You did it Dave! It really looks the biz and needed the white to set it off. Great upgrade and video plus see you tonight, Jersey Bill.

FYI, the size of the resistor doesn't make it old, it's needed so you don't burn your resistor out. Those small little carbon based resistors with the colored stripes wouldn't be able to sustain the current draw from the track for a long amount of time. The whole point of the resistor is to knock the voltage down at the motor so it doesn't spin super fast as you saw when you put the 9V battery across the new motor.

Fantastic conversion, Dave. Revitalized that nicely!

Excellent! I have one of these I want to power. The "newer" motorized ones had a gear reduction to control the fan speed, but that was before DCC.

Another excellent vid. Sweet looking blower! I and sending you a mental "pat on the back!" I have always considered purchasing a rotary snow plow and am now convinced that it will be a great addition to my fleet. Thank you sir!

Nice job, Dave! I have one of those old Athearn rotary plows. I got it at a train show. The motor was long gone! I never thought about putting a motor and decoder in it, though! Might have to do that one 'a these days!

This is not a commentary on YOUR painting, just painting in general. If you have a 3d resin printer with a wash system, the wash system is a tank you fill with IPA and set a timer. The wash generates a flow which surrounds and cleans the pieces. This is also excellent for washing plastic and metal train parts. If you do not have a resin printer, as a model railroader, you life is not complete. After the IPA wash, replace with warm soapy water with a splash of vinegar. (Both liquids can be saved to be reused several times.) This, in general, makes the plastic a bit more porous. Apply a primer. I would recommend Tamiya rattle can if you do not have an air brush. Informal rule is never paint light colors (white, yellow, red, etc.) over black. So prime with white or light grey. Thin your acrylic with both water and an acrylic medium. (available at hobby/paint stores like Hobby Lobby etc.) Use multiple THIN coats to build up color density. (especially important for using a brush to avoid leaving stroke marks.) This will also give a more natural faded effect for weathering. This is from many decades of experience and watching many videos available in the internet. Figure painting is very informative. You will love the results. Also, as it may be a labor of love, take your time! Good things come to those who wait!

I thought about using my air brush, but I had already procrastinated for over two months. I do have all the resin equipment you mentioned.

@@ScottRails Sometimes the rattle can is so much less work. I have started using them more often as the climate where I live tends to dry the acrylic too fast and disrupts airbrushing even with a flow improver. The can, while much more expensive, is easy. Army painter tends to have some just right colors for a price. If you use the resin wash, I find that making a screen basket makes it very convenient for smaller parts.

@@anthonymunoz6013 Agree with less work comment. Only advantages with airbrush I can see are the ability to mix your own colours and better control for detailed work. Rattle cans and masking tape do most everything I need and no complicated paint thinning or airbrush clean up required.

I think that giant resistor was supposed to slow down the motor so the plow blades would rotate at a much more realistic speed and not look like a airplane propeller or a fan.

Yes, that makes sense. Don't need it with the DCC decoder.
