this guy is an accurate portrayal of people going to a concert in 1973 not realizing that Lynyrd Skynyrd was about to drop the illest guitar solo of all time

Free Bird is one of those songs that when you’re driving and it comes on you don’t get out of your car until it’s over.
And you find urself doing a buck down back roads
@@corrinnegarfield2460 I don't think that's what you meant to say!?
You're God damned right!
I can confirm this to be 100 percent true from personal experiences
Hell yeah. I'll do a few laps around my neighborhood if I have to.
10:42 when he been shredding for 5 minutes straight and finally gets to the REAL solo😂😂
I literally saw your comment and blew right through, just to get this moment…,,.,best comment in the section! 😂🎉😅❤ Kudos!
Great comment.
All time best.

That part is like the core of a supernova. Sheer, beautiful musical intensity at the upper limit of the human emotional range.

Greatest, purest, most honest reaction to Freebird of all time. Thank you NoLifeShaq, thank you.
I agree, but he needed a lighter.

My 4 yr old girl heard this and asked me what kind of music it was. I said why? She said "Because it makes me feel good inside of me". I thought it the greatest description ive ever heard.
She's 1000% right
Tell her Soul music baby girl🤣🤣
Seen this comment it made me shed a manly tear because a child told her parent that this song made her feel something it's a emotional song of rememberance it made me smile
same darling, same
10000% correct, everytime I hear this song the hairs on my arms stand up and I get shivers from my scalp all the way down my spine. Dare I say that this song is better than bohemian rhapsody
That transition midway from a ballad to a high energy guitar instrumental is one of the greatest moments in rock history.
Absolutely correct
The best part is. This guy gave southern rock a chance. And you can see he doesn't hear it. He FEELS it. Bless his heart
Yes. A really open mind from someone who loves music, especially when he said that the opening instrumental was talking to us, speaking words to us. Really interesting way to listen.
"First time hearing Freebird" lol yeah okay bud
@@LumpyAdams I believe it. Most black people only listen to rap.

@@omarsabir1210 Nevermind the abundant racism behind your comment lol, but just because someone only listens to one genre doesn't mean they don't know what the most popular rock song of all time is. It's obviously a sham like the majority of these "first time" reactors.

@@viperinvestor325 fucking eh man
What this dude is doing is more important than we know. Our differences are just skin deep.
This is how you end racism fr.
Seriously…
There are a couple of other reactors to this song, who are black, and they were looking at the San Francisco concert, where the promoters put up a big Confederate flag backdrop behind the band. Not one of the reactors mentioned the flag, only focusing on the great music and the crowd. In the comment section, there were lots of comments about the flag, what it meant to each person. Many said it was a classic 1960 sign of rebelling against conformity, or that it meant Southern culture, not racism. And Neil Young apologized to the band for implying they were racist in his song "Southern Man," replied to in "Sweet Home Alabama." Lots of posters thanked the reactor a lot, saying that music is one of the best ways to unite people. I just found Sabaton, and they are doing that too, having people learn about different countries' histories and individual feats of bravery. If Covid hadn't come along, I would not have been homebound and bored, and getting onto CZcams. Music had drifted away from my life, but now it's back! Happy New Year to all of us!
It’s always been interesting to me that blues and country/southern rock are mirror images of one another. Both genres focus on great storytelling about love, and the struggles of blue collar working class Americans. It’s just sad that their fan bases are often at odds because there are way more similarities, both tend to be fairly conservative, and quite religious. It’s a powerful demographic that could wield serious power if they ever got together.
@@kikivon3501 Awesome analysis, to consider the groups and possible demographic power. Someone should inform them.
I am 60 years old and this is the funniest shit I have ever seen. Grew up on Lynyrd Skynyrd. I have got to hang with this guy
Right???!!!!! Meeeeee tooooo!!!
DITTO. I love this kid.
Skynyrd, a joint and headphones is all you need to get back to the 70's

Yep, I'm a millennial, but grew up on classic rock - love when Shaq reacts to this stuff.
This guy: Pauses free bird solo
God: So you have chosen death
You don't pause in the middle of the solo! That should be a sin!
Devil's Rejects: NUTCRACKER
He gets a pass; dude has to breathe.
LMFAO
He gets a pass, he has to pause every so often to avoid copyright
The backstory to the guitar solo is truly an added effect in to how legendary it is 🤣
Guitar player kept skipping recording to party, they said “turn up to this session or you’re out of the band”
He turned up, still drunk, on god knows what drugs, and straight up let out this fire
That sounds fucking legendary 😭
@@NationalEligraphicExcept it's not true.
I have played guitar for decades. Considered the best anyone personally has ever seen and I still might contend Skynyrd guitarist as possibly the sneaky best of all time. Like it's honestly nuts.
@@frankmarsh1159what's the truth?
@@beastgalaxygaming9402 The band were all staying in a motel 350 miles away from home. It's highly unlikely that anyone of them would be off partying in a strange town by themselves. Ronnie ran that band like a tight ship and this was their first album. You can bet he got everyone to the studio ontime and in shape. Plus that solo was composed by Allen. It wasn't improvised. He always played it exactly the same way. In fact he double tracked it in the studio. If you listen close you can hear it.
Best part is calling the band, Lynyrd! Like it’s one guy’s first name. Such a priceless reaction
Apparently, they named it after their teacher, Leonard Skinner.
@@aspirerms8280 He couldn't stand their long hair!

Not my favorite Skynyrd tune but you're right. So many of us picked up guitars because of THIS.
Do you play guitar?
“This song is like pushing a shopping cart up a large hill, and than jumping in the cart and riding down the other side”

Wow you got it the best discription yet
You must be real smart
No Life Shaq is the only one I can forgive for stopping this guitar solo because his reaction and commentary adds to the experience.
AGREE!
Free Bird was our class song for the class of 2022, nearly 50 years after this song came out! Ageless song man.
Fun fact: The original recording of Free Bird was 20 minutes long, just because the band kept playing. No sheet music. Just playing off of the instruments.
jammin
True story: They had to go for a fadeout because the band wouldnt stop soloing. They are still in the same studio to this day playing that solo.
The real kicker is once the solo really starts going, a second guitarist comes in and plays slightly delayed off the lead guitar and tuned slightly different, which is what creates that unique sound of the rising solo - when in reality, it becomes a duet played like two solos. Then the bassist comes in, and adds their own "solo" to the duet and it becomes a stringed trio - and takes on the Mozart or Beethoven style of chamber music of three stringed instruments soloing in unison creating off shoot melodies that turn into harmonies and collapse back into themselves. And then the rhythm guitar enters the frey and BAM a quartet of soloists, a stringed quartet Two Violins (Lead guitars) a Viola (Rhythm Guitar) and a Chello (Bass). The structure of the "solo" is very classical; and so is the execution. It even moves through the eras of common practice music from Baroque (Bach) to Classical (Mozart) to Romantic (Beethoven). Overall it's a composition that, if played by a string quartet would pass as Mozart to the untrained ear.
After the first chorus, I was like "I Literally can't wait to see how this guy reacts to the tempo change/guitar solo", so I skipped ahead. Awesome. This is sooooooo worth watching!!!
Jean-Luc Asymptotic that is beautiful... what do you do professionally? Something music related?
The fadeout represents the bird literally flying away...free
Please listen to that smell by skynyrd
Was anyone else on the edge of their seat waiting for Shaq's reaction to the main solo kicking in? Lol.
Yes!!!!!
Yep, lol
LOL at the ending.. salute
especially after he said you could tell how the song was going to go after the opening
I was. When he started dancing in his seat I was too...flappin my arms like a bird! Wooo hooo!!!!
The 14 minute live version is even better. There's a sick piano solo and extended guitar solo. Literally just 7 minutes of straight murdering the guitar.

One More from the Road is a live album by Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd, capturing three shows recorded in July 1976 at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia. Since 1974 Lynyrd Skynyrd had supported rock promoter Alex Cooley so that the theatre could be saved from demolition. The best shows 3 consecutive nights in ATL in 1976. I went all 3 nights. I swear Skynyrd is the only band where you say there's a solo in a solo and it makes sense
I agree and their track that smell is the same two solos in one track.
Back in the days where guitar solos are longer than the song.
Same thing with Boston
It’s interesting if you watch the new documentary on them on Netflix, they comment that they played the song to give Ronnies voice a break. Then joked the solo went from 3 minutes, to 6 minutes, then we threw one in at the end of the song. 😂😂
On Moses !! Three guitarist going HAM !!

Its literally one of the greatest songs ever regardless of genre. True masterpiece. R.I.P. to a legend.
This video is undoing years of musical culture separation. My roommate is from Barbados and very dark skinned and when we first became friends he’d always say things like “skip those southern whiteboy songs”. Though Ill admit I always liked the island vibed music he was brought up on and played. It was an awesome feeling to hear him show the same interest when he heard me blasting this song cleaning my room. The question “Ayo bro who’s this by , this go harrrd” changed his playlist spectrum forever.
“Black or white, through music our souls unites” -BB
Your comment is so good, about this video undoing years of musical cultural separation. People just want to listen to good music and talk it about it. This reactor has managed to create a great discussion and good feelings.
AMEN TO THAT!!!
or as MJ said it in one of his songs "I said if you're thinkin' of being my brother
It don't matter if you're black or white"
For a guy who didn't grow up listening to this kind of music you've got an open mind. I hope your life has been changed by opening such a door.

i saw this title and knew from only seeing his chris stapleton reaction video that he would actually appreciate the talent of Allen Collins.
It's like remembering the first time WE heard it for ourselves, THEN got to turn our friends onto it and watch their reaction for the first time!! Some serious joy in that process! I remember when I heard Aerosmith for the first time, then moved out west. Nobody ever heard them, and I got to be the first one to play their music for them. Then they hit on the radio about 3 months later. I love showing people new music and watching them fall in love with it!!

free bird is undoubtedly like an out of body experience ... but for me, gimme three steps is my favorite song by lynyrd skynyrd ... its such a fun song that always puts me in a good mood
Listening to freebird + runner's high takes that out of body experience and makes you feel like you're watching yourself go 100 miles an hour. In the 70s I watched this band play at an expensive college--I had come from my college to see the band they were opening for--and the crowd was prepared to look down on this southern rock band, but they couldn't hold out for long against their obvious greatness! I was told later some thought my friend and I were groupies because we instantly thought this band was fantastic and were applauding when others weren't. By this song, the audience couldn't deny it! The headliners, The Stories, were a real letdown, even though they were talented, and before long the unknown, exciting opening act was famous!

Sir, I have been listening to this song since the mid 1970's, it is one my all time favorite songs and I have analyzed and over-analyzed every note, beat, lick, riff, and line. In 40+ years of listening to this song, I have NEVER thought of it as a "break-up song". UNTIL NOW! I love your perspective on this classic song, and your interpretation is refreshing. To paraphrase a friend, music is THE universal language, and everyone brings to it their own perspectives and life experiences. Maybe, just maybe if we all talked more about music, and actually listened to each other, we might find out we have more in common as a society than we think. Music has it's roots in primitive humans and has evolved as we have, in a very diverse and sometimes unique way.
I'm new to your channel, but am now a Subscriber.
Thank you for reminding me that there are more ways to listen to something that I have heard nearly all my life.

@@barlock1000 even tho I guess you were technically working imagine telling yourself as a kid you’d be with your mates absolutely gunning a helicopter about listening to Free Bird. Badass moment there. Did you ever do it to Back in Black as well🤌🏼
You know what kinda bird don't fly?
The solo is Allen Collins, tall skinny dude in the back. This was his first take, after a couple of others they realized you can't beat perfection. They couldn't read music, couldn't tell you what key they're in. Just went by feel.
Amen
Played by smell.
No. Nope. Nooo. It was Allen AND Gary. There’s more than one guitar here.
Yep, Gary Rossington too.
Very cool. I didn’t know that.
It’s 2 guitarists, Gary Rossington and Allen Collins, in a godly harmony that us mere mortals have been blessed with. A legendary band for sure. This song actually is what got them signed. They were so poor none of them had shoes and they’d collect bottles to pay for their guitar strings. They were playing in some small bar that a producer happened to stop in to and he invited them to the studio that night
It's 3 guitarists. You forgot about the Bass. .
@@dsilverleaf4668 I meant 2 leads but you’re right
It was recorded with 2 guitars and a bass, but off and on they did have 3 guitars during the 70's and throughout their career 1977 Oakland coliseum footage is a great example of 3 dudes on guitars just shredding for 7 mins
@@DS-182Allen collins does the solos by himself. Gary was rhythm and slide only.
Oldie but a damn goodie. And Shaq’s reaction speaks volumes. Lynyrd Skynrd were way ahead of their time. Freebird is frequently called out as a joke…but truth is the song is a masterpiece of it’s time.
I’ve never been so happy watching someone listen to a song for the first time.
ME TOO!
That was probably one of the most amazing things that I have watched in a long time - that literally made me stand up and dance. God bless him
I'm confused also.
I couldn’t stop smiling 😁
Looks like your feeling it bro, this is why I love music. It brings out emotions and people that say they don’t listen to music need to think about it. I don’t trust people that don’t listen to music. This guy made my morning 💪💪💪😃😃😃
Shaq: You can tell what kind of song it's about to be already.
The rest of us: You have no idea 😂😂
Chance Coffey I thought the same thing. LOL.
As soon as I heard him say that, I knew, his life was as about to change forever!!
Lol I was thinking same and just waiting for Shaq to flip out!
Same here, I was like "Oh, just wait."
right lol
Bruh I can’t even! When the solo hits and he grabs the tiger 😂😂 The joy shaq brings when he vibes to these rock songs, that I will always love myself, reminds me of the first time I heard these songs getting the same feel and energy! It’s just an amazing feeling to see others break free and love such things. Fly high free birds 🤘
I've never watched this man until seeing this video. That was so damn enjoyable to see him just rocked by it. Thank you Sir for reacting to some oldies! You have me as a sub. I feel lucky to have found your channel.
The song fades away. THE SOLO NEVER ENDS!
*continues to play solo on plane traveling to neighboring countries on tour*
Joe Joe Playing in heaven
This is such a beautiful thought- thanks for putting it in my head.
Somewhere, this song is always playing.
The late great Allen Collins.
He's gonna be at a party like: DUDE they've been hiding Freebird from us listen to this!
Or ... they stole it from us.
@@lisareed5669 Don't worry. I'm sure your invitation will get "lost in the mail".
@@lisareed5669 I spotted a Lisa...
Yeah, Lisa...Beat it!
@@ellenwuzhere hahahaha I love that, her invitation lost
Everywhere we went someone had them playing, we drank a lot of brew listening to this song alone and a lot of smoke. Concerts were amazing.
Shaq, there's a 71 y.o. white dude who watches your reaction every damned day. You just kind of give energy to everything. Even bad days become good days, thanks to you. Appreciate it bro.🙂
Beautiful!
HAHAHA
what @edward muson said. This was the best way to start my week. Thank you.
This sounds familiar
@Eddie R Man, I appreciate that and meant every word. Some of the other channels have mostly drivel......with "I, Me" comments telling us how smart they are....or think they are! I spend a lot of time viewing comments on all types of music, The only ones I ever go back to and listen to over and over are Shaqs. I have my wife hooked on him, too. There are some good guys out there, but nothing like Shaq. He is full of surprises and he is REAL. Knocks himself out with his reactions.
Hands down the best damn reaction I’ve ever witnessed in my life😂😂😂
No DOUBT.
I'm fucking dead😂😂😂😂😂
Had me rolling at the end. 😂
I would agree!!!
Awesome video man, you project pure joy!
Your reaction is PRICELESS!!! And the correct reaction to have with this song! ❤
I don't know how I got here but this is one of the best things I've ever seen on CZcams.....
warhellride his videos are awesome!!!
Same here
My favorite channel by far!!!!!
@OBServe Garage very addictive! It will hit you like opiates if your not careful!!!!
Gave me the chills watching this lol lowkey
Sheer joy watching a young person hear Free Bird for the first time. I am 62 and this came out when I was 16 years old. Thank you for the enjoyment. 😃
My dad is your age and he was so surprised that my favorite song ever is this. So me and my dad turned this up the entire road trip we drove and had on repeat!!
Your channel and reactions are dope bruh, love it and you are the 💣 bomb dude. Stay you and ya never what surprise is next.
Ya never know till ya know!
Love it! Always a joy watching people discover new music and appreciating it. Rock on 🤘
You know when you make a grown man grab his stuffed animal you’ve reached him spiritually🤣
Sly and the family stone,I WANT TO TAKE U HIGHER!!🥁🎶😈
Honey. I'm 62 and here to tell you, You just haven't been living till you've listened to this stoned, flying down the back roads with the top down.
Amen.
I wanna do this
YES
I'm not 62 but 46 and have done that more then once! Love this song and never will forget!
Teresia Diane amen
I really appreciate the lyrical analysis. Some reactions are so lame and just tell you if they like it or not. My man actually puts in the work and tries to understand what the song is about!!! RESPECT!!!
Absolutely radiant reaction Shaq. Much love and respect my brother
Shaq is going out tomorrow and buy an old 4 wheel drive truck ,some boots and a 5th of Jack Daniels
Justin Brown he bout to take his horse down the Old Town Road?
@@BarryNad12 I've never seen a comment that has made me frown so hard
don't forget the double barrel shotgun!
And confederate flag too
@Gerald Duke I'm a Southerner Gerald and proud of it. Embrace all the bullshit they throw at us because most of America knows what's really up.
"bro I don't know what she did to y'all in the relationship... But bro we need some more Free Birds, if y'all gon be playin' like this" That statement right there is everything
Isaiah Not Help Him 🤣 yes it was. Loved his reaction. Face melted, hangs up headphones, exit the room with one last look before leaving. Priceless.
Theeee 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾entire song goes crazzzzzyyyy! so happy you did this bro 🥰💃🏾
Best southern rock band, never be another like them! ❤
You just herd one of the best southern rock songs of all time period!!!
You didn't need to put southern rock in there. It's one of the best songs ever.
@@Pecan3.14wah wah wah.... lynyrd skynyrd is considered southern rock....smh lol
All time. All day. The. Best. Period. You got that right!
True. Greetings from Bavaria germany
