    I think that 'with his own hands' implies that Ellis choked his brother to death; thats why there are scratches on his forearms. I think it was a clue that Ellis, the jock, was the only one strong enough to do it. Then the twisted fingers; maybe he was wearing the ring when he punched something (Maybe the wall?) and that broke his fingers.

    My assumption on how you find out Glenn told Roman, and that Roman was the one that left:
    I could be very wrong, but I think you could get that Glenn told Roman about the blackmail based on the white phone's message saying they need to talk in person. The white phone belonged to Glenn and it seems that message was on the same day, so could be that he asked Roman to meet him outside in that message to tell him. Then with the witness seeing the red car drive off around 5:30, that lines up with talk outside message timeline. Not 100% sure how you know the red car is Roman's, but I guess you could also make that assumption with the messages on the black phone, Ellis's phone, when he is asking where the "little S**t is". I thought that Ellis was talking about Roger's son, but if you look at the timeline, it is after Glenn talks to Roman and the red car leaves, so I guess he was calling Roman a "little s**t" with Roman being the youngest. I think there could be something more with the deleted messages on both phones, maybe each number is the phone of the other, but not sure there.

      Good observations, those definitely make sense to me for how things resolved. I think, ultimately, that that wasn't clear enough in the case and could definitely be interpreted in different ways, but pointing these things out after knowing the answer is logical

      Apparently Roman was estranged from the father and all three brothers which is why the neighbor did not recognize Roman’s car. She would have recognized the car if it had been any of the other sons as the visited with some frequency:
      Ellis was staying with his father
      Glenn had retrieved and returned his father’s sniper gun from the family hunting cabin earlier in the week
      Roger’s kids had gift bags for son Samuel and Daughter harmony in the front table.
      As to how we know Samuel and harmony are Roger’s kids: Glenn referenced ‘growing families’ on his eulogy but only included Roger and himself. Glenn’s work diary names Ruby as his only child, Ellis’ letter states he is single ‘settling down, just the two of us’. And Roman’s eulogy makes it clear he’s been estranged from the family for some time, so his unnamed son would not have been known for a gift bag.

  • @sjordan9355
    @sjordan9355 Před 3 měsíci +139

    So, Glenn texted Roman - that was the whole "i need to talk to you" set of texts.
    Ellis is the only one strong enough to put dents into the wall, the only one strong enough to wield the marble bust and kill someone. roger was already emotional and overloaded - he fumbled the guns, dropped one, and then shot ellis with the other which he took with him.
    im not sure what the deleted texts are, besides maybe glenn and roger talking and admitting something and roger deleted it? idk - i dont know who took the ring off either, except that MAYBE! Maybe Glenn is the one who broke Ellis' finger and snatched his ring - getting upset that thats what ellis was focused on after all. ellis was then consumed with rage - set is ring down next to the post card, realized he was already losing everything, then attacked glenn who had backed off after the initial fight. glenn and roger are talking, ellis pops in, roger runs and glenn dies - roger shoots ellis when he comes back down. not sure why roger then dragged ellis outside except maybe he was just dissociating after two brothers died right after his father.
    Also, notice the chairs in the wake: the big one is romans, a CEO chair - the next one is Ellis - then the matching chairs are Roger and Glenn, I bet you: roger and glenn are irish twins. They were the ones closest to their dad: Roger was bereft, and Glenn had to take two weeks and skip seeing his daughter to cope with the grief.
    The phone in the foyer is Ellis' actually, he's talking to Roger and Glenn. Roger is the one responding, because Glenn is backing out and tells Roman to run. Glenn is a lawyer, therefor he understood this would be BAD for Ellis - he tried to protect his brothers. Roger's son looks up to Ellis as an athlete. Ellis' last text is asking where Roman went, and thats when he found out Glenn snitched.
    The upstairs phone on the body is Glenn's, Felix was messaging him mostly bc Glenn was dealing with a bunch of the legal nonsense and glenn mentioned staying in touch with felix. Glenn messaged Roman - the "what do you want from me" almost sounds like theyve asked Roman for stuff before, or he's used to it - either way he is NOT close to them. what doesnt make sense is that glenn messaged roman, but the blackmail was planned FOR the day of the wake...so roman must have been working AT the wake itself, otherwise its disjointed.
    So, ellis messaged glenn, and they both have the deleted text, maybe ellis messaged him pissed off, then erased it to hide what hed done.
    Obviously: Ellis thought he would be getting the most out of the inheritance. He's the eldest, their dad obviously put a lot into that sort of thing. it must have felt like betrayal then for the dad to dismiss him after spending years encouraging him to pursue his sports career - only to punish him for it. Roman being the youngest, was the least favorite child in truth. He didn't go hunting with dad, he didn't have their father encouraging him in sports. He was the youngest, and he was the one who ended up coming ahead. The favorite must have been Glenn or Roger, maybe Roger: second oldest, married?, a son, a managerial job.
    So, Ellis threatens Roman - Glenn being a lawyer and knowing better warns Roman, Roger is the more timid of the pair so he went along with Ellis but the line "you know my son looks up to" isn't positive - its wary, like "are you really gonna do this? but..my kid thinks your good?"
    Ellis finds out Glenn snitched, messages him, Glenn admits it - the fight ensues. Glenn breaks Ellis' finger - catching hand maybe, he may have just ruined what was left of Ellis' chances - Ellis flies into a rage - slams open the door, hits Glenn over the head with the bust.
    Roger must have seen or heard something, fled to the gun room, fumbled the gun and dropped one, and held onto the other. when Ellis confessed, Roger broke. shot his brother, his best friend was dead, and his dad was dead. idk why he tried to drag ellis out, maybe he meant to just get him outside? maybe he wanted to get him help, but his state of mind is shot so....

    • @Loverofallemo
      @Loverofallemo Před 3 měsíci +5

      yeah its the dragging out part that gets me too, cause we dont know which body the cop's notes are about, but the only body we know they found for sure is the upstairs one, so i guess we just werent given the notes on the upstairs body and the dragged one was found outside where we couldnt see...
      i'm assuming too that Roger must have a second 9mm on him, cause there was a spot for four 9mms, so like you said Roger must have fumbled with the first one and dropped it, so grabbed a second one, shot Ellis and then disappeared with it, cause none of the sons (except the two victims) are at the Manson anymore.

    • @RySpitzer
      @RySpitzer Před 3 měsíci +27

      I agree with this entirely minus one thing - I don't believe the bust was used as a weapon, and therefore isn't evidence against Ellis. Blunt force trauma causes A LOT of blood splatter and there was not a single drop upstairs. I think the bust was just knocked over in the struggle like everything else. I believe Ellis simply strangled him - which also requires quite a bit of strength - hence the summary saying "ending Glenn's life with his own hands".

    These last two cases (this and the police station one) seem less satisfying than the others before them. This one because there really don't seem to be enough actual CLUES (there's something to be said for inference but at a certain point it feels like you just have to guess/speculate which doesn't feel as fun) and for the police one it was an incredibly obvious (and disrespectful) killer. tbh I think ellis is the favorite son. the dad seems to have high expectations of his sons and while the other three brothers seem to be pressured to live up to those expectations by having higher-up jobs and families, ellis always been supported by his dad even if his achievements would have been regarded as "less", since a "successful athlete" was not part of the criteria on the testimony. ellis is also allowed to live in his father's mansion and of his dad's money while doing so and his dad doesn't seem to mind. it just seems like there haven't been as much pressure to success on him as on his brothers.

      Makes sense, but it isn't much in the way of dirt. Roman was successful enough to own his own company and clearly wealthy enough to even think of buying his dad's company out... the gambling tickets weren't that much money for someone in that position- and he wasn't gambling with his father's money, it's his own. They don't know if his wife knows about it or not, and there was no stipulation about gambling in the will, so what's the point? I think Ellis wanted to blackmail Roman because Ellis had gambling debts he needed to pay off.

    • @Loverofallemo
      @Loverofallemo Před 3 měsíci +3

    I feel like we could conclude pretty easily that Roman was blackmailed because of the speech. Heck, even Gab had her mouth hanging open. There’s a palpable awkward silence after he’s done talking, and it’s noted in the transcription. Ellis is just into sports and still paid his respects so there was nothing really eyebrow raising about his speech. I’ve been to funerals where people remained positive and joked around.

    Then says hes gonna buy the company OUTRIGHT and that he "might" find a position for Jonathan, the guy his father left the company to in his will.
    So yeah his attitude and disrespcet was enough to make everyone mad, especially Ellis who was the oldest and treated badly because he chose sports over business and wasnt married yet.

    The phone in the police documents (retrieved from the upstairs body) was Glenn's. The text conversation with the messages saying he had to talk about something in person were to Roman; this was alluding to the discussion the brothers had where Glenn tipped off Roman about the blackmail, which caused Roman to leave the house thereafter. I originally thought the upstairs body was Roman because I was kinda convinced that Ellis had killed Roman - but after seeing the case report at the end, that text conversation now makes more sense. I knew the phone upstairs wasn't Ellis' (as Gab had originally thought) because the wording of the texts was too professional to be Ellis, so it had to belong to either Glenn or Roman; the phone downstairs belonged to Eliis, I think, based on the tone of the phone owner's texts (slang-y, use of emoticons, kinda haughty).
    A sedan isn't necessarily a family car, though. It's just a 4-door car with a separate trunk/boot (i.e., unlike a station wagon where the passenger area is open to the trunk). I think the hint that would've indicated it was Roman's car would be a comparison of the time stamps of the text conversation between Glenn and Roman (from the phone found on Glenn's body) and the time given for when the neighbour/witness saw the car leave the property (though, that's a pretty subtle clue).
    Also, pretty sure the bags on the tray in the foyer were for Roger's kids (Samuel and Harmony Hughes). He didn't have time (or the mental/emotional capacity) to grab them for his kids before leaving after shooting Ellis.

  • @lightworthy
    @lightworthy Před 3 měsíci +2

    what i’m gathering is that we can tell ellis is the one to kill someone (evidently glenn) upstairs because outside of the keys, he’s the one who was extra aggravated (the little shit text) and looking for roman to confront him, and would easily and naturally go to body someone and wield a heavy marble statue, knocking someone down & stunning them (but importantly, no blood, ie, that’s not what killed them). the body downstairs’ hands were messed up, including broken fingers and scratches, indicating choking Glenn to death being what actually killed him. when being choked, common response is to go for the hands of who is choking you, so the scratches make sense. it would also make sense why his ring & pinky finger were twisted oddly, general fighting safety is removal of rings, ESPECIALLY big ones since they can break your own fingers! it being a crime of passion and anger, it makes the most sense for it to be a physical altercation & personal, so the normal fight turning into a hit over the head and the final choking to death from a previous champion wrestler is classic motive and ability
    outside of that part though, i feel like this last level wasn’t fully done well enough to give us the entire story. you could piece most of it together easily enough, but i truly don’t see how you’re supposed to ascertain the leaving and coming back, along with why the hell ellis was dragged outside, to just be left there and him to flee after??? sure you can catch that someone tells roman Something, but i feel like it was hard to gauge that it was about the blackmail scheme (which i still don’t even know WHAT the blackmail was?) and not the actual blackmailing itself, thus why would you think he left at all. and since it was so hard to catch the warning about the blackmail, you have no reason to believe glenn is the one ellis kills and not roman, who he was actively looking to confront. the roger killing ellis part is understandable enough, if ellis is dead then a perfect middle of the forehead shot can only be roger, and he was sober due to the note.
    overall, i think this last story was really good, it just needed a Bit more evidence to gauge what is going on with them mentally, since again why the actual hell did roger kill ellis, then drag him outside, THEN FLEE?? but there’s a couple spots like that that make it so you don’t really get why someone killed someone, you’re just kinda guessing because you have half the right information and stumbling into the right answer by guessing the rest. i really liked this game though, i hope people make more like it! it’s super fun and the storylines are great to folow

    When you have a % situation like "of the 90%" Take the initial 100% take out the 10% and that number you get make it the new 100%. This is so you stop thinking of that 10%. Example would be if you have 100 you take out the 10% so its now 90. Now ignore everything else and just understand 90 is the new 100% and then math that out to everyone.

    Another clue that pointed at Ellis being one of the killers is the set of keys found in the room. If you listen back to the speeches, you can here the keys jangle after Ellis walks away after his speech, which is the only time you hear them. Ofc that could be wrong but my guess is that the keys fell during the fight.

  • @zaratastari2457

    This case is actually very straightforward. However because the clues are lacking in written clues but more on environmental clues it depends on your imagination. In fact for the first time you are being encouraged to listen to audio recordings which only having the funeral speech giving context of the siblings background and personality. Admittedly I dont have enough imagination as Gab is but this mystery is enough to dupe me. This case is admittedly more interesting than the police massacre cause how simple is harder to deduce, while the police station one you got so many clues that you're left with the innocent bystanders indentity left to figure out. Over all I'm enjoying reading the comments whose able to capture this case easier than I did lol.

I also knew the "I have work" person was likely Roman, since Glenn had cancelled all his work for that week and the next.

    Of all the logical leaps this scenario forces you to make, getting hung up on Roman as the blackmail target is the most confusing. It was obvious the chat was talking about him, his conduct was clearly the most disrespectful. Just because he has a son doesn't mean no-one else can, lol. For everything else, though, there definitely wasn't enough info to solve it.

    What drives me nuts is that the texts from the butler to the phone found on the 2nd floor body were identical to the texts sent to the phone downstairs, but they were sent on different days at the exact same times. The upstairs phone had messages from Felix on 5/13 and the phone downstairs had the same messages on 5/16. Most likely a mistake given the end summary, but an unfortunate mislead that really looked like someone establishing an alibi hoping that no one would notice the timestamps. In addition to that, in what world would someone be "required" to be a butler, as stated in the letter to Felix from the late Mr Hughes? Add on to all of that Felix had receipts of his purchases on hand for the cops to prove his alibi of being away from the crime scene, didn't mention Jonathan's eulogy, and moved to immediately incriminate the sons. It all smelled of a plot by a man blackmailed and forced into servitude looking for cross-generational revenge + a greedy business partner looking to snatch up the remainder of the business from the family, or at least get the most successful of the sons out of picture.
    A really unfortunate typo that had me focused on the butler the whole time.

    OKAY SO: Missing info.
    So the white phone is the 1311#, we can tell by the deleted msgs on the black phone, and that leaves the black phone as the 5766#. 1492# is Felix, 8891# is either Roman, Glenn, or Roger, we can tell bc they say they're busy with work right before the car leaves at 5:30, and Ellis is unemployed. So process of elimination. We can figure out Roman is the one being blackmailed bc of the attitude in the speeches thing and "putting him in his place" thing. Ellis was cocky, but didn't do anything particularly crazy, and has no money, according to his postcard. Roman however announced the company buyout and also compared owning a business to childbirth, doing something both arrogant and crazy and is obviously very well off. 5766#, which we previously determined to be the black phone, we can assume to be one of the brothers involved in the blackmail (Glenn, Roger, or Ellis). Well 4302# has to be Roger bc Roger is the only one besides Roman to have a son. We figured this out bc the labeled bags on the table belong to Samuel and Harmony Hughes, and Glenn has a note to call "Sammy" in his planner. For every work obligation he has the full first and last name written, it's only people he's very familiar with, like Ruby, Valerie, Felix, and Joshua that are first name only. Based on that, we know Sammy is probably a nickname for a close friend or relative, combined with the fact that Glenn is only really shown to be close with his brother Roger, we can guess that Sammy is Samuel Hughes, Roger's son. This means Roger's the only other one that has a son, confirming him to be #4302. SO, we've deduced Roman can't be 4302# or 5576# bc he's the one being blackmailed He has to be either 1311# or 8891#. This leaves the 5766# being either Ellis or Glenn, who we can guess to be Ellis bc he's currently staying there, by the text msgs between him and Felix, like you said. This leaves the 1311# (white phone) and the 8891# to Glenn and Roman. Now, remember how the 8891# said he was busy with work? Think back to Glenn's planner. He canceled his whole next 2 weeks when he found out about his dad's death, meaning Roman was the only one still working. This leaves the 1311# white phone owner as Glenn, who, we can figure out by the msgs with the 8891# we now know to be Roman, wanted to talk to him urgently, right before the blackmail was supposed to happen. Based on the fact that Roger kept his msgs, but Glenn deleted his the same day the blackmail was supposed to happen, we can assume Glenn changed his mind last minute, and as a lawyer, did not want to leave a paper trail, and went to inform Roman. Based on Ellis's msgs asking "where is the little sh*t", after the car has left at 5:30, couple with the fact that the white phone belongs to the body upstairs, we know Glenn died upstairs and Roman probably took off in the sedan. We can figure out pretty easily the one who killed Glenn was Ellis, based on Roger's reluctance, the struggle, the keys, the angry msgs asking where Roman is, etc. Now we know Ellis beat him to death bc of the lack of blood and the fist sized hole in the wall. That will definitely mess up your fingers, meaning the body downstairs with the messed up fingers and covered in scratches is probably Ellis, who just got finished beating up Glenn. This means we know Roger is the downstairs shooter bc only Glenn and Roger are familiar with firearms, and Glenn died upstairs. We can confirm it's Roger based on the fact that he was an emotional wreck during his speech, while Glenn was very calm, and whoever shot downstairs was fumbling with the gun. This obviously fits Roger best out of all the brothers. Roger being the only one alive to drag the body out, coupled with him not liking killing things, the death of his dad, and now having to just shoot his brother, makes it pretty easy to figure out he had an emotional breakdown and didn't know what else to do but try and get rid of Ellis's body.
    Hope that covers it!
