I Rate Twitter’s Tactics (With WorkTheSpace)

- Football Manager has one great focus it seems - who has the best tactic. Well, I’ve assembled the great FM minds, or just Workthespace, to go over some Twitter tactics people believe have caused their FM21 success. We rate them on a scale from Knap to Doctorbenjy, so naturally, this is a very scientific tactical experiment. But thank you, for sending your tactics in, and letting us dive into our dos and don’ts for tactics in this newfangled match engine.
This was a load of fun to do and we should definitely do it more. With football manager actually bouncing ideas off each other is really the best way to learn anyways. It is also very fun to make fun of Workthespace. If only for his tactic preferences. FM21 has changed the way we understand tactics in fm too, so expect more videos on tactics in the future. I am learning to study them more and continue to talk to people who make tactics as a pastime and have for over a decade. Hopefully, that is rubbing off on me. Enjoy!

I almost never use the same mentality on both. And I like asymmetrical build-up play because it draws defenders out of shape.
But I have used a Libero this year. On attack duty. It's like a Segundo Volante who covers defensively. The tactic I used it with, a 5212, created 4 more chances per game. And it ate 4231s and 433s for breakfast. It struggled vs 442. Which makes no sense, as it dealt with wide players in the other formations. But I replaced it with a 442 diamond because I had to sell the libero.
Like you dont understand people who play Real Madrid I dont understand people who play the same premier league every game it must be really boring xD

My favourite part of the first tactic is that he didn't select offside trap. There's just 1 defender, ir shouldn't be hard

That first tactic is taken from FM Scout from last year! Supposed to dominate Vs weak teams, but can't be used against any team who understands what a football is

How about instead of tactics alone you get people's saves, turn off injuries and other random stuff to make it fair, simulate the whole season with the original tactics, then both of you make your own and simulate the whole season too (so 3 simulations in total, obviously no transfers allowed) and then compare your results and team stats? Seems like a fun opportunity to show how much it can influence the outcome of a whole season and also give you the ability to show how your advice works in actual game!
Libero on attack is so good when playing with 3 CBS and with playing out from the back :)
I use a Libero between my two ball playing CBs using a 3-4-3w

I've decided I want to take Wroxham from the 9th tier of English football to glory. The team starts with not even a full gold star team, and finding signings is so so hard. Trial abuse here I come!

I dont think its weird for a Tactic in the 8th tier of football to play for set pieces. I allways have that one ticked in lower leagues, all you need is one big lad and one decent set piece taker and you just print goals at that level.

I used a Libero once on FM 19, in one of the best teams I've ever had, but it was definitely a one-off

I've used a libero to decent success in the Spanish lower leagues (notably Sergio Ayala in FM19).
Tactic was a 5-2-3 with a libero on support, 2 CB's on def, WBsu & CWBat left & right, MEZsu & B2B left & right, with a Winger At, DLFsu & IFsu. Record number of shots on goal in a match was somewhere in the 60ies, with about 1/3rd on target on average. My finishing was so low though that I never got more than 4 goals lol.
I play the exact formation as IDavy with Dortmund but with the DM/BWM on the right and the Mezzala/CM on the left and CWB on the right and 2 Inverted wingers with a Shadow Striker. Else, exactly the same.

The guy, Jason something, is in pretty much everything Judd Apatow does in fairness.
I loved the video, but the only thing is I think you should judge tactics on the context of the team and the players that your subscribers have. Example if someone plays LB attack and RB defence it’s because his RB maybe is not good in attack so he can’t to better. I love your videos.

I used a libero on support and attack I'm fm20 with concord in lower leagues. Was Saul milanovics best position so thought let's run with it for once🤣. Worked ok and could swap to a 433dm wide when needed, libero moved to the DM role.
EYYY The fuckin Knapp shout. That dudes tactics have been among the 2 or 3 best for EVERY FM I've ever played. I legit remember loading up Knapp tactics back in fm15. Dude's tactics are ALWAYS top 5 in MR.L's tactic testing league. Heck I get the sneaking suspicion that most of the tactics surrounding Knapp's in the rankings integrate at least one or two things from Knapp's tactics- whether that is using the same throw-in procedure or corner setup his tactics really set the standard.

The half back on defend tactic: I bet the FB on defend is told to sit narrow - almost as a 3rd CB.
This would allow the WB to overlap the IF and for the HB to drop onto a makeshift back 4 to play long balls to the WB and advanced players.
I’m also thinking that tactic was made for Man United...

The 4th tactic I feel would be more of a real life tactic then an fm tactic
It’s basically going to come down to on defense you will have 5 at the back with the half back and the wing back come back later and on attack the cm will take the role of the fullback in an underlapping role more in the edge of the box with the winger outside of him. The cm would be the slightly further and come wider to get the ball if needed.

Someone is using a variation of my "Z" formation and it turned out to be the 2nd most effective tactic. lol. Biggest difference is that they replaced the Segundo Volante with a Halfback.

I used a 3-4-1-2 with a libero and win the Copa Libertadores so I think it works
Last year used a libero in tactic that got FC Andorra to CL final, so I've got positive experience too, worked really well. Might be the absolutely insane guy I played there though.
I really wish SI would nerf Gegenpressing and make the other styles more viable. I mean, 4-2-3-1 Attacking Gegenpressing is just a meme.

U have to start pressing the opposition, higher pressing intensity and tempo and make sure u have a higher line of engagement

I think it's a missed opportunity to not look at the tactics ingame... While I appreciate the concept of this video, what you end up wtih is two persons armchair-guessing whether a tactic would work out or not. Look at it ingame, then realize why the creators might have made the choices they did
