It is believed that the bigger the pig, the better the year you'll have, so it's quite competitive among those folks. The highest record was that in the year 2012, the prize pig was raised to 1061 kilograms (~1.17 ton). Despite the criticisms on force feeding and animal cruelty, this tradition is still going strong.
