  • Foods for constipation to relieve chronic constipation for good. This Physiotherapy guide teaches you the foods to avoid with constipation and the best fiber diet to prevent constipation long-term. The best foods to relieve constipation if you’re already constipated aren’t high fiber foods. High fiber diets can make existing constipation worse. Having the correct fiber intake helps you prevent constipation however if you're already constipated there are some simple steps to take to your bowels moving well again.

Stool softener foods to choose: • Natural Stool Softener...
Correct bowel emptying technique: • Natural Constipation R...
Chronic constipation is a problem that’s often linked to eating the wrong foods in your diet. You may find that you can temporarily relieve constipation using laxative medication only to find that you become constipated again. Your diet plays a major role in overcoming chronic constipation along with getting regular exercise, adequate fluid intake and using the correct bowel emptying technique.
Fibre plays an essential role in bowel movement and preventing constipation. Insoluble fiber doesn’t break down completely during digestion. Insoluble fiber speeds up the movement of wastes through the bowel. Soluble fiber absorbs fluid in the bowel making your stool soft and easier to pass. Water is removed from waste in the bowel (large intestine) and as a result slow stool movement can cause the stool to dry out and become hard to shift (constipation).
Most healthy adults should consume 25-35 grams of fiber daily for bowel health (1). This fiber intake should involves a combination of soluble and insoluble fibre types. One of the biggest mistakes people commonly make is consuming a high fiber diet when they are already constipated and this can make constipation much worse. Sometimes the best way to relieve constipation is to temporarily reduce your high fibre intake, clear your bowel of hard stool and then gradually reintroduce fiber into your diet according to how well you tolerate it. Working out the right amount of fiber in your diet for your system may take some trial and error. Try to maintain good fluid intake (around 6-8 glasses of water) and regular exercise as part of your overall constipation management program.

Fluids, fluids, I don't care if it is coffee, Dr. Pepper, which by the way does have a laxative effect! But investing
in a juicer would be the best bet. Juice a few times a week or more, depending on how you react to the juices. less red meat and see what your body will do with
the right foods and less foods, always best! PS....The best juices to grind up are carrot, beet and apple!

You are one of the best content creators regarding these subjects. These are things my Dr never even mentioned. He just said take fiber, no distinction between the two types.
Just wanted to share something that helps me a lot. Drink water with your meal. I would suggest about 16oz depending on your size. Eat a few bites, drink, rinse and repeat. That will keep your food hydrated so as it passed and water is removed, it’s more likely to continue staying moist near the end of the colon. I also take a supplement that’s powder, mostly soluble fiber and when I am doing everything right, everything comes out so clean I dont even need to wipe.
Another note, if you eat soluble fiber, weather it be a supplement or a food like oatmeal, if you don’t drink enough water to keep that fiber hydrated, it will just dry up and make things worse.
So in addition to everything said in the video, I just had to add this….drink water. It may be difficult at first. But as you drink it and increase the volume, eventually your body will crave all that water. Cheers!

I’ve had issues for so many years, my mom said I was always constipated and straining even as a baby, then I struggled with addiction, unfortunately opioids which made it far worse, getting clean while taking suboxone kept the problem going, it’s been a consistent issue for a long time. What’s helped me so far was:
    1. An elevated foot stool for the toilet, I think it’s 7 inches to be in the ideal position to go.
    2. I drink lots of water right when I wake up (it’s hard when you feel bloated so I do what I can and don’t overdo it)
    3. I add boulder salt (electrolyte salts on Amazon) to my water so it doesn’t run right through me.
    4. I learned my digestive enzymes are low so I supplement with those before a fatty meal.
    5. I’ve tried all kinds of enemas/suppositories, saline enemas ended up helping the most in emergency situations, but everyone is different, just make sure you’re WELL hydrated whatever you choose because a lot of them pull water into the stool to soften it, which can leave you dehydrated, ALSO doing gentle stomach massages while on toilet with feet elevated helped things move around, move clockwise in circular motions, CZcams has some good videos on this, it made a huge difference in output during enemas for me.
    6. It got so bad one time I went to the hospital (they did nothing) so I went in for a colonic somewhere in LA, took my bloodwork and hospital paperwork with me and asked questions, that’s how I learned my digestive enzymes were low, it was expensive but imo worth it, I wouldn’t do it too often because I would think it could throw off good bacteria over time.
    7. The Dr from the colonic place also suggested magnesium bicarbonate (after subtly bashing every electrolyte powder I told him I’d tried) per his advice I buy mine from LivePristine, they have premade bottles of liquid, or a tub of powder that you mix in with carbonated water let go flat and drink. It’s expensive but the powder lasts a long time, & you can make it in bulk, you just take 2 oz nightly (also helps heartburn, sleep, and stress)
I’m still trying to figure out what foods are causing me so much trouble and am over 1/2 way done tapering off my suboxone, still struggle with some bloating and everything isn’t perfect but I haven’t had any ER visits, or pain that makes me fear my stomach is tearing open. I’ve had fissures in the past and hernias, be careful not to overuse any laxative/enema/suppository medications and always try not to strain. Just elevate your feet lean back and massage your stomach. Gentle stretching/yoga videos for bowel mobility. Be kind to yourself and patient, you will figure it out 💕
^ This isn’t advice just what’s worked for me, if my situation is similar to anyone’s I’d like to share what helped me, but really everyone’s different and for every problem there’s a solution, but different problems require different solutions. Hope everyone has a good day and a smooth movement 😄

Constipation is a multi faceted condition. As another commenter said, learn about gut motility, the process where your colon pushes the food/ faeces along. Some people have too slow motility = constipation. Where is the constipation ? At the back door ? Get gelatine suppositories, work a treat. or Blocked further up and nowhere near the exit, requires a different solutions. A home enema kit and salt water flushes have saved me multiple times. I go from feeling ill and poss very low to well and happy within a couple of hours. I have recently taken out refined cards and starches ( bread, pasta, rice etc ) and that has helped. Discovered last year , by accident, Im allergic to bananas and avocados. Learn yourself and how digestion works. I had a perfect bowel motion a week ago ( rare) and I felt like a champ. That is how powerfully our digestion and pooping impacts the way we feel.

I struggled with constipation for years until I started having a morning smoothie and it cured everything. What I blend every morning is 2-3 bananas, a large handful of greens (spinach leaves, lettuce, etc), a cup or more of blueberries, and water or plant based milk. It’s delicious and keeps everything working great. I used to also include oatmeal in the blender but it only made things worse.

I appreciate you, also, mentioning how we need to slowly re-introduce fiber back in. I may have been introducing it too quickly.... it's so difficult to eat low fiber after years of homemade veggie and whole grain dishes. I might mention that eating high protein and fat while going low fiber can slow digestion to a halt; at least it does for me.

Since thousands of years (Egypt!) the optimal manner to overcome not only occasional constipation but chronic constipation too naturally will be taking castor oil. Remember that castor oil is the only laxative that will not work in the intestines by irritating them, but by activating and synthesizing certain substances in the human body. So any habituation of the human body or diminishing laxative effect is absolutely impossible and castor oil is suitable in a special manner for chronic constipation. Take 1 tablespoon (15 ml) castor oil early in the morning on an empty stomach; eventuelly later a second tablespoon castor oil

It drives me CRAZY to see so much regurgitated advise on alleviating constipation by using high fibers, lots of water, magnesium exercises and less processed foods. We ALL should know that by adulthood, but NOBODY ADVISES AGAINST high fibers while you’re constipated. Anyone giving our advise about this subject should be warming people what should be taken, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHAT SHOULD BE AVOIDED WHILE SOMEONE IS STILL “BACKED UP”. Thank you SO MUCH for such an important lesson on high fiber foods and how they effect the colon when one is constipated!🙏🏼😭

I have been constipated my whole life - but I never feel pain because of it.
I now understand that as soon as I have a little bit of gluten - I get constipated. I think there are more foods that might trigger it for me. If I eat lots of veggies, it gets worse for example.
If I eat lots of meat - I absorb almost all of it and don't really have much waste at all coming out.
I take a prebiotic blend of 8 different prebiotic fibers, and that is working great for me.
I also found out that a long walk - is usually helping me as well, so implementing more movement can be very beneficial if you are struggling with constipation.

Chia seeds are the best. Not the best type of omega-3 but they have a very high percentage of omega-3 And are also keto and low-carb friendly. If you put about 3 tablespoons with a cup or a cup and a half of almond milk and a little stevia and just stirred a few times in the first couple hours and let it sit for five or six hours or overnight it makes an awesome pudding. It’s basically like tapioca pudding you can add blueberries or a little strawberry or vanilla and it taste great. I’ll eat half of that with my first meal of the day and it makes everything work really well as far as constipation goes and is great for you. Eat a very high vegetable sort of clean version of keto with no inflammatories like grains so you have to eat a lot of nuts and Chia seed broccoli also seems to help but I think what she said about eating it together is important, Eat lots of kale and spinach and dark leafy greens brussels sprouts asparagus artichoke broccoli cauliflower zucchini lots of avocado and some and onions with reasonable amounts of meat, 4 to 6 ounces depending on what it is, but a lot of keto diet or keto friendly foods aren’t really all that great for you you don’t wanna eat too much meat you just want to get the right amount of fats and proteins, but with eating all of those dark green vegetables you’re getting a ton of that kind of fiber so you really need to add the Chia seeds or something along those lines but that’s my go to because they’re not fattening they’re incredibly healthy they’re great for hydration they’re great for your skinI know it’s only a platform they’re very high on the omega-3’s, that she has had pudding is really easy to eat and usually I just eat it while I’m cooking.
Another thing with constipation is hydration and the mistake doctors always tell you to drink more water but if you’re constipated you already know that you’re already drinking a lot of water, but you can drink too much water. This whole nonsense about eight glasses of water a day is a bit much unless you’re outside working hard physically and sweating a lot, 6 foot tall man only needs 3 to 4 glasses of water a day but you have to balance your electrolytes, that’s what hydration is, And that’s critical with constipation. Just drinking more water will not hydrate you it can actually make the dehydration worse because it washes the minerals out which are the electrolytes and your body isn’t getting the water it needs so it pulls it out of your colon which makes it dryer which makes it more constipated, and without the electrolytes there’s also an issue with the muscles in your colon and part of the way it digest is contracting and expanding which keeps mixing that food come out when you’re dehydrated it’s not doing that nearly as much and that’s all about magnesium and potassium and sodium and chloride so you need to have a good balance, using electrolytes within reason is great, usually I just add a little bit of salt to a gallon of light green tea with a lemon in it and that’s what I’ll drink over a couple of days, Also cutting back on salt can dehydrate you if you’re eating healthy salt isn’t a problem for high blood pressure and your heart and especially if you’re eating healthy with the keto diet where you’re utilizing fats and proteins balanced with good vegetables all of your body signals work incredibly well if you have enough salt your body won’t like the taste as much or crave it and it will tell you how much to eat. But on the most important things you can do for constipation also is fasting 16 or 18 hours a day. Eat your meals within a six hour period and go at least 16 or 18 hours without eating but make sure you’re getting those electrolytes and that allows your body to digest everything and move it through without overloading your system I just having a constant stream of food moving through you come in if you’re getting the right balance of fat and all those dark green vegetables your body is going to be very satisfied and you will not feel hungry and all of those cravings go away so it’s very easy to do but it’s very healthy. You need to do that so your body eats its own waste detoxes gets rid of excess calcium from injured and remodeled bones and helps the collagen build bone and replace it that’s when you’re burning stored fat and being able to give your food that time to digest without just cramming it through with a ton of food behind it along with a good electrolyte balance and the water soluble fibers is exactly how to get rid of it. People who do keto diet train just to lose weight and her eating garbage food and too much meat and are just counting carbs often get constipation and everybody blames that on keto but it’s more about the lack of electrolytes and there’s nothing better you can do for constipation then get your electrolytes and keep your cool and hydrated but I think she is seeds are awesome and they fit pretty much any diet you can eat them straight if you want they don’t have a lot of flavor and they taste kind of like a sunflower seed but really tiny you can put them in almost anything if you put it in the liquid it will absorb it and kind of thicken up, You can also grind the Chia seed up which is actually better for you I just throw it in water for just about any kind of food and that and electrolytes on pretty much any diet will fix constipation but you still need the non-soluble fibers also they create mass and the Chia seeds do that to an extent but that mass forces your colon to expand it’s kind of like exercising it and it keeps it working better and then you’re all good. I know I’m rambling but it’s been hours and hours and hours studying this stuff. But more important than any of these is balance your electrolytes which is proper hydration just drinking a bunch more water isn’t going to fix anything unless you’re just not drinking any water in the first place but water flushes out the minerals so you have to replenish those minerals to get a good electrolyte drops or electrolyte powder and put that in your water and make sure you’re getting plenty of magnesium and potassium in your food and that you are eating enough salt, usually your food is going to have enough magnesium and potassium if you’re eating healthy but sodium goes out pretty quickly so I didn’t half a teaspoon to a gallon of water is a great idea, you won’t really taste it much it will be a tiny taste but the other thing will do is also quench your thirst more when you drink it your throat won’t feel dry still and you’ll feel more satisfied if it keeps happening then you need to get and electrolyte powder or drops and put that in your water, That’s without question the most important part no matter what kind of foods you eat if you don’t do that you’re going to get plugged up.

I've tried increasing fiber as everyone wants to tell you, see-sawed on and off laxatives, even had my PCP prescribe Linzess, all to no avail. I drink 64 ounces of water a day (along with coffee and tea) and have no relief. I will try your recommendation to reduce the fiber, try to get cleared out with an OTC laxative and then ease back into a soluble fiber intake. tip 2 prevent constipation by having high fiber food when you're not constipated.
so fix the problem from its root or it will keep rermerging the recommended fiber intake goes from 24-35 gram per day.
