- In this video, I replace a worn, collapsed rear engine mount on the 2003 4cyl Honda Accord. The procedure is the same for the 2004 - 2005 Acura TSX and similar for the V6 accord. The part is also known as a motor mount.
Get the following items used in the video from Amazon:
1. OEM rear mount used in this video (P/N 50810-SDA-A02): amzn.to/3bRiHku

Just replaced the rear and makes it seem like the car has an electric engine now compared to before. Thanks for the video.
Great to hear! 👌🏼
Fixing the rear one fixed your problem? The front mount was still good?
All other mounts in the car were bad, except the passenger side which was hanging on. Had to fix all for the clunck to go away.
Amazing stuff here Chief. Finally a Nigerian DIY mechanic, someone I can relate with. You should do a tool tour. I was shocked when I saw the torque wrench and saw you "torqued to spec". Thank you!
Many thanks! Will look into doing a tool tour as suggested.
Tool tour done! Thanks a lot for the suggestion.

I thought he was Jamaican...🤔
Lol. Nope...
I was able to replace my aftermarket mount with Honda genuine using your video as a guide. Thank you! Yes, you are right, regarding mounts it’s best to go genuine/oem. My Accord’s engine is practically whisper quiet and virtually no vibration.
Thanks! Glad to hear this was helpful.
Are the aftermarket that bad?
In my country i couldn't find de OEM so i got the AM. I hope is not that bad. Or at least better than a broken original.
AM is definitely better than a broken OEM. It just comes down to what is available to you. If both are available, I would choose OEM since they are better, if not, AM. I can imagine there would be good AM, I just haven't used one.
@@DIYAutoworksNG I used a AM motor mount (MRC brand)for the front mount and it reduced vibration by 70%. I am in the states and can cash in on life time warranty, but I will be using AM for rear mount (Pioneer) and passenger mount (MRC). Will update this comment on how well they work. Will do them one at a time to avoid problems.
Thanks a lot for the feedback and offering the experiment! I'm always on the lookout for AM parts that meet or exceed OEM because of the cost savings. Looking forward to your update! 👌🏼
Saved me a headache taking off the top bolt! Thank you man!
Glad, you found this useful!
Thanks for video it helps alot I'm a fast learner just need ideas respect I'm bout to change all my engine mounts and this video helps alot
All the best mate!
Great video and very good observations
Many thanks!
This is a perfect example bro
Many thanks!
You have really invested much on your tools, I wish I could afford them most especially that torque wrench and adapters.
Picking them up tool by tool adds up over time. Just start with whatever budget you have. I cherish the torque wrench.
Nice work man 👍
Thanks!
Excellent video. Thank you
Thanks!
excellent video
Thanks for the compliment.
Hey my friend thank you very much for this video and taking your time to do it, it was very helpful to me I’m appreciate the almighty bless you. Un abrazo desde USA 🇺🇸
Thanks a lot for taking the time to appreciate! All the best!
Good job thank you
🙏🏼👍🏼
Thank you!!!!
You're welcome!
Good video sir, can worn out engine mounts affect the ball joint on the Honda accord 2003 model?
Thank you.
Thanks for the compliment. While I cannot say for sure, worn mounts will definitely transmit vibrations to other parts of the car including ball joints and cause them to fail quicker. That said, I think worn bushings and suspension parts will affect ball joints more.
Can you do this without removing the heat shield? That bolt behind it is stuck on tight
Maybe, not sure. Breaker bar / impact wrench haven't worked?
When I did my front mount there was an air hose attached underneath. Will the rear mount have that hose also?
No. Only the front mount on this model is vacuum controlled. Thanks for watching!
Torque specs for 2003 - 2007 Accord 2.4L:
Lower transmission mounts - 33 foot pounds (44NM),
Transmission upper mount - 33 food pounds for two side bolts (tighten them first), 40 foot pounds (54NM) for bolt going through center rubber of the mount,
Engine side mount - 47 foot pounds (64NM),
Front and rear mount subframe bolts - 40 foot pounds (54NM). Horizontal bolt 40 foot pounds. Mount stop (cover) nuts 47 foot pound (64NM).
Thanks for these!
Good quick video with out the extra crap and good English.
Many thanks!
@@DIYAutoworksNG no, thank you. The ride is way better. No more clinks when I switch gears.
Great video! What is the simptoms of bad engine mount?
Thanks!
Symptoms include, vibrations when car is stopped and transmission in drive (with foot on brake pedal) e.g. At a red light.
Also, excessive engine movement (jerk) when the transmission engages drive from a stopped position.
@@DIYAutoworksNG front or rear for the engine jerk??
Both
When changing the rear mount, do I have to losen the front and passenger side mount before lifting the engine?
Not at all. Just the rear mount.
@@DIYAutoworksNG thanks!
Would this mount work for a 2007 Acura TSX, same engine I think?
Yes. It works for the 2004 - 2008 Acura TSX 2.4L
I just watched your video but I noticed you didn’t plus in the hoses for the hydraulics
This car doesn't have mounts that are vacuum controlled, so no hose to plug in.
Where did you get the engine mount
Honda arena, Apo, Abuja
Hello,
That side bolt by the firewall would not budge for nothing. I’ve tried wrenches, a ratchet with no luck. It’s such a tough spot to get leverage. Any advice?
Hi,
Are you using a universal joint plus extensions? You will need this to be able to use a breaker bar above the engine. Get what I mean?
@@DIYAutoworksNG
Thanks for the response. I did tried a swivel rachet, and it was pretty difficult to fit . This is the single bolt across the top of the mount. You have the brake lines in the way.
I now get the bolt you mean. It's a bugger to get loose sometimes. Can you try to see if you could use 2 combination wrenches? You know how to combine 2 combination wrenches for better leverage? The first combination wrence may need to be the one with a flex head.
@@DIYAutoworksNG
I did used a swivel wrench with a bar inside of it for leverage. It was a no go. I was thinking about buying a Milwaukee rachet cordless to see if that might get it to break the torque. My son and I tried so many things, and gave up for the day. With the Milwaukee tool not sure if it will have enough torque.
Are you able to tell if the bolt is rusted?
Can I get it at ladipo, thanks for the video
Yea, this should be abundant at ladipo
@@DIYAutoworksNG thanks
Hola,es el mismo que el delantero????
So sorry as I don't understand or speak Spanish.
Si es la misma pieza, no, pero la metoda es similar para remplazarlo.
No es diferente que el de enfrente.....el de enfrente tiene una mangura de vaccumm abajo...........la de atras no tiene....
¡Estás en el clavo!
I put aftermarket motor mounts on mine and car is shaking again after 2.5 years. I probably should get used oem motor mounts and change em. You think my after market ones have failed. They have no cracks at all.
My AM ones were shaking right after fitting them. Since it sounds like yours were not from the onset, just be sure to eliminate a rough idle before settling for the mount.
@@DIYAutoworksNG What would be causing the rough idle? I’ve done several things to my car in the last 2 months.
Check the usual tune items. Fuel trim data could guide on where to look if the vibration is really an emissions issue.
@@DIYAutoworksNG I’ve fixed the rough idle. It was a bad map flow sensor. But still shaking. Drives a whole lot better though. Smoother and faster.
Just the kind of news I like to hear! Remember to change your air cleaner element too and clean your throttle body if it's been a while those were done per manufacturers' recommendation.
