QUOTES:
“If we could just get people to focus on the process of the habits that make a healthy lifestyle rather than the results, then I think the results will take care of themselves.” Drew Manning [2:43]
“If you cut 500 calories a day down, you will lose a pound of body fat a week, it's actually not true in any way, shape or form. It's not the total number of calories, that's important. It's what your body does with those calories. And that depends on hormones” Dr. Jason Fung [8:58]
“Once you understand your physiology and your physical, physical response to just the seeing of food, you can begin to navigate and control those urges a little bit more.” Liz Josefsburg [11:57]
“ You don't have to experience pain and hunger to get the benefits of fasting and to go into fasting.” [17:03]
“Intermittent fasting will help everybody, even on a complete crap diet. However, you'll be more hungry during an intermittent fast if you eat crap.” [20:56]
“Fasting the same way every day is bad for you. Because it doesn't lend your body the idea of metabolic flexibility.” [22:45]
“The mental, emotional, and even spiritual side are all parallel. And like, there has to be a complete transformation. Otherwise, it's just going to be a diet that people do for 30 or 60 days.” [35:08]

What has been your biggest hurdle with weight loss? How did you overcome it OR how do you plan to overcome it now?
For me it was consistency...I've now lost 140+ lbs by being consistent. That's not to say I haven't slipped up, but I get back to what has worked fasting & low carb(carnivore).
I make choices daily most times they are great choices other times not so much, but I try to make a conscious effort to make better choices every.single.day.
Show up daily for yourself.
Biggest hurdle: mindfulness in habits Solution: make healthier choices convenient
My biggest hurdle is late night snacking. Typically nuts... walnuts, pecans, almond blend. Being a post menopausal woman I also struggle with sleep. I wake up multiple times during the night and never get more than 2 hours of uninterrupted sleep.
I've lost 35 kg in 8 months but now I am stuck for 3 months on 160-161 kgs. Made some changes to the thinks I eat and how I train, but can't seem to lose more. Not giving up, sticking to it, but I am not gonna lie: it's frustrating. Good to see I can stay consistent with my weight after 45 yrs, but rather see that happen when I am down to 105kg (being a 2.03m tall dude 😁)
@@Tattsandtunes have you ever tried white noise for deeper sleep?
“You’ll watch an entire Netflix series even when the first episodes are slow just because someone told you that “it gets better” but what if you looked at your goals like that and watched your life get better instead?”
🔥
I love that! ❤
@Vienna Sausage Great to hear that! Slow and steady :)
Damn
So true, we have to choose to choose wisely! When you start making more good choices over bad choices or best choices over just good choices. Love you Dr. Jason Fung!
1. The single most important thing is consistency.
2. Start small. Make small changes start with letting go of fast food and junk food sodas
3. Exercise 3-5 times a week
4. Focus on changing the way you eat not losing weight
5. And super important find healthy foods that you like that’s you enjoy because if you don’t like what you eat you simply won’t sustain that eating habit
Thank you
Everything you said was what I followed with my own journey. What also helped me was also making sure that I got adequate sleep.
I've lost 40n pounds recently. The whole process is boiled down to calories in versus calories out
Thanks 😊
Be careful with exercise. Too much may increase cortisol and slow down fat burning. If you plateau, don't increase exercise to break through a this maybe the problem. I did this. After cutting exercise to walking, I started to drop easily.
Goodluck.
- I just want to let anyone who’s reading this, and going through a tough time know that it’s going to be okay. You’ll get through it! ✨
I second that. I was as miserable as I've ever been literally a couple weeks ago. Today I'm pumped about life. I don't know if this will work for you but it might be worth a shot. I was so frustrated and depressed I just started sprinting as hard and fast as I could. Felt better, than did the same thing every day up until now and walla.
👏👏👏🥰
Thank you so much
I remember the first time I looked in the mirror and said I love you to myself I bawled. I realized I didn't love myself and I really needed to. It's been process of progress.
That's power right there
😭😭😭
It's amazing)
Results are so powerful. See 1-2lbs fall off a week, you change your life to see those results. You see 1lb fall off a month...you quit eventually. I've lost 24lbs in the last 70 days and I never knew what being proud of myself felt like until now.
How
LOL? Its taken me 3 long years of serious exerce and diet changes just to lose 20 pounds, reduce bmi and heal my hyper thyroidism. That's a ridiculously long time. And so with 20 more pounds to go to reach goal , some days I just get so discouraged and lose motivation- But what's the alternative. Can't give up the exercise and live on twinkies, right?
@@nancneumann4196 Maybe you should think of a new diet, like Ketogenetic diet, you will lose weight a lot faster probably.
"Maybe I can do hard things!" Yessss! That describes my journey. I started getting fit 5 years ago and a by product of changing my diet and lifting weights has been the shedding of the defeatist mindset.
Love that!
“People who wonder if the glass is half empty or full miss the point. The glass is refillable.” Sharing some positivity with ya all. Keep grinding I believe in you
The biggest lessons from my fat-loss journey⭐
1. Consistency is key. Stick to a diet and exercise regime that you can sustain.
2. If your calories expended (basal metabolic rate + activity) are GREATER than your calories consumed - you WILL lose weight. This is a simple matter of physics.
3. Mainly fill your diet with highly satiating, low-moderate calorie whole foods.
4. Ensure plenty of protein in your diet. Protein is the most satiating macronutrient. Lean meats, greek yoghurt, protein shakes, are good sources of protein.
5. Cognitive flexibility when dieting is important. If you have a day in which you overeat, it doesn't mean that you've ruined everything with your diet. Get back onto your normal eating routine. No need to throw the baby out with the bath water and go back to eating too much food.
I hope this helps!
Thank you ☺️
Learning to eat fat was probably the toughest hurdle. We have just been so indoctrinated that lowfat or non fat is the only way you can lose weight. 25 kilos later and I'm loving my healthy fats, seriously limit my carbs and cut out snacks and only eat once or twice a day. Feeling great. (mashallah)
The biggest thought thats helped me is that I can start again. Every day if I have to. I can do it better and go farther this time
Things I have learned in my fitness journey..
- drastic change will not be a sustainable change, eat food and workout in a way that suits you lifestyle and know you can sustain for the rest of your life
- focus on whole real food
- don't completely cut "bad food" just eat them in more rational way, bc if you cut them completely you will crave them more and burst eventually
- do workouts that YOU LOVE! and stick to it bc you love it
- DON'T EVER skip family and friends gathering bc number in scale is more important than you family, believe me! Don't do it just don't
- last but not least, know that it's a journey and continues work, not one month plan
All of the content in this vid is pure GOLD. I hope people realize how valuable this info is.
So true homie
i just needed this push to get stronger on the good habits I'm dealing with. thank you!
I intermittently fast till noon when I have work lunches or sometimes 4 pm if I do not have a lunch meeting. I eat once a day on those days I feel amazing

Thank you so much Tom , good to listen to this great conversation regarding all the Health tips 🙏❤️
Absolutely loved this video!! ❤️ I’ve watched many of those interviews at the time but it was awesome to get all of the excellent tips together at once 🙌. Thank you!!

thank you for this episode.
Beautiful! Thanks for this!
Awesome compilation..all key note in this episode !!
Thanks aton Tom. truly worth watching !! Be legendary 😇🙌🏼
Glad you enjoyed it!
I learned so much in these few minutes, I’m glad this video was suggested to me.
Get rid of the sugar and junk food and eating in between meals. The first few weeks I went through sugar withdrawals. Headaches, chills, sweats. Get some exercise and eat healthier foods. A lot is mental. If you have a slip up day it's okay, get back on the horse the next day and keep trying. Don't expect it to be quick. The tortoise beat the hare in the race.
Amazing inspiration. This is ground breaking and valuable information!
Thank you sooo much for this video Tom 💯🎯
I can attest this is all true. I have lost 40lbs since April on a journey: lowcarb then get rid of breakfast gradually therefore increase my fasting time, intermittent fasting 16:8 for abt a month onto keto, dropping carbs and into OMAD.
Weight training and zone 2 exercise 5 x a week. Treating my body with respect and not overexercising. Pandemic weight is off and I have found a change for life recipe. Fasting is the way to go! Free yourself from triggers.
she's wonderful. This is one of the best interviews you've had
Amazing episode, very informative in an easy but well supported way.
How do we hear amplify/female experts who are experts in fitness/longevity and have been through menopause? That's a large audience but many, if not most, of the experts in this space are male. Your info is fantastic but there's a missing element for me/ that population spoken from having been there/done that. Not a complaint just an ask.

My biggest hurdle is sugar. When I “cheat” and eat any sugary foods it triggers that craving again. My sugar addiction isn’t as bad as it was thanks to intermittent fasting. Started IF over a year ago and I’ve lost 25lbs plus I eat healthy foods within my eating window and exercise 4x/week. I’ll be 63 tomorrow and have changed my thyroid levels to normal by eating Paleo plus all of the above. Military doc wanted to kill my thyroid 10 years ago due to Graves and I said no, I’ll change my levels with changing my diet and I did thanks to help from my naturopathic doc. You CAN change your health by changing what you eat! I’m also an emotional eater just like what was talked about in this video. It’s a mental challenge too.
What a concise compilation
Thanks
Is funny how people mention carbs and automatically think of cookies and bread instead of rice, potatoes and oats, the problem is you not the carbs
Most carbs are processed? I’d say meat is a lot more processed and vegetables grown in labs full of pesticides and shit
All carbs are processed including fruits and veg. Fruits and veg of today are all GMO/hybridised. Some aren't even natural! So be careful what you put in your body.
@@No_Frills_Carnivore true, full of pesticides too, but then the only choice left is to grow your own which is almost impossible for most people
Thanks Tom
I like the format. :)
Thanks
I do believe counting calories works but you just have to do it very gradual and realistic - you don't want to mindlessly underestimate calories. Somehow this "problem" has to be tackled - a little counting will help - i.e. take a look at how much you're gonna be eating and drinking (especially drinking!). I use an app and it shows my daily budget and nutrients, that sticks in my brain all day and I'm glad it does! I WANT to improve this habit of being more aware of what's going in. I think being mindless is reckless showing up is the first victory. Opening the app every morning, opening the book, stepping into the gym or onto the exercise equipment - first victory! When in doubt, show up!
This is an incredibly useful compilation. Thank you for putting this together.

SLEEP WELL. The Sleep Smarter author, was sooooo correct. Oh course when I was living in California for 4 years, I had a personal trainer at LA Fitness went from a size 12 down to a size 6, maintained at a size 8, drinking protein shakes, eating salads, working as a preschool teacher but I was so stressed out.
SMART INTERMITTENT FASTING. I am 3.5 months postpartum and a lot of people ask me how I lost all my pregnancy weight. Within 3 months, I went from 207 pounds down to 154 pounds today. I do 16:8 and sometimes 18:6. I kinda do a fake IF because in the mornings until 2pm, I drink 1 cup of coffee, water throughout the day, SIPPED on fruit and green smoothies and drank green tea. My 2 meals are Keto + Mediterranean-ish.

EXERCISE daily 30mins+. Family and friends know me as a weightlifter and runner. I now only just walk everyday. I can't believe how well this has worked for me. I always thought I had to workout hard.

I'm doing everything right, so it is very disencouraging to be on a long plateau after loosing 9 kg fast. 😢 This is a mental challenge for sure. I did keto but my HS got really bad and I got to a plateau so I had to stop eating dairy and fats now and get on a healthy low fat sugar and flour free whole food plant based diet. I may add shellfish and fish sometimes. I'm not doing vegan keto. That is not sustainable. We need to enjoy life too. The diet that works is after all the one you can keep. My focus is on reducing inflammation and combatting my autoimmune diseases.
Yes!
I am slowly releasing sugar and will incorporate fasting. Thank you
I was still hungry after bulletproof coffee!
Any one else get a chuckle out of the fact they had the lady that said eat a healthy breakfast followed by the fasting guru who recommends skipping breakfast? There's a lot of "food for thought" here. I like near the ending where the suggestion is made to look around and find things to give thanks for. Great tip! It helps you focus on the big positive things instead of the little things that often eat on our mind. On that note: Thanks great video and thanks to all the folks that participated!
Also sometimes we get discouraged thinking it along proses gonna take weeks and months, we need to change this way of thinking ,our responsibility is today, it’s a day by day,so today I’m going to eat healthy and work out , I think I can take today’s challenge.

Eat less calories than you burn, eat more protein (for satiety), move more (preferably walking + resistance training full body 3x per week). Just spared you 40 mns of your time.
If this method worked, nobody would have a problem burning fat but sadly, this doesn't work, especially long term. Fat gain is a hormonal issue. Address the hormones, the fat falls off effortlessly.
So what would be a good carb ie Baked potato, wholemeal bread?
I’m on OMAD. 23 hours fasting but I am planning t switch on 18/6 from tomorrow. I just want to ask why I am loosing my weight so fast? I was 78 kg as on may 10, 2021. I was overweight. I have started IF with 2 meal a day for one month then switched to OMAD till date. I have lost 19 kg weight in three months. Now my weight is 59 kg now. Is it concerning? I have reversed my metabolic syndrome and I am happy 😃. But I am now concerned about my continued weight loss. Please help! My BMI is 19. Just 0.5 above being underweight. Please guide and help me. What is set point weight in my case ? Till when I will be loosing my weight? Is KETO and IF life long or we have to stop after achieving desired results? Kindly enlighten. Stay blessed.
Just completed my second day fasting from 6pm to 10am. Also weight lifting and walking and eating 200 grams protein with veggies. Wow this is easier than I though it would be. I was worried I would be so freaking hungry it would drive me off the fast. But no the cravings are very slight and drinking green Tea and water helps with that. Can't wait to see how much weight I lose over the first month. 58yrs 6'1" 273 pounds on my first day of fast.
Dr Fung said it depends on the hormones that are activated or being used when you take in calories, but how do you activate the right hormone? if I become more activities will the calories be used for weight loss or energy instead of fat storage
You activate them by eating the right things at the right times, and exercising.
Unless you want to be the size of the cow-stop eating like one..stop the grazing....
Eat 2 meals a day, with no snacks in between.
Fast every day (16-20 hours).
Eat whole foods, no processed foods.
Don´t drink your calories; only drink water, unsweetened coffee or tea.
Work out 3-6 times a week, don´t overdo it....go to the gym, set the impulse, then get out again...
This is (as of 2021) the up to date standard...
Very surprising to hear Jason Fung say do not count calories, that’s pretty bad advice. I’ve tried nearly all diets (incl paleo and keto), the only thing that worked was counting calories. 75% of TDEE. With regards to hormones, I keep my fats and carbs high, 35% carbs, 35% protein and 30% fats. fasting helps a lot too, making the first meal small and the second meal huge helps keep the calories low. Also eating carbs has actually helped me lose more weight due to the drop in cortisol. Really wish I knew this when I got started.
There is no need for counting calories.
If you eat real food, plant based, unprocessed, animal supplemented, and you only eat when you´re hungry, and stop eating when you are full.
Years of highly processed foods have led to millions of people who don´t know what to eat, when to eat and when to stop.
So counting calories is a good start to realizing WHAT and HOW MUCH we actually do eat....
The average caloric intake between 1930 and 1990 went up from average 2000 calories to 2500 calories, while the percentage of "whole food" in the diet plummeted significantly, and the sugar intake skyrocketed...
Carbs are not the enemy-as long as they come from proper, whole food sources (containing the fibre).
Its the fructose that is poisoning us.....

Respect and thank you! I'm 51 eat greens only. No oils, only feta and cucumbers and acv, once per day.... However, drink vodka and water to excess. So I'm 40lbs overweight. Can you address this issue? Appreciated. 🙏👀✌️🧠🔎🏳️
If your drinking alcohol, you're simply not gonna burn any fat. For a couple of days. Because you're forcing your body to process the alcohol - through the liver, and this is shutting off everything else. Quit the booze.

"hypogly-bitchy" lmfao! 😂
I totally agree with that not all calories are the same, and eating 500 calories less may not lead to weight loss, as your body can decide to burn 500 less calories. But out of the curiosity of science, I'm going to play the devil's advocate here. If you eat relevantly the same diet with the same number of calories, and exercise and burn 500 calories a day; will you lose 1lb a week? or is there in some way the 500 calories burn isn't really 500 calories?
I only eat fresh fruits, vegetables, eggs and fish. I only drink water. I bike 10 miles a day. I cut out pasta and bread. I only eat about 1000 calories a day. I get 8 hrs a sleep every night. I've done this for the past 4 months and have had no fat loss. None.

I’ve been doing this for 6 months and I still can’t fast beyond 12 hrs without feeling bad, I’ve lost weight and look better but my knees and hips fingers ache, I have belly fat, I’m developing a strange red dry patch on my arm.
You can fast longer. When you say you feel bad, drink a tbsp of pickle juice with a pinch of celtic salt or, eat a couple olives. Then you can push fast longer. ❤
The pain in your joints will heal.🕊
Don't eat breakfast.. rest the digestive system
"We are what we eat". Are you Fast Food or Proper Food? It's not about food, it's about self-esteem..
Cutting calories, eating whole nutritious foods and working out will lead to weight loss.. idc what anybody says. Your body doesn’t not burn calories if you’re doing things that require energy.. if you’re working out your body needs energy from somewhere.
What happens if you cut the number of calories by 300-500 kcal per day plus exercise at least 3 x per week? Plus most food being consumed is a balanced diet by high in protein (owing to exercise - way to maintain muscle mass).
Great vid but the ads are too much...
I actually can eat 10 - 20 avocados. (They are getting expensive though!)
Counting calories work for a lot of people. Saying that studies show that it doesn't work - period - is simply false. Minding what you eat, how much and WHY you eat what and when you eat (if not hungry) can be triggering for some people, I know, but claiming that this method doesn't work for at least some people is simply why I have stopped listening to especially the J. Fung unnuanced nonsense. I was on the keto diet non stop for two years, gained some weight, didn't feel that great and wasn't satisfied with my body composition any more. I switched to eating way more protein and greens and cut seriously down on the fat intake and feel and look way more healthy. Keto definately works for some people, no doubt about it, and so does many other ways of dieting, but there isn't a One Size Fits all, so excluding counting calories just doesn't make any sense since it actually WORKS for some people; myself included.
Ok but what if you haven’t been eating the donut, soda bread etc. and haven’t seen any changes for years. Checked thyroid it’s normal.
I don’t get the kickstand joke… anyone??
