LYRICS
C’mon, c’mon Naveed (x6)
Are you there, and is it comfortable?
Did you want to escape, try to escape
the population?
Sure, it’s deceiving,
for you particularly
to let a young man die?
Ooh
Let him die if he wants to, die if her wants to
I can't live here anymore
but it's hard when you reach for that floor
something that tears me inside, so i can't go
brother, are you there?
Tell me is it wonderful
or were you hoping to find, hoping to find
something a little more?
Counting down the hours
I need to know now
hands of time only rule this chapter
I’ll have to try once again, oh
I’ll have to try
when I want to (x2)
I can't live here anymore
but it's hard when you reach for that floor
something that tears me inside
oh, I can’t live here anymore, anymore
there he's on his knees again
trying hard to understand
why Naveed would let a young man die
convinced that he might break
he reaches for that phone
and then another day has gone
oh another day is gone (x2)
is gone (x15)
I can't live here anymore
but it's hard when you reach for that floor
something that tears me inside
oh, I can’t live here anymore
I can't live here anymore (x5)
anymore
C’mon, c’mon Naveed (x10) - Hudba
March 22nd, 2024 - 30 years of Naveed and still kicking ass!
GFNG ser!
you didn't got this in your recommended, you searched for this song. You are a legend
I did search for this song. I remember seeing this video on Much music ( Canadian MTV) I used to love Much music channel. I don't live near Canada. I live in North Carolina USA. I got Much music through DirecTV.
Me!
Fuck yes
@@richardshermanjr1899 I live in Ohio.... Couple hours to Windsor but still definitely not Canada! But I grew up with MuchMusic as well....and NOT muchmusic USA or fuse...the real deal!
Naveed is cool but a true Much fan might follow up with Age of Electric's remote control and then Serial Joe's mistake!
Not even 1M views. How the hell?
Naveed is about a brother of a Muslim friend Raine had in school. His brother committed suicide and it is about his struggle to carry on in the world and not follow the same path. "It's hard when you reach for the floor" is a reference to the Muslim prayer where we put our face on the ground. I'm a Canadian convert to Islam and I never understood the full meaning of the song until now. Naveed is also written in Arabic or Farsi on Raine's guitar in this video.
I never knew any of that. Thanks dude.
Thanks , brother
Wow. Thank you for the insight, I need these tracks right now
That chorus has to be one of the best ever written. Raine's voice blows me away.
nickwick35 these guys are maybe the most underrated band in the world
This band will always destroy me with its unbelievable talent for the time. I cannot stop listening to them, and its been since the 90's. I love this band. Too good, really.
@@walshy2116 omg yes!
thinks that he might break, he reaches for that phone, another day is gone, oh another day ... is gone oh another day is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone....IS GONE IS GONE IS GONE ... i cant live here any more...
so raw, so real, so gutwrenching but comforting at the same time
Finally a song with my name on it lol
Very underated comment
Salam alaikum, this is actually about a Muslim friend Raine knew in High school. He was was contemplating suicide but the Muslim prayer saved him: “It’s hard when you reach for that floor” is a reference to salah.
@@Islam4Europeans Subhan Allah
This is the best Our Lady Peace song... and it's not even close.
The songwriting code: you can't say "is gone 15 times and call it a bridge"
OLP: "hold my beer."
beautiful lol
Hit this comment as I got to the bridge, beautiful timing
Went to a wedding in Estevan, SK with my family when I was in about 6th grade and saw this on the tv in the hotel. Came back home and bought the tape. Still listen to them to this day and always wanted to see them live.
I heard this in high school and was blown away with the emotions and talent of this band. Good memories
It's crazy how I actually forgot how good this band is (I'm 40). Underrated without a doubt. Canada can put out some great stuff.
Canada has some killer bands
Big Wreck / Thornley
walk off the earth , chic gamine , anything with alexa dirks ,,,,,, canada is on fire
Yeah we do, haha. We especially made some great rock music over the decades!
Agreed from Québec Canada 🇲🇶🇨🇦🖐️
I love the fluidity of Jeremy Taggarts playing and the fantastic sound of his drums captured on the recording.
His drummin' reminds me of the drummin' on Finger Eleven's early records. Specifically "Tip".
Top level drumming
Love the 90's, the long hair, the flannel shirts, the music... Everything was so simple.
Me too 😉
Was it though? I was depressed myself, and a lot of the stars from that time came to a bad end. Thankfully these guys are doing well, and I can't complain either.
Gelled, spiky hair with frosted tips, shell necklaces, bowling shirts.
90s Rocked!
For a period of time in the 90s this song was literally everything for me.
Best pronunciation of Particularly ever.
This whole album was Fire.
This song makes my heart just swell with happiness. I don't give a shit if that sounds corny, the raw musical energy in this song is phenominal. Brings me back to my childhood. Love it, love it, love it.
God...I miss the 90s
The music
So many memories
OLP's best song.
It was the song that put them on the map, at least in Canada. I think they've done better since, but it was a deserved breakthrough.
I heard this band all through high-school and didn't think too much of them but now that am older I am feeling this now!!!
There's just something about this song... It captures some vibe from my teenage-hood that I can't quite put into words. I love it.
These guys are INCREDIBLE live. They sound just like their CD. Wish they were still makin' music and touring. They've been one of my favorite bands for ever, and I'm 44!
notTHEcher they are just went to a concert of there’s last night with Matthew good and they have a new album. Concert was awesome
I went to Hamilton just to see them livw at 13...parents were so against it...but I absolutel was obsessed...
This song has that juicy early 90s feel.
Still my favorite OLP song. There are other contenders but THIS one always takes the W
The whole album is gold 🔥
Damn when I heard this song I was 18 now I'm 37 WOW still love this song
I was 13 and now I'm 34. Time flies and we lived through the Renaissance of Canadian music.
Carsey Jones this song was my 'white whale'. i heard it 20 years ago and liked it, but not enough to investigate further. every year or so this song came back into my head. i tried singing the bits and pieces i could remember to friends of mine, some of which were able to recognize it, but no one could name the band or song.
today i am finally free of my search!!! buying the album asap.
And now you should be forty...how does it feel now?
losttribe3001 man really payin attention arnt ya lol great song i was 18 as well and now im 38 and no i dont feel old at all as long as i got music like this and other great 90s rock tunes im.timeless in mind
uhm, really? I think I was 13 or younger when I heard this song, and am only 35 right now.
This is one of the best 90's albums of all time!!! Every song in this album is excellent.
love your John Lennon photo
I'm 67 and haven't heard this good a music sound in a long ⌛️
these songs are still being played on mixed cassettes and burnt CD's, everywhere!
Holy shit.. I forgot how much this song kicks ass.
This one's for you JDog! I miss you and love you Man! Thanks for all the years of friendship. Age 5 to when we lost you a few months back. Miss jammin with ya Broski. RIP ❤
this is when Muchmusic used to be good I wish I could relive the 90s again
@patrick grondines Why... it still exists?
I live all the way in North Carolina USA and I remember getting Much music from DirecTV.
@@theop1875 well they don't make videos on much anymore
Raine has the most pronounced vibrato I have ever heard.
Omg there are no words to express how much this song hits me now and how it did when it first came out
"It's named after a friend of mine. His name is Naveed. He is Iranian and one day he told me the background (of the name) was a person referred to as a bearer of good news. The album title Naveed kind of ties in all the lyrics. 'Naveed' talks about someone scared to die, but at the same time interested in it. Naveed was playing with a gun and was unaware that one chamber within the gun contained a bullet. We took the concept of Naveed and placed it in the dark optimism of our music. We have forced Naveed to travel the distance between mysticism and bitter reality" - Raine Maida I credit that information from Wikipedia.. Thanks and your welcome youtubers
Jon
+Jonathan Wilson *woah*. I was always a big fan of OLP, but the story of Naveed... mind blown...
Jonathan Wilson I've been listening to OLP since I was about 11, probably even younger and I always wondered what this song was about. Thank you for posting!
Brian ummmm right. They haven’t invaded anyone in hundreds of years ....even the Iraqis invaded them at our behest with american weapons we gave to saddam... while secretly arming Iranians on the back end... we only hate them because when the CIA ovethrew their democratically elected leader and installed The shah (so we could snag oil on the cheap) they actually fought back ... keep in mind they never took Canadians, the English or any other western country/embassy hostage ..... but you’re right. It’s not OUR politicians. It’s Them... go read a book and educate yourself on the facts
My name is naveed too :) :) :)
“It’s hard when you reach for that floor” is a reference to the Muslim prayer
This song hits me taking me back to losing my dad when I was a kid. He was a young man. As a kid I felt the world on my shoulders having to be the man of the family for my mom & grandma.
Wow bro, that would change you. How are you going these days?
One of the most underrated band and this song proves it...
Brings back memories scumming around Toronto music clubs catching crazy bands doing pop up shows. Tea Party, The Hip, OLP, Moist...Some great times in small smoky clubs listening to the pinnacle of Canadian Alt-Rock
Love Tea Party
I have a question for you. What Canadian band that used to be on Much music around the same time period as Our lady peace had a lead singer that looked like Jim Morrison from the doors?
@@richardshermanjr1899 Tea Party most likely. Incredible band.
@@ShawnPowerzThanks!!😀I had tried to Google it but couldn't really get anything
holy shit this band is so fucking good
ฯEddie ฯ haha yeah to be honest, this is like one of the only songs I like by them, the rest I just can't get into. I was really high when I wrote that comment and didn't consider that I don't care for this band (with the exception of this song and starseed)
ฯEddie ฯ k indeed, mr. deadmeme
One of the most underrated bands...glad to have come across ...
Still relevant and still ahead of its time.
the days listen to olp..best band ever in the 90s..love you guys
The raw emotion in this song. Simply amazing.
I remember watching this video on Much Music when I was like 5 or 6 and being enraptured and kind of creeped out by the imagery. It started my life long love OLP's music. Still my fave OLP song to this day.
i wasn't even born when Naveed came out
I use to smoke my weed to Naveed until 4am somewhere out there feeling like a one man army!
Lol. Where are you birdman lol
Nice play with the songs....lol
Good LIFE!
Did you feel innocent?
The intro to this song is like an infinite dopamine glitch
This song consists of a very high percentage of badassery
Very underrated band!! Listening in 2018 still gives me chills
favorite song of all time, hands down.
my dream would be to duet this with rain on like "canadian idol" or whatever.
i use this song as my rowing machine motivation at the gym.
the energy at the filming of the concert part of this video must have been off the charts
The Naveed/Life medley on the live cd is amazing!
I was just thinking of it listening to this now
Our Lady Peace... The first 2 albums were absolutely wonderful.
I can't believe this song is only three years younger than me, but i can still remember hearing it throughout my youth. I can't believe the music that I love is being considered classic now.
Naveed
Our Lady Peace
Lyrics
Are you there, and is it comfortable?
Did you want to escape, try to escape the population?
The pressure is deceiving,
And for you particularly should we let a young man die?
Let him die if he wants to?
I can't live here anymore
It's hard when you reach for that floor and
And there's something that tears me inside, so I can't
Go brother are you there?
Now tell me is it wonderful
Or were you hoping to find something a little more?
Climbing down the hours I need to know now
Do the hands of time only rule this chapter
I'll have to try once again, I'll have to try when I want to
There he's on his knees again
Trying hard to understand
Why Naveed would let a young man die
Convinced that he might break he reaches for that phone
And then another day has gone
That last verse chills for days....... Is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone is gone
you left the come come Naveed part out
This song reminds me of when I was 19, and a girl that I loved dearly.
We went our separate ways a few years later. Life went on. We married other people, had children. But I hear this song, and I feel her in my heart all over again.
This is the song that made me completely fall in love with them very unique band love his voice
Recently, I got a chance to see these guys in OKC on tour with Bush. They were absolutely amazing! Sounded amazing, just like they did in the 90's. Brought back a ton of memories from the era, to say the least.
Bassline is just beyond greatness ❤
I really don't know how they only have 57k subscribers
Im almost 41 this song still rocks
Right here with u brother
I saw them in Orlando for Earth day birthday. I forget the year but it was in the parking lot of Hard Rock Cafe. The sky was filled with water bottles being thrown across the crowd. Then some doped up kid got on stage and kissed the lead singer. What a memory, great songs, great band!
Canada have always produced excellent bands
Counterpoint: Nickelback 😂
i don't know why people don't want to listen to great music like this anymore...i hope so much more that olp will rise again...
ppl are listening.... don't kid urself
they are still making great music here's a new one i heard in the front row in london ontario! drop my in the water!!
drendywibowo I know what you mean, music this good isn't popular anymore. The top ten billboard charts are topped with terrible music of people with no talent and can't play an instrument. I also wonder when good music will be popular again.
Such an underrated and powerful song. I don't even really like OLP but this whole album was amazing.
Classic... Canadian ... Golden!!!!
Always a classic on my playlist. Real music for the world to hear and rock to.
my favorite song, from my favorite band. I am not exaggerating. my 7 year old son loves it too, sings alone and everything. Watching him do the WHOOOOHO part is so cute lol
I’m here hahaha I’m Naveed 😂😂😂😂
I remember listening to these guys when I was like 12/13 for the first time still amazing 👌🏽❤️
Beautiful song. I had heard Our Lady Peace for years from the states and fit them into some paradigm because their sound only. This song came later for us after "Superman's Dead", "Starseed", "Automatic Flowers". The band was kind of pitched to us as a PJ/SP mix. I was already a fan, but when we finally got their first album and we got "Birdman", "Hope", "Neon Crossing", "Oskar".... I hope they come back to the states to tour!
Matt good pushing his pipe bumpin this track
This song. Just this. Amazing.
this was their best stuff
best band of the 90d
Caught these guys at one of their earliest shows - I think there were maybe 10 people tops in the audience. It was at the long gone Penguin on Elgin in Ottawa, I seem to remember... It's all a drunken happy blur now - but I do remember quite well when they played a cover of the Sons Of Freedom "Mona Lisa"... truly awesome.
Saw these guys open for 'Page-Plant' in '95. Chicago. Saw both dates. The singer blew his voice out on the last song, the second date. Good shows!
I was 8 when this album came out. Helped to build the immense love and admiration for all original music that I have to this day.
i was a sperm when this came out
such a classic !!!
Superman tears me inside. That's what I've been singing and I'm sticking to it.
I love how he keeps getting angrier and angrier @ 3:33 it kinda reminds me of the "think happy thoughts" part in Headfirst For Halos by MCR
And you decided to play this video as opposed to the touted mainstream video. We are so blessed to have grown up in an age of REAL music! 😃👍🇺🇸
KILLER TUNE!! REMINDS OF MY BRO IN HEAVEN
I have'nt seen them live, but man I'd love to!
First time I heard Naveed I was 36 it was an impact blend of perfection. Now at 71 my appreciation of this group is still climbing , Bravo
Your math is off, If you’re 71, 2022 - 71 = 1951 +36= 1987 which is 7 years before this song even came out
Our Lady Peace is the best band in the world
That's great ... nice to see my name written in Urdu language on the guitar.
Dude literally my name is Naveed and it's like he is calling me dude😂BTW nice song👍
Another beauty from this fabulous band!!
Our Lady piece,,,Big Wreck,,,,I Mother Earth ,,great bands good tunes ,from Canada EH!!!! 😎😎🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😎😎👍👍👍 Go Leafs Go 🤪🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦😎😎👻👻🤓🤓🏒🏒🏒😰😰😇😇😇😎😎🇨🇦🇨🇦👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️
Best bridge ever
This is an amazing album. Good times!
I have their greatest hits CD. It is bonkers amazing!!! So underrated and the lead singers voice is really good. Everyone is just fantastic.
I won backstage passes once. My friend and I reused them 3 times. Just walked backstage like we owned the place. I love the 90s. I was truly never more alive.
This is so so so so good
Best alternative rock drummer of the 90s.
30 years later... this song is still prevalent 😷
Easily the best track from this album and possibly the best one they have ever produced
I really don't like anything post-Clumsy, but holy hell did their first 2 albums rule.
had a couple good songs on happiness tbh
Spot on , still great Canadian musak.
Spot on sir, first heard them 30 yrs ago on jobsite from a high school station plantation, fl.
Bet.
This song kicks ass. Its time for a rock revolution!
This was a great debut album and single. They went down very quickly after this album, which was bright and raw and clean.
so much promise that was never realized.... oh well
i forget his name but the lead guitarist (mike turner maybe?) left the band after naveed and they never recaptured that magic
sorry for digressing but these guys headlined an arena tour. prob just canada but still that impressive. too bad raine maida went pop
***** yes of course, my mistake. I remember him clearly on the clumsy album. Stopped following them after that album. Not sure why I remembered it that way
Thanks for the correction.
Oh I still heard their radio hits. Innocent is one of my fave songs. Just stopped buying their albums so I don't know any album tracks.
Naveed right here :)
i saw them perform live in the parking lot of a costa mesa tower records when they first got started. fantastic!!
love this song
