      I hope so too. Hoonigan was special because they had corporation-sized budget but made content like a bunch of knuckleheads who love cars.
      We probably won’t see that happen ever again, but if the former Hoonigan and adjacent CZcamsr hosts could all build a new culture of content in the same vein (but on a smaller scale) then the value given to the global car enthusiast culture will be immeasurable.
      I think if anyone can pull it off, it’s Vin.

      Does anyone have some insights on why hoonigan has gone to shit? Everybody is talking about that it's since they belong to wheelpros but I had the feeling it was already going down beforehand. Also why wheelpros has allegedly such a bad influence on their content? Why specifically? And why did they sell the shop?
      So many questions and sadly they don't seem to care enough about their original fanbase to explain it themselves..

    • @ADSImagens
      @ADSImagens Před 7 měsíci

      Basically you're right. They were sold to Wheel Pros and after that things've changed. You have to understand that before that it was Ken and Brian that defined the kind of crazy content that we know for years. So now that they sold the company they have to follow rules put by the buyers that don't want the "Hoonigan" kind of content. Is more "arbitruary" and "responsable". And for the worst they started to doing the worst brand deals with huge car companies in the "This vs. That" like that Kia EV vs. Ferrari. We don't even have the crew working on cars anymore. So the guys that were part of the series basically quit and started their own things. What Wheel Pros didn't realized is that Hoonigan is not only a brand, is the people behind the scene and in front of the camera. @@Harry_Gersack

    • @Harry_Gersack
      @Harry_Gersack Před 7 měsíci +1

      @@ADSImagens hmm responsible is not the first thing for me that comes to mind when thinking about how the content has changed. For me it feels like the videos are lower effort and more for the broad masses and not for the real car guys anymore. I know renting an airport or building a dirt track is not the least effort you can put in a video. But I see it like that: they rent the location and then they do the races and in one day they can get content for like 10 videos or so. I think compared to the hoonage and scumbaggery we know from years ago, that this is a easy way for them to make content.
      And from a technical perspective the videos have gotten really shallow. Not the true car guy content anymore. Probably helps to reach more viewers..
      On the other hand I've recently rewatched a view daily transmissions from the donut garage and some of them had much more views than the videos from now

    You are doing the thing already. You are a part of the automotive cultural phenomenon that was Hoonigan. You stay connected with your friends from there, you buy cars because of your passion, you have your own unique perspective, and you're used to talking to camera. My deepest hope is that the lot of you guys all figure out that your contributions to that entity are valuable on their own as well and deserve their own deep dives. The "Oh, that's just Vin being Vin" or "Scotto being Scotto" brush offs to keep to the Hoonigan format doesn't apply anymore. You've got the content built in, and people will either stay because they enjoy it or not. Stop caring about what you think people want and just do you. And bring a camera. The rest will sort itself out. The happiest content creators are the most genuine ones. Hell, we saw Suppy smile today.

    You are in a unique position compared to other CZcamsrs and that is, your viewers are invested in you as a person. Your time on Hoonigan gave us all a chance to get to know you and feel as if you're a "friend" so to be honest, most of us are just curious what you're doing on a day-to-day. CZcams viewers are a voyeuristic bunch and we enjoy living vicariously thru the lives of people we relate to, & the same is especially true for car guys. We can't afford all the cars we really want so we enjoy watching others do it. Unfortunately for you that means you should just be a vlogger. Show us what you're doing. Even if it seems boring and mundane to you, it's a distraction from our own boring lives to watch how you live yours. I'm sure I speak for a lot of your fans when I say, we're just curious how you make a living playing with cars since that's all any of us really want to do ourselves. The other thing I'll say is, take advantage of your relationships with the OG Hoonigan crew and introduce us to your other car guy personalities. There are 2 keys to a successful CZcams channel; being good at what you do (I think that counts you out as a car builder ;-) sorry) and being an entertaining personality (that's your bread and butter). Jimmy Oakes channel does well because he's pretty good at both but where he really shines is his crew of friends that all seem to be having a good time playing with cars. Show us you and your friends having a good time playing with cars. We'll watch that, promise.

    Hit the nail on the head on multiple fronts. The struggle is real with having the car and having to think about the "what ifs" before every drive or having to think about if there is safe parking near your destination. Makes jumping in a Raptor or overland Cayenne Diesel the decision 9 time out of 10.

    Vin this video was dope! Fresh breathe of air, there’s so many people like me who loved the info you gave us, I’d watch anything you would drop, but the unplanned , not corny , automotive CZcamsr style is perfect and dope! I’d love to hear why you keep buying raptors too! Looking forward to that video. You are super relatable and human and just yourself but have so much knowledge and great car content it made me love it. Take your time with your channel it’s going to workout great ❤👏🏾 Also I’d love to hear you ramble about getting sponsorships and how brand deals work on the business side of automotive YT . I’ve never been afraid of high mileage, as long as there are good service records. One of my best used car purchases was maintained by a DIY mechanic that had clipboards with dates, mileage, what was done, etc, hanging in his garage for each of his 3 cars. I was very comfortable buying his C63s with 135k miles over 5 years. He did most of the maintenance himself, but every 6 months he brought it to MB to do an inspection - which was on the Carfax.
    I sold the car at 180k, and it was still running like a champ, and I adopted his record keeping and inspections for all my nicer cars.

    To your point of the cost of insuring/crashing at the track...once upon a time I used to roadrace motorcycles, and I was told "never put anything on track you're not 100% ok with crashing." It's always way more fun if you're not worried about doing something to what's underneath you, so deciding to skip that track day was absolutely the right call.

    Honestly Vin, as an older enthusiast in his 30s, I appreciate the more academic side of car culture and ownership, and it's interesting and thought provoking to hear other people's thoughts on it, yours in particular. I know you probably don't want to become the wise Yoda of the car world, and I would be lying if I said I wasn't pumped to see more content on purchasing, modifying, and driving sick builds of all types, but having a video every now and then where you/the channel explores the philosophical side of car stuff is actually pretty based.

    This was a great video, so good i subscribed based on this alone. Anyone who tells you that you shouldn’t own this car or can’t afford to own it because you won’t track it or do stupid shit with it can go pound sand. What is so wrong with owning a high value super or classic car, and not wanting to depreciate it because you “care’ about the car?, you’re attached to it in emotional way, and while many people who are not car enthusiasts won’t ever get this, cars are not just “tools” to some. If you’ve spent half your life of dreaming about owning a 997 GT3RS (as some of us have) and you finally get one, it’s OK not to want to abuse it, or wax it 20 times, or just stare at in the garage for 2 hours while you drink a 6 pack of IPA’s (ask me how i know). I respect immensely that you mention “driving the car” though and not just keeping the mileage super low for depreciations reasons, that’s a legit mindset I wish more Porsche owners would live by. It blows the mind how many used 997 or even 991’s for sale with crazy low mileage, it should be a crime. All this said, when someone says you can’t afford or don’t deserve to own a super car like the RS, unless your unwilling to crash it, or devalue it in some meaningless way, they’re just jealous. It’s like taking the Porsche to dinner only at restaurant’s where you can park and see the car while eating, never using valet, or parking in the one space where nobody can park next to you, these are all legit behaviors, because getting a door ding repaired (which is automatic) means every time you look at that panel or door you know there was a fix there, and it will bother you doesn’t mean you don’t deserve the car….If you care about your car enough to make these kinds of rational decisions, even when you’re a bazillionaire, it probably means you made your own way, and worked hard to get there. Guys who abuse or mistreat their cars, house, or possession’s are usually handed these things, either by inheritance, windfall, or doing stuff they know is crooked or wrong. Keep up the great content, and don’t ever feel like doing stupid stuff with your pride and joy is needed to get likes, views or subscribers. Making great content like this is the right path 👍

    Loved the video. Good pacing, not 10 minutes of some super blown out crappy trap beat, got to the points cleanly. I would personally love to hear more about the non-mechanical aspects of being a car enthusiast. Picking insurance, finding a quality shop for your specialized vehicles, how much cost is actually too much, the best and worst parts of being a car guy, etc. All could be great and I think you could offer some great perspective. Look forward to the next video! You got this!

    Great video bro! Awesome info.
    Another helpful thing to spot so-so paint jobs, get the sill of the car to eye level, like on a lift is best but laying down works too. They painted the car standing so the lower body usually gets the least attention. Seen it on two cars I’ve owned that looked great in normal perspective but on the lift, all was revealed! Keep the vids coming man!

    I do have to say of all my cats I’ve owned my 93 r2 was my favorite, I was paying 650 a month payment and 450ish a month insurance, but I was young working construction, had a beater truck for work and I lived at my moms house, all the other guys kept blowing theirs up, I kept it stock except for better radiator, a better intercooler, upgraded brake pads, some racing pedals and that was it, I wanted to get jdm parts and carbon fiber parts but in the late 90’s the internet wasn’t what it is now, parts were very hard to find. Plenty of engine upgrade were available mostly bolt ons. It’s still one of the most beautiful cars ever made, it made you feel like a pro driver on the track, it had excellent suspension from the factory, it was like you could feel the road through the wheel, its slip angle and break angles were so smooth and progressive you never had suprise snap oversteer and even the rare understeer was easy to correct, if I ever get another I won’t run a rotary, I’ve had 4 rx7’s every generation and while I love the zero vibration free reving rotary motor, the balance from the tiny and light motor has to be very hard to replicate, but man it got hot very quick especially the turbo, only car I’ve seen with a exhaust temp warning, it takes special tools and it’s all unique parts except for plugs and a few other non motor components, the mileage is atrocious, it pollutes like crazy, and I’m not interested in having I rebuild the engine every 30k miles or less especially if you track it. There are just so many engine options that are more reliable make more power easily, maybe I’ll swap a 3.8 V8 from a a Ferrari, they are light, free reving and 400 reliable hp that doesn’t want I melt the car every time I take it to the track is appealing. I know the aluminum LS swaps are popular but I think part of the RX7’s appeal was its free reving motor and silky smooth drive train. Unless I come across an FD Spirit R Bathhurst edition the I’d leave it rotary, but I wouldn’t track it, probably lol.
