That's a great method if there aren't any lugs or rims to attach onto. I use a shorter strap, sewn directly onto my drum (under two lugs) and then half-wrap it around my drum to support it, and I can swing it around my back, too.
I got mine from a drum shop at the KC Rennaisance festival, it was actually more of a "Here you need this" sort of buy, it came along with my first djembe :) i'll need to make a video on how to strap a djembe upright style now that you mention it :D Thanks!
Lugs would indeed make it easier :) i prefer to keep my drum clean for the sake of lap playing. not that it makes a huge difference, guess I'm a purist. :p thanks for watching :D
