Totally agree with Driver. Everyone I knew had hell with that parking garage.
Unless they play MCOC.
I'm pretty sure I gave up on that game because of that level.
@@CelticVictory I passed it when I was 14 years old and so did my buddies in middle school. Too much fortnite made you guys soft
Arz I've never played Fortnite.
Hahahahaha, wtf dude; that is a low blow for sure ?! 😐😮😛😈
That first level in Driver is the mother of all first level cheapshots
still have nightmares about that parking garage...
I got real good at it, but it took far more of my time than it should have.
now I know why I couldn't beat it as a kid.
What do you mean first level, there's more game?
Brain In A Jar that's a myth. the game is only a tutorial
@@braininajar6513 yeah its just most people never get there
Just wanted to say I love your guy's videos!!! Watch Mojo is awesome!!
#1 is entirely accurate. As a dumb kid back in the day, I had no clue what a “slalom” was and I think I figured it out due to sheer luck/trial & error due to the lack of the interwebs. WatchMojo, you hit me deep on that awesome #1 selection ❤️❤️❤️
I remember the Simpsons game it was so frustrating as a kid
James Emsley so true! I never even finished that first level!
Clay Shinn
Me neither. It sure didn't help that the old Game Genie codes I dug up for it did nothing.
James Emsley it wasn't really all that good anyway.
Clay Shinn I have owned the game for about 20 years......I beat the game for the 1st time 5 years ago. The museum level is a nightmare.
Joshua Krupp lol! Sounds brutal. It's very true that the difficulty of the games back in the day were insane. Ninja Gaiden, Ghost n Goblins, Rygar, Mike Tyson in Punch out, lol! The list is quite long. Congrats to you my friend. I just couldn't do it!
The tutorial from Cuphead.
saw title of this vid and just wanted to see this comment
This is so true
Ah, a thinkalike
Is this game out yet?!?
Romedog Gaming yes it is. And it's good. Damn good.
How is super ghouls n ghost not on here? That games first level was beyond frustrating!
featuremarkstudios so true
Because the creator of the video has no actual interest in videogames, hence the ads.
How am I supposed to know what a slalom is at 8 years old Driver!! Free driving was all I ever got to do.
I remember renting Driver from
Blockbuster on a Friday night and telling my mom. She could take it back with her movie rentals the next day.
I followed the same ritual as a teen. My parents would allow me to rent a game from blockbuster after school on Fridays. Sometimes the game I picked would be a flat out disappointment. Then realizing shortly after that I was stuck with it for the entire weekend.
Driver was one of them.
miss games like these that actually made you use your brain :(
How can you miss Back to the Future Part III for Sega Genesis? This game was featured on one of the AVGN episode where he explains how brutally unfair the game starts off. On the first level the Doc is on horse back and the obstacles come very fast and frequently; faster than most people can react.
It's as if the developers looked at the Turbo Tunnel in Battletoads, and were like, "What if we just start players off with that?"
So glad you had Super Star Wars in this list; that was the first game that came to my mind.
I remember that Driver tutorial !! I always thought I was just terrible at the game >:(
Joel Atkinson same as... i gave up on it after nearly throwing the controller at the tv and cursing the idiots that made it.
Forgot about the rage until i saw this.
I hated it too right until I found the most useful thing ever: information on how to perform the maneuvers inside the booklet that came with the game. It helped a lot.
same here haha
@War Zone I wish I was half as cool as you think you are.
No, war zone, you just suck as a person. This was not an easy level.
Where the hell is ghosts and goblins?
PsilocybinNinja where is king dice 🎲 section of mini bosses in cuphead
Zoe Lindwall where is ninja gaiden
Those damn red devils!
@@zoelindwall637 First levels only.
@@sheriffaboubakar9720 ninja Gaiden's first level is almost impossible to lose. It has generous power ups and Barbarian is a slow, predictable boss. It ramps up in the 2nd and 3rd level but the beginning is pretty basic.
I love watching these then after seeing who beat the levels on youtube. There's always a youtuber that can do the impossible
It took me and my cousin half the summer to beat that Driver tutorial. After that it was smooth sailing. That reverse 180 hung us up for a long time. Interestingly, the same technique can be used in nearly every Driver-esque game since then (i.e. GTA).
I remember being super young in Puerto Rico, having never heard about Driver, when a classmate at school traded me a new game he had. The game was Driver.
He hated the game and told me would trade me any other game for it. I cant remember which crappy game I gave him for it. I think it was some crappy Nascar game. My guess is that he couldnt get past the parking lot. I mean the game was super fun once you got out of the parking lot, and cant imagine him disliking the game as much as he did.
Another memory I have from Driver was playing in Downtown Miami, and my sister asking me where was I playing, and I responded "Downtown" and she said "But Downtown where" and I said "The city is named Downtown" and then she taught me that downtown is just a part of each city, and not a city itself. Because the way the game menu was set in Driver, I had thought that Downtown was a specific city in the US.
The tutorial on driver was fucked up
J Money maybe I'll give ya a call if I ever need a ride to the grocery store
I never beat that as a kid. I still have not but I have beaten the rest of the game. I used a emulator with cheats for the tutorial.
try playing it on windows ME for extra difficulty
It took me a couple tries but I didn't really have a problem with it when I was a kid
I remember it but I don’t remember it being that hard. It was too hard for a tutorial though.
Can remember the Simpsons game it was hard to master..... nice video :)
Haha Driver man I remember doing that first mission tutorial many times. But after a while I got an understanding of it. It also help that I got a wheel for it on pc. A lot harder on PS1. I ended up perfecting it every time.
The first gym in Pokemon yellow is easy enough to beat with a plant or fighting pokemon, but it doesn't help that you start with the worst possible option.
Just train butterfree to lv.12..brock is a push over
When I was a kid I couldn't pass the driver tutorial because I didn't know what the hell slalom meant.
Yeah same here! I need to play it now that i know see if i can do it.
Did you not have a dictionary?
Bob3D2000 stupid ass question
Perfectly legitimate question. "I don't know what this word means. If there was only some manual for words like I have for all these video games."
Wow I totally forgot about the Driver tutorial! Such a great game!
I loved the Simpsons game. I dont remember it being soo difficult tho. Maybe cos I'm now 38 n cant remember that far back. And I never got passed the tutorial on Driver 😂 great upload
The first level of back to the future part 3 on sega genesis is a hard one.
Albert Ramos that should of been number 1
It's harder than most of the ones on this list
I only watched the video to see if this game was going to appear. Truly grueling level, 'jump, shoot, duck, jump, jump. duck, face back and shoot... get wiped out... die some more inside... repeat'.
Yes! If you don’t play with excessive pausing and save states it’s practically impossible.
@@dawesomeness5538 I've only seen one person ever actually beat that stage without doing that, and they said that came from LOTS of trial and error before that.
Dean Takahashi would take issue with this list.
WHEN I WAS PLAYED CAT MARIO FIRST LEVEL!!!! FUCK OFF!!!!
4:03 I rented Bart vs the space mutants in ‘92. Couldn’t beat the 1st level, gave it back a day later.
From what I saw, the first level of Back to the Future 3 on Genesis was a really rough one
OMG!!!! Back when batman forever came out, WE NEVER GOT PAST THAT STAGE!!!!
We never knew what to do!!!
I rented that shit from the store and never got past the first level.
Last time I rented it lol.
Luckily you missed a pretty bad game. In fact Batman Forever and Superman 64 are probably the worst comic book based games of the of the 16 bit and early 64 bit generation of consoles.
I always got stuck in Lego Star Wars racing mission and that mission when your in the Jedi temple trying to jump up those timed platforms. 😡
Dot
Those get annoying.
I tried explaining how to get through that section on Super Return Of The Jedi, but my sister's son wouldn't listen.
Yes! I hated that racing mission on ps2! When I completed the horrific first part of the race,I thought I was done only for them to bring an even harder part in. I never completed it.
*you're
And the LEGO Star Wars games were fantastic (and not that difficult if we're being honest).
The thing with the Batman game reminds me of the BS with Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero (it also looks a lot like it too). It had a very similar segment that required a button combination that was in no way explained, hinted at, or required or used anywhere else in the game to get through.
Back in the day we actually got to the second level of Bart VS the space mutants, It's in a mall and is also extremely difficult.
No wave ocean from Sonic 06?! Every newcomer for that game will struggle with the awkward platforming and the infamous mach speed section with glitches just waiting for them!
Did you just say that Electric types are weak to Rock types?
Yes Batman Forever and Return of the Jedi! I loved those games
Fairplay from the first Mafia, it was the first racing mission and it was nuts
*Maybe I'll give you a call when I need a ride to the grocery store.*
Ground types.
Electric Pokemon are ineffective against Ground types.
Josh Spicer they could also pick up a nidoran and use double kick but whatever
Eric Benning Or work for that Butterfree's Psybeam.
By far not the hardest thing on that could be on that list
Indeed. I think the point was that if you use ONLY Pikachu than it's hard, but only a maroon WOULD use only Pikachu.
Josh Spicer Or a total noob. I was that noob when the game first came out. 20 years later, I catch a Nidoran before taking him on.
I made it to Krusty Land in the Simpsons game when I was a kid, I recently bought this game again and can't get passed the mall (level 2) that game is sooooo tough!
I'm so happy driver made this list !!
Where is Back to the Future 3 on Genesis? I actually was expecting that one. Oh well.
That really should have been included. For shame...
Dragons lair logic
Have a bat hit him he doesn't hurt him at all
Have a Dragon shoot him in the toe instantly turn to bones
But some people have different skin strength and varys in dels
bad programming at it's finest...
Also Dragon's Lair's logic:
Walk into a door and he collapses into bones.
I never realised that Bart vs the space mutants was such a hard game when I was little. I thought I just sucked at it...
OMG I recall that batman forever level I remember when I figured it out my brain was reliving the frustrating memories and before you said use the grapnel gun I remembered playing that game but I never beat it I was very young and I remember getting really far but failing
Today Kids Will Never Know The Actual Struggle Of Video Games
Skylanders, Also known as incredibly easy video game franchise.
New School Ranker 1 word contra
I beat ninja gaiden on NES as a kid, one of my proudest gaming moments lol
New School Ranker old head
Too many cheats & glitches and youtube
Pewder city gym was easy af when you just catch some pokemon lol
But.... God was that Simpsons game rough as a kid.. I wanna try it again lol
Back to the future 3 on the megadrive. Still have nightmares about that to this day!
The parking lot in Driver reminds me of Rocketeer for the SNES. The first level is a race against other planes and you have to make the tightest turns around the poles in order to keep up with the planes. And you need to place first to continue. I never got to beat that in the three days I rented the game.
That landspeeder part in Super Return of the Jedi is incredibly easy, and shouldn't have been on the list. The first level in Super Empire Strikes Back was far tougher.
Super TESB was on the whole much harder than Super ROTJ
Completely agree! Was stumped to see it on the list.
Agree, why the fuck is this on the list?
The game is harder, but the first level is pretty easy. A simple mountain climb with falling snowballs to reach the Taun-Taun. It's only hard if you're playing on Jedi difficulty.
agreed
The Simpson's game had me cussing at a very early age fuuucking difficult
Level 1 was pretty tough having to figure a few things out. Then came level 2 and hooooly shiiit... 😾🔫
I honestly don't think I ever made it to the second lvl that shit was fucking difficult lol
My friend had it on the PC, we used to play over and over again but only got to the second level a handful of times. The best part was making those prank calls to Moe, we loved doing that even though at the time it wasn't on UK tv so we didn't get the reference.
Still haven't beaten it LMFAO
Chronic Slayer how old are you when that shit happens?
Idea for next video! top 10 watchmojo's top 10 lists of top 10.
The Angry Game Nerd covered Superman 64 & its one of his greatest videos. I was intrigued when I saw the cover, but never got around to picking it up. I'm glad I missed out because her said there were more rings after ther other levels.
Brock wasn't that hard just get a nidarino it learns double kick at level 12
I just beat him with Mankey and Low Kick attack.
I went a more obscure route. Butterfree and Confusion.
Pidgy with wing attack at level 11
I guess a good deal of the "challenge" was that at the time, unless you were coming straight from the Red/Blue versión, you would have no idea on what moves pokemon would learn even if you knew how "effectiveness" workd, and there's also the "location" changes that were bound to trip you up if you came from a previous version: Mankey originally wasn't on Route 22 and the Nidorans didn't learn Double Kick until lv 43
Which makes it more easier, no matter the level. Super effective always works at gym leaders early stages!
The Driver parking lot tutorial is to this day the coolest tutorial ever in a driving game especially if you could combo everything together. I can't wrap my head around why people found it hard.
MrKhushrenada thank you!!!! i thought i was alone lol me and my best friend played for hours jumping off a bridge sending cop cars flying or our own car. it wasnt until i moved further away that i borrowed it and actually beat the game lol still more fun with my bud glitching the game in the first level lol
MrKhushrenada Doing the test was fine but they could've given more time, I always ran out of time.
My guess is that no one knows what the to do list meant.
I got the driver tutorial yesterday finished!
After 20 years!
Wow! I actually owned that Simpsons game as a kid! It's awesome to see it on here. Funny thing is, I just accepted that it was hard as hell. I rarely made it to level two. I think the second level was like an alien factory or something. My older girl cousin figured most of it out and then we just routinely sprayed everything purple and bounced on bins and so on
AVGN influenced this list?🤔
JohnsonD64
That was my 1st thought. All they did was watch AVGN videos and make a list.
Is it just me or have I seen this same video on watch mojo a couple months ago
You're right Andrew I was thinking the same thing. The Driver Parking tutorial has been the #1 in at least 2 other videos similar to this one.
They had a similar video 2 months ago... But changing a few words in the title equals different content, WatchMojo logic.
猛男 "no there don't" lol
This is for hardest first levels, though. Next month, they'll have one for hardest second levels.
I think the other video had to do with tutorials.
I really love the Batman: Forever style. Something about "realistic" looking sprites, I just thought it looked great then, and now.
Yeah that first gym battle in yellow version was a pain it the ass!
Drive is the bane of my existence
The movie? The adaptation of the game? or the Kamen Rider?
where did you learn to fly?!!!??!!?
where did you learn to fly??????!!?!
WHERE DID YOU LEARN TO FLY?!?!?!?!?!??????!!?!
Having finished two of the games of this list with no cheats whatsoever back in the day - Terminator on the Genesis and Bart vs Space Mutants on the NES, it makes me feel like some sort of vídeo game hero, LOL!
The first level of The Simpsons didn't require you to do all the stuff, so the most cryptic tasks could easily be skipped. Not an easy level for sure, but plenty to discover, and thus works as a pretty nice introduction to the game and it somewhat twisted control mechanism.
Teens from teens react: Glass Joe!
The tutorials of Sonic and the Secret Rings?
Doctor Awesomeness You SERIOUSLY think those were hard? You must not be a gamer
Amy Lee I have played video games since I was 2 years old and I know what's easy or hard.
First time playing Minecraft for me...
Also Pokemon's first gym was basically supposed to teach you about how type combinations were done and also that enemies would get harder as time went on so if you were trying to speedrun you would get stopped dead in your tracks, that was the only challenge factor. Yellow also had two of the wild pokemon that could easily take down Brock's rock type. Mankey and Caterpie evolved into Butterfree.
I remember the first level of Driver. I rented it from Blockbuster and spent the entire evening trying to get past the Garage stage. I later bought the game and beat the full game and it was worth it!
Loaded from Playstation had a really hard first level
SplatdowProduction real OGs know about that game
once you played it, you wont really forget it
I never made it across that gap in the simpsons game... never!
Which one? The mall? The tar pits? Which gap?
At one point (not sure I still have it) but I used to have Dragon’s Lair for the original Gameboy
I've never finish that simpson and batman forever game, so sick !!
I played the majority of these games. I must be a gamer.
or Old. Either way welcome to the club.
The real Dragon's Lair was harder
Ive played all these games i must be old lmao😂😂😟
WatchMojo, I'm sorry, but while I love your vids, I have to say that when you said Electric type Pokémon were weak to Rock Types at 4:59 (not the exact moment, sorry), I was a little triggered...electric types are actually weak to GROUND types. I know I'm nitpicking, but I have to stress that! Electric types have a neutral matchup against the rock types and it's the fact that the Pewter gym has Geodude and Onix bring a dual Rock/Ground typing that makes it difficult
Nerd alert.
Oh my... Driver parking lot was buried away in my memory of a kid playing it on the ps1, and just seeing that quick list of stuff you had to do I remember thinking just wtf is going on, this is insane! It was actually a good game once you got past this, and I remember I had to do the parking lot part for a friend just so he could see the rest of the game. Imagine if they put something like that in the new GTA! Me personally I would find it funny :)
Unfortunately never played Demon but just the tutorial of DS1 was murder. Definitely didn’t see it coming after playing western RPG’s for years. But it was also beautiful, and finely crafted murder that’s made me better at every game I’ve played sense.
I could never go back to button mashing.
4:54 electric types are weak against rock types.
Seems like Watchmojo never passed the Pokémon league Admission Exam.
Elder Scrolls: Arena's first "level" is fucked up man!
The first level of "Driver" was hard for me until the day that I found information on how to perform the maneuvers inside the booklet that came with the game. Now, I can beat the first mission with ease.
Had that Simpson's game and ended up just despising it because of that first level! Pretty sure it took a backseat and was forgotten about when it got replaced by something or other...lol
“Electric types are weak to rock types” wow watch mojo has done their research again! Clap clap!
@@IslanderIsaac well no shit
Well they are talking about Gen 1, and back then electric-types were advertised as being weak against rock as well. Probably because the most iconic rock-types back then were also part ground.
No Ninja Gaiden games?
Ninja Gaiden games get hard towards the end, not the beginning. Like the last few levels of Ninja Gaiden 1 on NES...
The Ninja Gaiden game for the Xbox back around 2003 or 2004 started off hard.
Jonathan BarSela Agreed. The first levels of the classic trilogy are very easy to pass
I feel like specifying is important, because it seems that when Ninja Gaiden is mentioned, people usually tend to assume the NES trilogy, and as said, the first levels in all of those are as misleadingly easy to the upcoming challenge as the first level in Battletoads.
Omg finally someone mentioned Pokemon Yellow. I was stuck on Brock for over a year as a kid until I discovered double kick.
looool, i had the driver game as a kid! i never knew there was another level beyond that! hahahaha
Ahem, ahem. Cuphead?
+Danny Dircio yes
Max Landia Company Of Gaming easy
Not really. Cuphead's gameplay is smooth and responsive, whereas alot of these games have poor controls or either fail at explaining things. Just my opinion, though.
>missing the joke
I've heard Cuphead manages old school difficulty without ever resorting to bullshit. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Really? The speeder level from Return of the Jedi?? I had that game as a kid and that level is embarrassingly easy. Why is it on this list.
Have to agree with this comment.
The sandcrawler level on the first one man. Omg
I remember going to Demon's Souls after Dark Souls and finishing Boletarian Palace without dying, I felt like king of castle.
I’m glad to see batman forever on here. I definitely remember being frustrated because I had no clue how to get past the first level.
Why DID i always think that you have 15k subs...
Unknown Bro dude is 15 Million Subscribers
猛男 you're*
Anyone else struggle with the water temple on Zelda?
Successful Minds I had see a video walkthrough. That level is confusing and big!
Successful Minds sub to me for shoutor
Successful Minds 1st level??
Successful Minds rly,
Successful Minds
Who hasn't???
Back to the Future III on Genesis, 'nuff said.
Pewter Gym was a walk in the park on Yellow too. All you do is catch a Mankey, which learns Low Kick at level 9. Geodude and Onix go down in one shot to it.
You forget GTA Vice City the one with the small helicopter
Not a first level
The Speeder in Tatooine is NOT hard! Even at first can beat this.
Well that's how you experienced it, others have found it difficult
Others found it difficult maybe but it shouldn't be anywhere near this list.
oh I have totally forgot about that Driver torturial level. That was annoying!! I totally agree with it being no. 1!
I played bart vs space mutants a million times as a kid. Never got past the first level lol. Years later I hooked up the ole tendo and with the help of the internet I was able to at least get to level 2. This game is ridiculously hard
Pewter Gyms still isn't even that hard in Yellow...it's called a Mankey ffs, you can catch one by Viridian City. Fighting is super effective against rock....
You'd still have to know that a Mankey is there and can learn that move. If you're new to Pokemon and Yellow is your first game that is one hell of a barrier to get past.
Fighting is the type, not a move...but yeah< not everyone new to Yellow would know to take the path to the Pokemon League briefly when first reaching Viridian City and seeking a Mankey there to subsequently train up to learn a fighting move or 2
I also recommend Butterfree, which learns Confusion at level 12. No type advantage, but you can overlevel it and just brute force your way through. Just gotta be careful of actual Rock moves.
Shrimp Bisque as a kid I remember reading one of those game guides for Pokémon yellow, and it recommend a Butterfree
I think people are also forgetting about the level 100 Nidoking glitch as well. Because remember... Ground is super effective against rock.
One question: Where's Cuphead?
El Manoncio try Super C or Castlevania
not applicable? its hardest first levels, the vegtable patch and the blue...goo ball thing are pretty easy.
What Driver training was easy, the game was so good too!
I dint know year DEMONS SOULS came out, but it looks great, even today!! 👍
