Your passion for the base Carrera really comes across. Interesting that a lot of respected motoring journalists likewise consider the base Carrera as the 'pick.' I also agree that the interior ergonomics, leather finishing, and stylish colour add to that special experience. Nice video, thank you.

As a 997.1 owner it’s great to see someone fighting the corner for the m96/m97 engined cars. I find the biggest difference between the two is the type of plastic used in the cabin and the suspension used.
Gen2 has a different type of plastic used in the cabin which does not become as brittle over time. The gen one interiors can creak and rattle. The suspension only has two gyros to detect pasm too, the gen 2 has a third gyro as well as different spring rates.
The character of my x51 3.8 is intoxicating

I agree that the 997.1 has an awful lot going for it. It looks better than the 997.2 (due to the lights), and the engine sounds much better too.
The base Carrera seems somewhat less prone to bore scoring than the 3.8S too, so it is certainly a good buy if you find a good one.
Personally I think PASM is a very nice option to have (and the big brakes etc), so a Hartech rebuilt C2S is still my favourite, but I can see your point.
