Apparently the 4a 5G has exactly the same camera set up as the pixel 5, which would seem to make it quite the bargain if smartphone photography is important for you.
What is most important in a portrait is the person, especially the head and shoulders, clearly the pixel did better, it highlights the person much more. The iPhone photo has more details, but compared to the Pixel, does not look like a portrait.
@@raybasket I will explain: you don't need to be closer physically - what makes a portrait in camera photography is actually that the picture is taken from a distance but on a significant zoom (usually at least 50 mm lense). This allows the nice background blur, tight frame and focus on the person. That is exactly what Pixel emulates and iPhone clearly not.
@@JonsTech There's actually a lot of crazy cool stuff for why that is btw. The pixel 5 does pixel-shifting so that each photosite of the sensor gets full RGB color data directly from the light. iPhone does demosiacing and guesses or makes up 2/3'rds of the colors in an image.

Pixel was more detailed and sharper. At 7:00 the thai of the windows were sharper in pixel. Also gave a nice contrast in the text in your flare test. At 11:06 the overall image in the ipne looks softer. Pixel wins it for me because of clarity and detail
And now remember that the main-sensor of the pixel with all it's software is also in the Pixel 4a, a 350€ (don't know the Dollar-Price) phone and it just becomes unfair I am really hoping that Google can finally put modern sensors into the pixel 6 and still use this amazing software to it's full potential because it they can, the Pixel 6 will have an absolutely amazing camera
Good video mate. The building at night photo, the Pixel clearly had better dynamic range. You can see windows the iPhone cant. I did some testing of astrophotography (pretty much what I do on my channel) with the pixel vs the iPhone 12 and its not even close. Once we are out of town away from any light pollution, the pixel is miles and miles ahead of the iPhone. Good video mate,
I've owned a lot of iPhones and 2 pixels the 3 and the new 5. I prefer the pixel camera I love the way google processes images especially when taking portrait shots of people it's not even close in my opinion iphone just ruins shots with people in them the images appear flat, warm, and over saturated I never felt inspired to take photos with my 11 pro.
i think the 5 percent difference in the pixel 5 can be mitigated by the host of editing tools they include in the camera app. and also totally agree, if they created their own in house processor with a built-in mini processor for the processing of the camera, and upped the camera specs this would have been phone of the year probably.
IPhone 12: over-sharpening everywhere, over-saturation, over-expose, kind of artificial in general. Still looks like a camera phone. Pixel 5: natural, nice colors, soft looking, sometimes almost looks like a DSLR.
i think the pixel 5 wins this because of very good details, dynamic range specially the night mode and natural color which i mostly like. And I love watching things that i can't afford.😢
I have pixel 3a and looking for an update. Since Pixel 5 hasn't launched in India, I am considering iPhone 12 (not pro). Is this a good upgrade in term of photos as well? By the way, I am more than happy with the camera performance of Pixel 3a.

I had the 12 pro max in silver. Had it delivered on 13 but sent it back after day of use. It’s just toooooo large for the phone. Apple went to far with size plus in person the shiny sides look cheap to me. I’ve sent it back and orders pixel 5 which I can rock without a case as it’s half the price and better battery life

Is the hardware really better? Were there big improvements in the last years if it comes to camera sensors? The sensors of the Pixel 5 and iPhone 12 both have around 12 MP (12,2 on Pixel & 12 on Iphone) and pixel size is the same (1,4µm).
@@JonsTech iph13 is (already) rumored to have 120hz next year but this means two things: BOE display panel provider will be swapped by Samsung display provider, due to some problems BOE is facing in terms of display quality and quantity and second, Samsung displays sold to Apple, specially the one with 120hz display technology will be quite expensive, this leaving Apple no other choice but to increase the cost of the base level Iphone even further. I think a 1000$ for base model is to be expected next year. Will see trough, still very very early.

When people cancel iPhone due to the fact that Pixel takes comparable photos but cheaper. Ok. What about the usability? I tried to get used to android on numerous android phones but to no avail. Just can’t stand it. I also own iPad Air, MacBook, Apple TV, iPhones, so it’s be just foolish if I switched to another brand. Everything just cooperates. Whatever I do on one device just continues on another, like copying text, writing, messaging, etc. it’s ok to use other companies because they’re really doing better than Apple which I’m mad at when i12 came out. I wished for the Touch ID at least. I do have it on my new iPad Air tho. So why did Apple not implement a Touch ID on it either?

The pixel is way over matched. Google is being way too cheap using a 3 year old main sensor. iPhone just does it better in detail, color, and night mode.

The style of the images it'll take always wins me. Videos are good enough as long as it doesn't get too hot and then stop recording like my pixel 3 here. I can see where you're coming from, the framing does look better. Also the colors are more true to life on the Pixel 5

The Pixel auto mode seems to be a bit nicer. Though with ProRAW I’d like playing around with that . Pity iPhone doesn’t have an Astro mode

The iPhone will probably be your best bet if you want to keep it for 4 years. They will keep you with updates more than the typical android device
