    In our quest for seeking out a more healthy and sustainable lifestyle, we made a plan that includes zero waste living, tiny house living and full-time travel. We considered buying an RV, looked at trailers and airstreams but settled on doing a bus conversion for our off the grid, tiny house on wheels. We bought a 1996 MCI 102 D3 coach bus and with the Bus Demolition behind us now we begin our Build!
    See our Bus Demolition series here: • Bus Demolition - Rehab...
    In its previous life, our MCI bus was used as a school bus, we don't think we can legitimately call it a skoolie. We are confident that converting our bus into a class a motor home will have challenges, but doing a massive overhaul and remodel on a motorhome / RV remodel didn’t seem to align with the off grid bus life we were aiming for.
    In Season 3 we share our tiny home design, construction trial and errors, zero waste improvements and travel adventures.

    Just a thought for you, next time you use the pocket hole jig, drill the holes on the INSIDE of the cabinet, that way the screws are hidden from view. Love the look of the TV and Fireplace cabinet and the idea of space saving drawers under your cabinets.

    • @Rehabit8
      @Rehabit8  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi Neil, we tried drilling holes inside but we’re unable to get a secure hold since the screws just came out of the end of the other board. I think with hardwood that would be the way to go but with plywood it didn’t seem like an option. I’ll do more tease him for the next ones though. Thanks for you comment and support

    G'day Guys you really went in to a baptism of fire on your first cabinet build, but now you know how to do the rest. The cabinet came out great love the fire place and good idea for the TV hidden when not in use, the only thing that I reckon you'll have trouble with is the leather straps that your using for handles, there is not enough grip to pull out a heavy draw you can't get your hand around them. Just a observation you did a lovely job of it glad to see you using the Kreg system that will be a fantastic tool to use for your cabinets, keep safe looking forward to the next instalment kind regards John Tasmania Australia

    Hi Mela, Hi Don. I think you got the TV mount wrong. the rectangular piece usually goes on the wall (here to back piece of the lift) and the 2 small metal strips with the security screws should be mounted on the TV. In this way you have more horizontal stability. This is at least how TV's are mounted to walls. I don't know about the TV-Lift. Could be different there. Other than that..... I love your videos, really like how you approach your projects. Thank you very much for sharing.

    • @Rehabit8
      @Rehabit8  Před 4 lety

      I’m not sure about wall mounts but this is how the tv Lift is set up. It may be confusing because we did not attach the pieces that you put on the back of the TV yet as we are not setting it up yet. But if you check out Touchstones website you’ll see it’s right. Glad you enjoy our videos Ray! Thanks for the support

    Oh I wanted to ask about the removal of the heating and cooling system in the cargo bays did you half a separate system on the heat for the driver defrost system and remove the coach heat only?
    Or did you have to splice it back together? Thanks

    • @Rehabit8
      @Rehabit8  Před 4 lety +1

      It’s separate, the defrost is as soon as you walk into the bus on the right of the stairs. As far as we understand it is not connected to the cooling system. We’ve heard of people actually removing this too and replacing it with a trucks defrost unit. But I don’t think we are going to do that.

    • @Rehabit8
      @Rehabit8  Před 2 lety

      The finished video comes out next week. We have a 27 inch currently, but made it to be able to accommodate something a little bit bigger so we will probably upgrade to a larger size in the future. Our TV Lift can hold up to 50 inches, but we'll probably be able to fit 32 inch

    • @sallytamayo6288
      @sallytamayo6288 Před 2 lety

      @Rehabit8 thank you for your reply, I’m not sure how I would go about fitting a 43inch to your design, I suppose making the shelves smaller in width, but that kinda throws off all the other measurements.

  • @imjustsaying...3720
    @imjustsaying...3720 Před 4 lety

    that the beauty of using pocket holes is that you assemble the boards with the pocket holes on the inside of the cabinet where you won't see them. Therefore, you don't need to go back and fill the pocket holes before painting. I'm surprised that your woodworking friend didn't teach you that while recommending the glue or helping with the computer design. Not to be negative, but based on your admitted skill level and lack of wood working experience, there is no way that you came up with detailed plans alone. I get the fact that you want to sell the plans online, but I know several experienced woodworkers with years of experience that don't have the skills to develop a computer generated set of plans. If you actually did those my plans yourself, then you can easily make hundreds of dollars teaching online classes! The fact there is another logo inside the Title Block gives away the fact that you didn't design it yourself as claimed in the video, You just provided the parameters for the cabinet. I don't if the mistake of the fireplace mot fitting inside the box that you built was a computer plan error, or that you miss-cut both of the braces. Norm Abram always stated to "Measure twice, cut once" and "There is no more important safety issue, than wearing these (eye protection)" while pointing to his eyes.

    • @Rehabit8
      @Rehabit8  Před 4 lety

      Hi I’m just saying. We’re not selling the plans online, just giving them away for anyone who they might help. I (Don) am really good with software so I learned Fusion 360 the week before and then watched lots of cabinet making videos to see what the best practices seemed to be.
      I do have some online classes I teach and I produce music for commercials, film and trailers and share my experience there.
      Learning things for our bus conversion is our hobby so not looking to sell plans but I do appreciate that you think they have value :)
      We didn’t get any advice on pocket holes but after research we needed to have the holes on the out side of the cabinet or there would have been nothing for them to screw into (screws going out into the ends of the other boards were not sturdy. I hope to learn more about poker holes in future builds so I will have to do more research.

    • @imjustsaying...3720
      @imjustsaying...3720 Před 4 lety

      @@Rehabit8 The angle of the screw hole is why you place them on the inside. Weight transfers from the top horizontal plane down to the vertical supports (sides) and will cause them to bow outwards. With the pocket holes on the outside, they are in alignment with the stress and could actually pull out of the horizontal top board. This is also dependent on where the pocket screw is located either in the growth rings or the fiber of the wood. The majority of woodworkers will evenly space the pocket holes, while others (OCD) will actually align the pocket holes so that they hit the wood fiber between the growth rings. (Much like those who mark both sides of boards for biscuit joinery). It all boils down to experience/failure and attention to detail. The main reason that pocket holes are placed on the inside of a corner is the angle of the screw is perpendicular to the load stress being placed on the vertical boards and have a less chance of pulling apart. The added benefit is that you don't have to patch, fill, sand the pocket holes.
