjoy the simplistic way in which you describe these technical matters. As well as learning about photography you have me searching my camera trying to figure out where certain things are (continuous focus v whatever else there is) loved the example at the end of shooting with 200 and the creative effect it had on the image. Again, thank you so much
đ Thank you Brian. Delighted to have helped. Please share the vid around and help me make more like it... Stay well buddy... MIKE đ
I'm more impressed with how well you've kept the weight off! Kudos!
Mr. Browne: I donât quite know the words to say my thanks and gratefulness, your lesson is just amazing. This was a pleasure to watch your video and I got to much information to use. Thanks again Sir
Thanks for the kind comments Daniel
Love your clear reminders of the basics. Those beyond beginner stage know all this but it is so easy to forget to apply the points you make every time shooting!
Excellent guide video. I said icing on the cake. You have already done lots of video related this. This one is like abstract of a research paper, telling important controls of the camera and how to use it effectively. Thanks for your great effort in making this video and allign the concepts in particular order.
Investing in the Ultimate Beginners course was one of the best decisions I made on my photography journey. Cheers Mike.
Thank you Jim. Delighted you enjoyed and got so much out of my UBC course. Take care buddy... MIKE :-)
Seriously best teacher ever
đ , Thank you!
Excellent content Mike I always love your videos.
Have to say Mike, nothing in this video was news to me but I wish there was someone like you 40+ years ago when I was learning it would have been so much easier. Well presented easy to follow good advice. Great tutorial.
Thank you TopSyrm.. MIKE
I really appreciate how you focus (pun intended) on the person behind the camera as the creator, and the camera as the tool.
Thanks Martin. It was ever thus. Did Leonado Da Vincis brushes paint the Mona Lisa? Does the Steinway Grand Piano rate a standing ovation or the person playing it. Photography's no different regardless of the internet rumours and marketing hype.. MIKE :-)
@@MikeBrowne I tell my students the SAME THING!
Once again, a great video tutorial and always a pleasure to watch, for photographers of all abilities...A really direct and concise way of getting the important information across, without being 'preachy' or condescending...it's super easy to watch and get engaged with and one will always pick things up much more quickly as a result...and I think a really important point of this video, when the basics are mastered and you are comfortable with and can control your camera (and the points you mention and to master are obviously the foundation on which to launch forwards and build on as a photographer), is the super-important part of 'you', the individual, in the development and progression of your photography...I see so many people obsessed with the latest kit, accessories, software etc etc, as if this was the golden key to the magic door of photography.."get the latest camera, get the latest gizmo, get the latest upgrade and all will be great."...of course you need the latest upgrades to software like Lightroom and Photoshop etc, if you have it, but don't become gear obsessed and think the really great camera you had a couple of years ago and loved is all of a sudden obsolete and no good, because a sparkly brand new one has just been released, unless you have really deep pockets.
Only yesterday I was looking at various CZcams videos on the new Canon 90D release and was stunned by some of the comments...
In my opinion, learn the absolute essential basics as Mike says, get some decent kit (and it doesn't have to cost a fortune), a decent entry level DSLR, 18-135mm kit lens (or an 18-55), 64MB memory card, tripod, shutter release cable, camera bag and a few other accessories, will get you started!..get out, learn the basics and take photos and practice!
If you are a beginner in photography, follow the basics Mike has laid out here, track down some stuff on basic composition, framing and the importance of light, again, no doubt Mike will have these in his videos and courses, and you will have a nice platform to launch your photography adventure...enjoy and take photos!...practice, practice, practice!!!
Nice job Mike...âŠâŠâŠâŠâŠâŠ.and thankfully, no mind-numbingly inane music in Mike's videos!
Mmmm, Mike's videos concise and to the point and my CZcams comments not..ah well...lol
Your videos are always of value, Mike!
Cool stuff as always. You make things look so simple and in fact they really are simple. There is no bad camera, it's always bad setting.
Mike, thank you, again. I find you videos speak to me more than any other bloggers'. Your down to earth approach is the best of all.
Thank you GWINE... MIKE
Great stuff as always Mike, Thank you :)
Man I've always loved your photography tuturials. You are brilliant. I learnt and still learning so much from you. Thank you so much.
I think the first video I saw of you was the rule of thirds and I still remember it and follow it today! 9 yrs later. Good vid Mike. Your location was actually something I was thinking of asking you to do one day, some nice port photography ;-)
Yet another great informative video, all the important areas covered in less than 20 minutes. Thank you Mike
I love the way you speak, and how you explain things. You make it all make sense and therefore easier to remember. :)
Thank you Kelly... MIKE
Brilliant video mike I never get bored of your tutorials there the best. â€ïž
Mike, I've been enjoying your videos for a couple of years now, and always look forward to seeing new content from you. You have helped me go from snapshots to artistic creations. Thank you and keep it up. I'm sure there are many more that can benefit from your help.
Thank you CubDriver451, delighted to have helped... MIKE :-)
Mike, this is one of the most useful video any photographer could watch. It covers the fundamentals very well and useful for people of all levels.
Clear Precise and Interesting top 5 / 6. Makes a nice change from the usual top 3 most people talk about. Cheers Mike.
Thank you Mike! I have been with you a long time and you never let us down...
Thanks Steve... MIKE
Love you work Mike.
Even now you don't hesitate to teach basis to beginners. I have learnt so much from you Mike. Thanks a lot.
Brilliant video Mike. Very nice explanation of the various controls used. Nice to see Jill getting some props for her fine video work. Cheers.
Thanks Stephen
How refreshing !!! Your enthusiasm for getting the basics sorted is wonderful.
Thank you Toby.. MIKE
Clear, concise and invaluable in formation Mike. I particularly found number 6 âfocal lengthâ of great interest and helped me with my lack of understanding of how creative the compression aspect can be if used correctly.
10:28 - I'll be damned if it is not the best flower photo I've ever seen. Definitely not the usual composition. This is why it's worth to watch Mike's tutorials even if you've been photographing for years and know all the stuff he talks about.
Thank you Artur... MIKE đđ
Take as little or as much info as you like. As always, great information presented in simple to understand language !!! I have enjoyed, and learned so much over the years from you, and your no BS style of teaching. Much appreciated...
Thank you Frank... MIKE
If only all my teachers had been as brilliant as you, I'd have quite some degrees...... I'd still be at school probably. Thanks for keeping that learning curve on the right incline Mike!
đđđ Thank you Thierry... MIKE đ
Fantastic as always and filmed in one of my favourite places!
Yet another Master Class.
This is a great video to begginers and experience as well. Its all about how you control the camera and not the specific model or lens. I have old dslr and once learned those things and how to build a picture properly expose and framed , I'm getting amazing pictures.
Brilliant video! Thank you Sir. So excited to see you creating another tutorial again who hoo.
Following your channel for years now and again a superb lesson. Thanks for your enthusiasm.
Greetings from Austria.
If I need to know how to do something, I always look for your videos because it explains it so well.
I wish I had found your channel years ago. You explain everything so well. Thank you.
Thanks Jan, there's always time to learn more in life!
Awesome vid Mike. Looking forward to more!
As always, another brilliant video. Your building blocks of photography course proves invaluable; the information and practices definitely stick with you. In a world of such fast-paced photography, it's so refreshing to watch how you encourage a slower process of thoughtful photography. Thank you.
Well said and thank you đ€đ»
It's just been about an hour and a few 3 of your videos.. and already your channel is my favourite â€
Great to hear thank you đ
Hi Mike. I just discovered your videos recently and find them so valuable. Your way of explaining these topics is so accessable. Thanks
Good to hear Benny
1:16 that is a very nice example of auto exposure. Makes it clear for anyone.
EXCELLENT DEMONSTRATION!
I always love đ your videos. Thank you so much!!
As always brilliant video and very helpful
Bravo Maestro!! Ottimo lavoro signore. I really appreciate your coverage on Histograms. For some reason I just do not get along with them very well. This truly has been a shot in the arm for me. Also, on a personal note, good job in slimming down. It will certainly add to your longevity. Once again, many thanks for another excellent presentation. Cheers mate. Tony :)
Thank you Tony... MIKE
Great stuff as always Mike, thanks!
Mike is the reasen I spend since 3 years my summer hols in GB.... đđđđđ thank you for your enthusiasm and advices! Great tutor! đđđđ gruss crazzy swiss đđšđ
Absolutely cracking video. Cheers for that.
Ps. love the T'Bird. I've got a 2014 1700cc version.
Great video Mike delivered at the right level for beginner photographers like myself. Thanks.
Good to be reminded that those old classic photographs that we still admire today were taken with very basic cameras 'lacking' most of the controls today's cameras have. Less is more - its not the gear but what you can do with it.
Always appreciative of your tutorials and your knowledge Mike, many thanks as always for sharing them both with us.
Thank you Stephen... MIKE
You're such a superb teacher. Wonderful video. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thank you Cochise. You too... MIKE
Excellent video as always Mike. What a talent you have for making the âpotentially confusingâ simple and understandable. Keep up the great work!
Nice to hear from you Kay! Hope all is well with you
Always something to learn from you, in fact (without you knowing it), you have been my mentor and inspirator since I first discovered your videos. I learned a lot from you!
Remember the first one I saw, it was pt. 1 of the Street photography videos, and since then, I've seen them all several times. Never get boring, so keep on making these kind of videos. Love'em!!
Thank you sterkoder... MIKE
Mike I did see all you CZcams videos and then you behave on the web all around and I believe that I need to say, thanks to you.
I am French Canadian and you are also one of my English teachers.

I looking for newer works of you, thank you very mutch , your a great teacher .
Your fan from Holland
Thank you Gert. Haven't done as many over the last year because time's been spent on other projects. Each of these takes up around 20 hours to complete or I'd do more... MIKE :-)
@@MikeBrowne Thank you Mister Browne for your responding.
Awesome as usual
Another great video Mike, thankyou so much.
Always love your videos mike you really know how to explain the subject well, but in an approachable fun and friendly way. Your videos always inspire me to pick my camera back up and get out there and pratice.
Thank you Claire... MIKE :-)
Oh I love your videos! Just the right amount of education/humor/confidence boosting! Canon shooter that bought an xt2 last summer. Itâs my fave camera â€ïž
You have good taste!
Learned a lot in this one short video, Mike. Excellent. And your final, bonus number 6 was one of the best demonstrations of how the zoom and distance from the subject made those changes that I can ever recall seeing.
I was just about to write exactly the same comment. Could not agree more...
Thanks @oc2phish07. Glad it was helpful...
Thanks @Jack MacDonald
Another great video full of information. Plus you were at my favourite place to visit when I'm on holiday in Dorset, Mudeford Quay. đ
Glad you enjoyed it ... MIKEđđ
Great teaching, Mike! Most valuable indeed - always informative and enjoyable - thanks!
Thank you Jeff. Happy to help. Please share it around. It'll help me make more like it... MIKE đđ
@@MikeBrowne Absolutely - thank you again!
Thanks a lot for this tutorial. Useful and inspirational as always. Much appreciated...
đ
Best teacher on yt!!!! Thanks a lot mr Mike!
Thank you BartĆomiej... MIKE
Great informative video as usual Mike, well done m8.
You are just an amazing teacher! Thanks for all your wonderful videos
Thank you Marco.
Hi Mile, thanks loved the tutorial, it was great value, and very informative.
Brilliant as always Mike! :)
Thanks David... MIKE
Mike your the MAN!!!! Thatâs all I can say lol. enjoy your weekend big Brother!
Great to see an updated video in a lovely location. It reminds me of our holiday last year.
Doing mostly wildlife photography, I don't have much choice but to use manual mode.
Birds don't always sit on a branch with the light on them. Or if they do, there can be a
bright sky behind them. Then the next shot will be on a dark bush in a shadow. It's knowing
how to cope with different conditions, quickly. Mastering the exposure triangle is a must, it
comes with practice. Exposure compensation can be handy, just remember to reset it
afterwards.. I've been caught out a couple of times by forgetting to do that.....
Great video Mike......Alan............ PS, nice bike
Thank Alan. Hope you're keeping well... MIKE
@@MikeBrowne Yes fine here thanks. We had a break in Lincolnshire this year.
great video mike thanks for sharing đđœ
Nice one Mike courses are brill!
Thanks Ken. Glad you like them!... MIKEđđ
Nice and simple. Works for me!
I love what you said Mike at the 7:01 or so mark. What's the point of following the light meter if you're just going to expose for middle grey. Might as well be in auto instead of adjusting the knobs yourself. Also, in all the years that I've been watching you, I don't think I've ever seen you in a tee-shirt! đAnyway, glad to see you're still making amazing content.
Thanks @ The Post Color Blog. Yep T shirt was a 1st... MIKE :-)
As usual another awesome video. Very informative with easy to understand descriptions and not rubbish to pad it out. Great laid back none confronting training is the way to teach. I have forwarded a link to the members of my photography group here in Adelaide Australia. Well done. Please keep it coming. Chris from under down under in Aus.
Hey thanks Chris. If they're interested all these vids are are on my website searchable by category, skill level etc and have additional articles with more info too. Link below if you are... MIKE
