    I've travelled on XPTs a lot. The main reason people choose first class is the 'quality' of the passengers. If you like travelling with noisy backpackers and sometimes 'interesting' people, economy is fine.

      Meth heads and other undesirables unfortunately in Economy on the North Coast Line. As an Age Pensioner I get generous discount to go First Class. Feel very sorry for all the good reasonable people in Economy subjected to the crappy antics of the minority of low-lifes around them. Only low alcohol beer available on this line too, for a good reason.

    I've taken first class on the XPT between Brisbane and Kyogle twice in 2022. Mainly because the fair was discounted at the time i travelled. But i was able to get a nap in the seats due to the extra recline and leg room.

    The name New South Wales came from the journal of Lieutenant James Cook (later Captain Cook), who sailed up the east coast of Australia in 1770. He thought that the land looked like the south coast of Wales so he named it "New South Wales".

      He was never a naval captain, the Admiralty promised promotion but never actually fullfilled their promises, when he died his wife was refused a pension

    It's called New South Wales because Captain Cook, the leader of the first British expedition to the area, thought the coastline resembled that of South Wales..

    The XPT in Australia are iconic trains that are our cousin to the Class 43 HSTs in the UK. And how those trains are kept in good condition.

    I think the reason why people travel in "first class" is not because of the slightly extra legroom and reclining seats but to get away from all the druggies/weirdos/bogans that travel in economy. I myself have travelled in economy class many times and seen all kinds of unsavoury characters on that train. Hence that's why I choose to fly. But I guess if people want to sit back and watch the scenery go by then by all means take the slow old Xpt.

    Your map follows the highway, but the train line has a much different route. Not that it really matters. Nice video.

    For some reason, the C & W inspired backing track you chose is made for impromptu boot-scooting up and down the XPT First Class Carriage aisle.
    Loving the XPT stories, by the way. Keep up the great work!

      @JoshGoesSlow  Před 2 měsíci +2

      Thanks so much! I have tried to do some regional towns and areas and have plans for some more (I have done Tamworth and blue mountains etc) but I’m finding my viewers seem to unsubscribe when I post those, so at the moment I am not too sure. I still have some planned, but will keep them to a minimum.

    At 186cm tall, I find the extra legroom in 'First Class' is worth the extra price, especially for long journeys. Not a fan of being cramped for so long. Hopefully the new trains will roll out soon, that replace the ageing XPT fleet.
