    I can't speak for today, but Crown Royal came in a purple velvety fabric bag, that we would save for a stash bag. It's not a single malt; it's blended.

    Canadian Club and Crown Royal are both Canadian blends. Canadian Club is my favorite whiskey with Crown as a backup. I live in Texas and Canadian Club is not widely available, Crown is. Canadian Club is distilled in Walkerville, Ontario (Windsor) and is located across the river from Detroit. During prohibition of the 20s and 30s, Canadian Club was the most popular whiskey smuggled into the Great Lakes region by the gangsters of the prohibition era, Detroit's Purple Gang and Chicago's Al Capone. Canadian Club also bottled pints that had a curved side that could be easily strapped to a lady's thighs and legs and hidden under their floor-length full-bodied shirts of the era. After all, no U.S. Customs Agent would dare to ask a lady to lift her skirt. True story.

    @OJB Reacts Canadian whisky, regardless of the brand is made from rye as opposed to barley (Scotch and Irish). Crown Royal is a premium brand, but so is Alberta Springs sipping whisky. For quality, Canadian Club is so-so. It's the "Ford / Chevrolet" Variety while Crown Royal / Alberta Springs would be the Bentley version. Also Collingwood is a great brand. Finely aged in oak barrels. I absolutely love Scotch and Irish high quality whiskies, but being Canadian, I have to say rye whisky is my favorite.

  • @David_C_83
    @David_C_83 Před 7 měsíci

    I don't think I've ever had Crown Royal so I can't speak about it. Canadian Club is not my thing, it's definitely not as strong as other spirits so I agree with that guy saying it was smoother. Lot 40 is a favorite of mine, I can understand their expressions, it's very flavorful and it's great to make an old fashioned but I would absolutely not down it all in one go like the other two guys... and Canada is known for rye so it's probably why they had so many of them. One thing I wished they would've had is gin, in particular Quebec has made so many local gins in the recent 5-10 years that it's become a bit of an industry, like microbreweries, but I don't know how many of them are actually exported, they would've had to buy it here and bring it back to Ireland.

    The traditional Canadian Rye is meant to give you a violent kick in the head, after which you feel good because the pain has stopped. Mixture of historic Scottish and Irish distilling traditions aimed at a clientele of lumberjacks and miners. Finnish and Ukrainian immigrants introduced vodka, and a good Alberta vodka can compete with the finest Stolichaya.

      @@asaintpiit'll never happen. It would require a constitutional amendment which would require unanimous consent from every provincial legislature, the house of commons and the senate. Considering that politicians in this country (or any country for that matter) can't even agree on what time it is at any given point, the likelihood of removing the monarchy becomes effectively nil.

    I believe the Crown Royal has had this bottle since the beginning, and I think it is about 200 years old. Crown Royal is probably the best know Whiskey in Canada, Canadian Club follows close behind. The CC is rather popular in the US but for some bloody reason they call it Bourbon which I truly do not understand. The Crystal Skull Vodka is newer I want to say maybe 10 years or so, I only had it once and it was very good for Vodka. I have never seen nor heard of Lot 40 so I have no thoughts for that. For me it is Crown and Coke all the way. I have a 175oz bottle if Canadian Club. They were very popular in the 70s and 80s. The bottle is a family treasure at this point. The Crown Royal comes in a purple bag that is the best little bag for cleaning ones dashboard.😊

    I've tried all of these. I felt since they tried a good sampling of Canadian Whiskey, ( there were others that they could have tried too obviously,) but only one vodka that it was really unfair. Canada has many really good vodka brands. I think they either need to stick to one type, and try them in groups, because obviously if you do vodka, and Whiskey, and rye, and gin even just the top 3 brands you would risk alcohol poisoning.

    at 2:00 the "40% vol" means 40% alcohol by VOlume.
    7:30 - the spice isn't "spicy" necessarily, like cooking spices. The "ingredients" are not always specific so people don't make their own... sort of. So spice in this case is probably a catch all for a number if things that make the flavour. Like KFC's "mix of 11 herbs and spices."
    Those were probably some of the stronger option in Canadian spirits. Not that they are not popular. I think I've heard of all of them but the Skull.
    Side note... some people prefer to "mix" a drink rather than straight up... but... still they do have flavour a reason.

    You are very wrong about there being no King or Queen of Australia. The King is the King of the United Kingdom, but also is King of Australia. This is, in many ways a legal fiction because it is the Goivernor General who is constitutionally able to exercise the power of the Crown, but the Governor General is execising executive power in the name of the Crown. And when the power of the Monarch is being exercised in Australia, as it is very regularly, for example, signing draft bills into law, it is as the King or Queen of Australia. The parliament can only propose a draft bill. It only becomes law when the Governor General signs it.
    Likewise all Australian governments, and Ministers, can be the result of an election, and negotiation within the winning party, but that person must then go to the Governor General, who then appoints the government.
    The Constitution also has provisions such as, when there is an impass between the Lower House and the Upper House over Supply, as happened in 1975, The Governor General, in the name of the Monarch, can sack the government of the day, appoint a caretaker government, and call for elections within three weeks. That exercise of the power of the King or Queen of Australia, as exercised by the Governor General according to the Constitution, happened, and demonstrates the power of the Crown as Monarch of Australia.
    The Monarch, as King or Queen of the UK would have no such power, since Australia is fully independant of Britain. Hence the legal fiction written into the Constitution, and when the King, or Queen of England and the UK.
    I assume that Canad also has the legal fiction of a King or Queen of Canada. It is kind of how constitutional monarchies can only work, when the Crown is also the Monarch of another country.
