    • @VectorArtAcademy

      Hi Paula, it sounds like either you may need to adjust the padding around the glow effect (see the step at 06:30 in this video and repeat that in your new file to see if that helps,) or it may be an effect scaling issue, I did a supplementary video about using the effect on smaller or larger art here: czcams.com/video/1emGE6vXG1M/video.html If neither of those help please feel free to contact me here: vectorart.academy/contact/ with more details and I'll do my best to help you get it working for you!

      Hi Kyle, glad you liked the tutorial!
      My quick work around for this is just to copy and paste the artwork temporarily into a new document, change the global swatch to whatever color you like, then paste it back into your main document.
      When you bring it back in you'll get the new global swatch added to your palette and you can create another graphic style from it to build a whole set of different color styles in one doc.

      Hi Jess, great question! My quick work around for this is just to copy and paste the artwork temporarily into a new document, change the global swatch to whatever color you like, then paste it back into your main document. When you bring it back in you'll get the new global swatch added to your palette and you can create another graphic style from it the same way we did for the original. • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před 5 měsíci

      Yeah, unfortunately this really doesn't translate very well to CMYK with most colors. The closer your base color is to pure magenta, yellow or cyan the better it translates but a lot of nice in between colors really only work in RBG. I've been experimenting with recreating this tutorial in CMYK with more "safe" colors but its very limiting.

      Oh yes, I had to explain this so many times when I did more print work. I actually wonder if it would be helpful to make a short, non-technical video explaining it in simple terms with visual aids that people could show to clients to help them understand the limitations. Some clients get it right away and then there were some where I got the feeling they just thought we were be being difficult 😅

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před rokem

      Hi there! This is a tricky question because printing results vary a lot depending on your file set up, what type of printing you're doing and the actual colors you choose for the neon effect since some hue ranges convert to CMYK better than others.
      In general effects like these will always look much better for digital display purposes than print, but you can certainly try it out starting with a CMYK file and following the same process.
      Most printers will be able to answer questions or provide you with a color proof to make sure the effect looks acceptable before printing. I definitely recommend getting in touch with them and showing them the file beforehand to see if it's something they can produce to the standard you are looking for. I hope that helps! ~Kat

      @VectorArtAcademy  Před 2 lety +2

      Hi Tayla! I'm so glad you liked the video 😊 Yes, you could apply this style to text. A couple of tips: You'd want to pick a super bold font and start with a really big point size, apply the graphic style, then in your transform panel make sure you have "Scale Stoke & Effects" turned on before you scale it to whatever size you need for your design. Also just a note this style will only work as a text outline. I could definitely do another video at some point that builds the neon effect as a fill which would work better for thinner script fonts. I hope that helps!

    Hi is this good for printing in paper or fabric?

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před 2 lety

      Hi Vene! Generally speaking you can print anything you make in Illustrator as long as you save and export your file properly for the specifications your printer needs. This file is built in the RGB color space so you'd need to convert it to CMYK, make sure the raster effects resolution is set to 300 dpi and check with your printer for any other specific settings they require. These bright neon effects tend to look best on screen since they can remain RGB, converting it to CMYK will typically dull the colors a bit. I hope that helps!

    This is amazing! Thank you. Question: In your starter file, the process works great and turns out exactly as shown in the video. However, when I tried moving the graphic style to a different file, the shadow is WAY darker and the shape as a whole just isn't as well blended. (I wish I could attach a couple screenshots to show the difference). I checked to make sure none of the effects or anything were removed and they're all there. I'm wondering if it's a difference in how you set up your file or something? Do you know how to fix it??

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před rokem

      Hi Hallie! I suspect it has something to do with your color space, is your new document CMYK or RGB? RGB work better for this kind of effect since you a wider range of colors to work with the blends tend to be smoother. If that's not it perhaps I can take a look! You can send screen shots or your file to the email address listed in the About tab.

    Hi, thanks for the tutorial but I’m having a bit of a problem. I created the shadow layer but for some reason the black shadow doesn’t show up on your background or any other background except white background. Why is that ?

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před 2 lety

      Hi Blake! I'm not sure why that would be happening, do make sure your blend mode for that stroke layer is set to multiply and it should work. It's a pretty subtle effect since its between all the other glowing stroke layers but if you zoom in and toggle the visibility of just that stroke you should be able to see it.

    I'm having difficulty applying this effect to another document. I can apply it just fine, but the stroke is so large and Un-adjustable. Any suggestions for this problem?

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před rokem

      Hi Hannah! Did you get this worked out? Sorry for the late reply! What you can do is select the art that you have applied the neon style to, under your transform options, make sure you have checked "Scale Stroke and Effects" and scale that object down. Now if you resave the graphic style you will have a scaled down version of the effect that you can apply to other art. If I get a few minutes today I will make a quick video demo and link it to you here.

    what if you are not seeing an opacity option on your color palette? could it be an issue with mac versus pc? I have checked in both RGB and CMYK modes and neither has the opacity option in the colour palette.

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před rokem

      Hi J, you will find the opacity option in the transparency panel which is separate from your color panels. If you don't see it on your workspace you can open it from the window menu. I hope that helps! ~Kat

    Is there a way to save this as a transparent picture so if i wanna make a overlay or a picture to add to another picture. I just cant work it out how it would work. Or does it need a dark background to work?

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před rokem +1

      Hi Harley, anything with a glowing effect like this definitely works best on a dark background overall. You could import your picture into Illustrator (using File > Place) and just put it on a layer below your art with the neon effect though, as long as the image is dark enough to show the contrast it should work.

      Hi Leo, sorry for the delay I'm just back from holiday break. You can use this on text if you have a very thick font, there are also other ways to apply neon effects too. I plan to do another video about it in the future but you can find one here: czcams.com/video/VaFpjRhmdQE/video.html

    can i change the size? I want to design a business card and the line is very thick

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Neo Experience, you can scale the effect pretty easily actually! All you need is to have "Scale Stroke & Effects" option checked and then you can make the line any size you need. You can find that option either under Edit > Preferences > General, or by double clicking the Scale Tool to bring up the options. It should also appear in your properties panel if you have nothing selected and at the bottom of the Transform panel (Window > Transform) so there are lots of ways to get to that option to turn it on and off. I hope that helps!

      Hi Jiahe, sorry you are having difficulties, what happens when you try to apply the style to a shape or line? Does applying other graphic styles work?

    • @VectorArtAcademy
      @VectorArtAcademy  Před 2 lety

      There is a quick work around for this, if you copy and paste any element with this style to a new blank document and change your color, you can cut and paste it back in to the original file and it will keep its new color. You can resave this as a new graphic style also so you can apply multiple colors.
