    Guitar E sting and power supply from an old computer works well for me. I connected the string to yellow and black wires from PS, that is 15V. Also green and black should be connected to start the PS.
    My cutter cuts just a little bit slower than yours.

    It might be a good idea to have decent ventilation while doing this. A friend of mine who works in design noted some colleagues had serious health problems after years of hot wire cutting foam for mockups. They probably cut more foam and the fumes were possibly less contained within the foam. Nice work though! Looking forward to your PU build!

    Really enjoyed a few of your videos today and this is a great how to.
    Question... Could you reverse your switches? Putting the dimmer on the bow instead so that you can adjust your wire temp as you are cutting or is that too much strain on the inverter since it would always be on max? Could also print a pulley system like a throttle cable on a motor that would control the dimmer. Just throwing out ideas from one maker to another.

    Great idea, make a hard pattern that can't burn in seconds atleast, I was surfing the net on how I can control the cutting with only a wire cutter, in a wider distance, thanks

    Love the video. I have a memory foam mattress I need to reduce the thickness on. I think what you show in your video will work. I’ll have to make a VERY large bow to do it though. I clicked on the link for the transformer you used but they’re sold out. Do you have a recommendation on a different one that would work? Thanks.

  • @keithsantos
    @keithsantos Před rokem

    Your description of the transformer says XFR1012E. In the video you use a XFR1012D. I purchased an E not realizing they were different until I watched the video again to build my hot wire cutter. Will it still be possible to build this with the wrong transformer? Also, I printed the box and it came out beautiful! Thank you for the info, your videos are truly inspiring!

    hi, i wanted to ask if any protective equipment should be worn when using a foam cutter since the smell emitted when cutting foam is a bit foul.

    is there wire that isn't straight line? can you make a serrated knife edge by bending a thicker wire? I want to cut it like a defined jaggered line as ONE cut not multiple passes. any ideas?

    can you send me a photo with the label of the current converter to know exactly what to get for its construction ... I want to do the same with half a meter of wire and please tell me how thick the wire is ... I think it is nickel colored so???

    I'm sorry but I didn't see how you wired the bow is white on one end and black on the other end of the nichrome wire also wondering if a 12 volt battery charger would work one clamp on each end of the nichrome wire

    I'm building a 38 gauge nichrome foam cutter with a wire distance of 90cm (35 inch). How much voltage would you estimate I need to make it hot enough to cut foam?

    I’m trying to figure out something. With all your amazing projects and intellectual proficiency why do certain individuals (a lot of them) say ah, umh and uh? Also, in retrospect of viewing all your replies to the 23 comments, you only respond to praises and don’t/haven’t as yet respond to inquiring questions. With that said, I’m not expecting one either?
