@andy That’s nonsense, if you review your losses, you can learn from mistakes made, learn areas you need to work on to win next time. If you‘d never lost (or came very close to it), have you really ever been challenged? Also, no one starts off an expert in, sports for example, name someone who has never lost, you grow and learn as you move up in leagues, levels, age, whatever. What about learning you need to work harder so as not to lose? Very naive if you think you can’t learn from losing, you should be learning every time you compete- win lose or draw.

An American pool player trying to break into snooker is like an American baseball player breaking into cricket. He or she would basically have to move to another country to develop competitive match play experience. Not easy to do.

Thanks mate, we love you too. :-) I watch snooker, you 'should' watch more pool, it's good stuff. Take a look at some professional carom (three cushion pool), likely the most difficult stick and table game out there. When Ronnie came to the states and tried it out you could tell he really liked it...he said something about the delayed satisfaction, as many times up to five and occasionally six rails are involved in a shot, and pocketing counts exactly 0%, as there aren't any on the table. I was a bit surprised how well Ronnie adapted, totally different than snooker. And by difficulty I mean in running strings. Two completions on an inning is considered pro level play, and more than twenty is virtually unheard of, though it has happened, as I understand it. Also one pocket might hold some appeal, the strategy there has been likened to making it the chess of pool.

@@spareumbrella8477 it's actually the opposite. Most top pool pros are decent at snooker, but the best snooker players in the world (Ronnie, Trump, etc.) are trash at pool.
Selby was originally a pool player and has won snooker world championships. Efren beat Ronnie at snooker back in the day. Jayson Shaw - the only actual pro that Trump played (who spanked him 11-0 or 10-1) has a 145 break. Snooker just isn't a hard game with the small balls, open pockets, about 50 balls to choose from, and the patterns get super repetitive. Plus the table is a bit bigger (12 ft vs the 9 or 10 feet typical in pool), so there's a lot more open space to work with (people who don't play pool usually don't realize that for good players it gets easier to break and run as the tables get bigger).

Some of the Brits need to realize that in pool, only the top players are full-time pros. There's no money in pool past the first twenty or thirty places in the rankings. In the early 2010s a friend of mine was friends with the guy who ranked 27th, and he told me the guy had to drive to tournaments and sleep in his car. Most pool tournaments have lots of part time players, amateurs, former pros who have stepped away from the game full time, etc. My friend for instance is a 60+ year old rare book dealer and yet he plays in the pro tournaments that are local to him. I don't know who Joe is but I haven't seen him in a match before.

@@monopinion7824 I think he played really bad not showing much ball control, using the wrong spin @5:40 caused him to scratch and lose the first match. To be fair Judd also played very defensively not giving McGee any room to breath when possible. But what else to be expected from #2 Snooker player? Just kind of a wasted opportunity to see him face someone more skilled.

I thing he misjudged the shot, and scratched but what do you mean wrong spin ? It depends on the angle he had he could have been playing right spin with a little bit of high to avoid the middle pocket for 3 rails or low left to avoid the middle pocket. But believe it has nothing to do with wrong spin...
Anyway Judd tried competitive pool he was ok for a pro i hope he will do it again. He can only get better at it with his skills.

The legendary cricketer Donald Bradman became brilliant because he used to practice cricket playing with a stump and a golf ball. Because snooker is played with large tables and small holes it's almost as easy for a snooker player to win a game of pool as it is for a pro golfer to win a crazy golf tournament!

he has curvy cue action which is not the cue sport is about, it should be straight as a line.
he has put in extreme hours with curvy action so it works for him.
people can walk on a rope if they keep on doing same thing again and again so not an extraordinary thing for curvy action to work

They are called "diamonds", and you'll find them on a carom table as well. They are a mathmatical guide for getting the correct angle. It's called playing the "diamond system" and the same diamonds have different values, for the cue position and the object ball.
