After writing a soon-to-be bestselling novel, writer and committed bachelor Harper Stewart (Taye Diggs) attempts to hide the fact that his saucy new book is loosely based on the lives and loves of his tight-knit group of friends. Lance is a hypocrite. He supposed to be this upstanding Christian when he has cheated on Mia numerous times and he told Harper to go on and be a dog by being a cheater. Then when he finds out Mia slept with Harper long time ago, he can't deal with it

Y’all really need to understand that it wasn’t the cheating that he was mad about. He obviously knew that he cheated on her a lot. Lance admits on this scene that he knew that Mia cheated too. It was WHO she cheated with is what he was furious about. Harper was a like a brother to him and that’s what hurt him the most. Because he's not as great a writer as he thinks......so he chronicled a juicy time in his own life for profit. As depicted in the sequel, his future literary attempts fumbled which caused he and his wife to struggle financially. Writing Lance's biography saved him.......

Thing is Lance only initially wanted Mia because she was a virgin. He didn’t really like her. He just wanted to be the first to hit. And then what with the way Lance was treating her at the time why should Harper think that he really cared for Mia? Sure, he said he loved her but he didn’t act like it.

Hmm I think he respected her being a virgin but she peaked his interest when she criticized him. Obviously it wasn’t a love at first sight deal, but he wanted to take her seriously he just didn’t know how. Her staying each time and then getting her “revenge” is really what gets me. Hurt people hurt people. When you stay long enough after being mistreated it opens the door to resentment. (I’ve been there). And you see in the 2nd movie Lance couldn’t let go of the hurt after he found out Mia cheated on him with his best friend. It tainted not only their marriage but the bond of their entire friend group. Long lasting consequences.
To me, it always felt like Mia was the big karma houdini of this film. She was the only character that wasn't beat up or fussed at throughout all this drama, even though she was just as guilty as anyone else at helping perpetuate drama in the first place.

I understand when you said Harper was the one who encouraged Mia to give Lance a chance but what you're not getting is that why did Harper wait to get with Mia after she and Lance were dating exclusively.
He could've did what he did before Lance was even in the picture. That makes Harper a hypocrite. He's encouraging in the beginning but yet he taketh away, in a book that he wrote. Any way you want to look at it, was wrong. If you're my so called best friend and I trust you you're supposed to warn me to keep my eyes and ears open regardless of the situation.
