  • Making the first batch of feed with the Gehl 100. It's a work in progress with plenty of work left to do. The old Gehl hasn't been taken very good care of and it will take me a little time to get it in good working condition. But I was able to get a little cow feed made. Hope the heifers like it.

Thanks a lot sir for showing us the work and worries that go into making our food . Many people think that food comes from supermarkets, but that is an illusion . May God bless you and all country folks that work to make our daily food…You are the salt of the earth best to you and your family and stay healthy,,,❤❤❤

I used a Gehl 100 for years that I also ran off a JD 3020. It works great. Nothing more satisfying to me than grinding feed. It is one of my favorite chores on the farm.

There is something satisfying about making your own feed. We had a Gehl, they are good machines and I’m sure you’ll get all the bugs worked out of it.
Yeah that 3020 handled it just fine.

I used to love to go to the feed mill and be around the feed being ground. The smell is amazing!! I need to pull the bottom auger out and have some work done to it. A couple more holes to patch and I think it will be fine.

I scooped many a bushel of ear corn into a Gehl grinder mixer when I was a kid. For several years we powered it with a 70 John Deere; then a 1650 Oliver. We got to enjoy a little diversion by smashing mice that ran out of the corn crib. The ones that got away would be properly dispatched by our little black terrier, Pepper. I see you have one of the "newer" grinders with hydrostatic motor-driven augers rather than mechanical drive ones. Have you yet checked the hammers in the mill to see if they are worn to the point of needing to be turned?

Gehl made the best grinder/mixers. The thin hammers take less HP, and you don't need a bigger screen for ear corn. Well made and easy to fix. Flip your hammers if they have much radius on them, and you will see an improvement.

Thanks! I know very little about feed grinders, but this one seemed pretty simple. It does a good job and a lot less moving parts than some others. Thanks for watching!!

the hammers can be made by any welding shop with a shear and hole puncher. there just a carbon steel hammer 1/8"-3/16" thick.

Looks like you got a good machine that just needs a little TLC. We had a Gehl many years ago, older than yours, that we eventually traded on a New Holland 352, which we sold 24 years ago when I got rid of the cattle. my wife wants me to get some cattle again, so I may be in the market for another one some day.
