  • Here's a video of us grinding feed with a John Deere 2355 and a Gehl 95 Grinder Mixer. The feed is a corn based mixture that also contains dried distiller's grains as well as several nutrients and minerals. For feeding, it is added to the silage and haylage mixture that is fed to our cattle year-round.

    I had a Gehl 135 mill with a scale that I used to make different mixes for our cattle but most were oats, barley, corn and soybeans plus minerals. I think the Gehl mills are by far the best on the market and the later ones like I had were all hydraulic drive which was very reliable and easy to use. I wouldn't want a mill without a scale either because it's the only way to keep your mixes consistent.

    I used to do that with a 4020. Corn, Oats, Soybeans, and minerals.

    Hi Farm Grown, Country Strong, Great video. Really enjoyed it. So much I have liked it and subscribed to your channel. I particually like at 1:00 seeing the grinding feed with a John Deere 2355 and a Gehl 95 Grinder Mixer.
    I thought you put the point across well of the basics. I was as I was growing up raised on a mixed farm of arable, pigs and beef. Like yourself I like sharing skills and knowledge. i have had apprentices and young people work with me. To share some of my knowledge I have set up my own you tube channel about farm maintenance. You should check out. Well many thanks for a great video. Keep the good work up. Look forward to future videos.

    Is that a dryer where the corn kernel comes out of? Plus, feed mixing needs exact weight measurement for nutrients content percentage. And how will you measure the weight of corn that pours out from tank?

      @farmgrowncountrystrong  Před 2 lety

      On the grinder mixer there is windows that serve as gauges for the amount of feed in there. There is a blower fan on the grain bin for drying, but I believe it is hidden in this video.

    Did your 2355 have a hard time grinding that feed???? I’m actually looking to buy a tractor FOR grinding feed and I’m not sure if I could get away with using a 70-80 HP tractor or if I need a 90-100 HP tractor. Also money is the driving factor haha. If I had lots of money obviously I would get the 100HP tractor.

    I need help everyone! I want to buy an international and grinds good just damaged unload auger, will the unload auger be fixed and would it be expensive to fix it?

    • @farmgrowncountrystrong
      @farmgrowncountrystrong  Před 7 lety

      I guess it really depends on the parts needed and their availability?

    • @jaybaker9684
      @jaybaker9684 Před 5 lety

      If its bearings its inexpensive just a real pain in the rear to change if you have never done one if the auger and flightins is worn out well then it get pricey better off just having a new one made then repairing old flighting imo new shaft flightung and if your that deep already touch up any weak spots holes and replace the bearing good luck

    I know you should use the right tools for the project at hand and this is probably a stupid question but do you think this could chop/grind large pine bark into smaller "nuggets"? I realize I'd need a bigger screen but I might be able to get my hands on a Gehl 95 pretty cheap. I can get the large pine bark by the tractor trailer load dirt cheap but the small pine nuggets cost a premium even in bulk.

    • @farmgrowncountrystrong
      @farmgrowncountrystrong  Před 5 lety +1

      I honestly wouldn't recommend it. I don think it would handle inside the bin at all. Maybe you could try just a regular wood chipper?

    • @zaappp1588
      @zaappp1588 Před 5 lety +1

      Thanks. The problem is that only small chippers that handle 4 inch limbs usually have a feed chute that you could dump large bark nuggets into. The bigger ones have more of a feed table which is not made for dumping material in. I suppose I could fabricate a feed chute but larger chippers get expensive fast.
