this makes me very very happy. competitive magic cannot survive off of mta alone. you know, people actually like interacting with one another in person
Well said
NIce to see more paper tournaments especially Pioneer format.
I'm so over the dumb fetchlands. so right about the shuffling constantly. Pioneer fixed alot of the broken bs that was modern. too many op cards n decks an overpriced bs decks. its pay to win format vs pioneer which is diverse an someone can brew up a deck n come out n win with it..
Damn. SteveO is a starcraft fan!
This is a video that should be on the MTG official channel. They are not showing the return of competitive play.
We're hoping MTG will put a little more attention towards competitive as we think a healthy balance of both casual and competitive is best for the game's growth.
they don't care, it doesn't make them money
@@chrisposniewski2728 If they're hardly paying anything to organise the tournaments (outsourced to other companies), and competitive mtg becomes well known (again), then surely it encourages people to buy product? But we know WotC is not rational lol
This was the worst run magic event i have ever been to for side events. None of the side events were run properly and the prize support was terrible while also having incredibly high entry price.
It was pretty disorganized for the main event too, and only 5 floor judges for over 1000 tables.
I was looking into going but couldn't find a legacy event.
Appreciate the feedback, it was our first time running an event at this scale and there was definitely a LOT of learnings to be had. Know we take running this extremely seriously and we'll be looking to make some big improvements for future events, especially when it comes to staffing.
@@InVerum Appreciate to see you accepting the constructive criticism and not just deflecting the blame.
@@cameronkoblitz4248 Nah, there were definitely areas we could have done a lot better. We GROSSLY underestimated signups, which led to not bringing in enough refs/judges etc. Overall I think it was a solid outing but tons of room for improvement. Vibes were good, we'll get the execution right next time.
Joe and Reid are legends! Great video.
A month ago my local store had a standard tournament. We had 12 people in it. So it isn't dead, just need more tournaments for standard.
I LOVE these kinds of videos. Please keep them coming!
This is solid!
This came together so well! Thanks for interviewing me 😃
nice !!!
Is there CZcams archive for this event?
Not on CZcams. Not sure if it is archived on Twitch.
Ahhhh yes paper magic
1:12 woahhh
The smell must be crazy
It actually didn't smell bad. This one felt a little different from past large tournaments.
just for the US how great . leave the rest of us out :D
There were other Regional Championship tournaments. I probably should've mentioned how this was one of many that were run across the world.
lot people never “grew up”😂
Some of us still want to play our children's card game.
If standard dies MTG new card print dies.
Standard is still alive its just pioneer is a more an affordable tournament. my LGS does Modern on Thursday nights n Friday is Standard n Saturday afternoon is pioneer. Pioneer on Saturdays from the times I've gone which was surprisingly alot which was nice to see ppl back live at tournaments. Made me feel like we're getting further past that Covid nightmare which is cool. Standard on Friday is what I usually play the least. I have a burn deck 4 modern that does well if I draw right an a mono green Nissa shakes the world/Voice of the Zendikar hardened scales with a cpl Ugins. its a wild build with the ozilith making it op. sometimes ill use it in modern with 4 walking ballistas. I only play standard on arena. I used the red n black Vampire challenger deck upgraded some but its rotated out at this point. idk ill build something n play some standard one of these days. Friday night is for things other than magic the gathering thats prolly the main problem right there lol...I'm out n about esp Friday nights. They should change it to Sunday Evening Standard. id def play I enjoy poker at the casino on sundays often while watching the games. From a real card players perspective these are the times I'd prefer to play. FNM is 4 kids n nerds smh...don't worry I'm a nerd too, I've enjoyed plenty of FNMS also but I think its best days are behind us since Arena became popular an covid shut down live tournaments its died off a ton in popularity. No1 was buying a deck of cards they couldn't play with lol... maybe now that things r getting back 2 normal itll bounce back again if managed properly.
@@ryanzuvic7068 but if the company doesn't earn enough from new sets where their earning comes from. Then they won't find worth on investing on newer sets. They would just do last ditch sales on older card then close up shop and sell the rest of the digital side to Tencent. Companies operates base on earning if they don't earn enough for their newer sets, typical company close it done. Standard sales down equals to end of magic as a whole because company ain't earning.
@@hellothere-us7iw i think its still in a bounce back phase from Covid. but maybe like I said get away from the whole FNM thing n just let stores host standard as they choose... idk the answer but I get what ur saying. If anything I kinda just backed up ur point by saying how I hardly touched standard in the past few years... idk we'll see I just can't see standard dying itll just have to adapt into something else. remember type 1 n type 2 way back in the day lol? The game will have to evolve
Sweaty armpit smells in that location
Imo arena feels more rewarding than paper. There are just too many barriers too entry to play competitive paper.
Standard is dead because there's no standard events. The format itself is nowehre near as toxic as it used to be when *War of the Spark* and *Eldraine* were ruining the format with ridiculous OP cards!
Too many unsupported formats. Thus inflating the market. Thus making every format more and more inaccessible. Good job wizards.
Wow..imagine wearing a mask at an event like this. It's already hard enough to hear your opponent in these events and that mask is doing zero to stop a covid spread.
I feel like the people still wearing masks need mental help.
A room filled with hope getting squeezed out of money for cardboard squares, looks like a MTG tournament…. Yeah…. Glad people are having fun… Magic isn’t a Bad Investment it’s a Great Game…m.
good time rn to pick up some cards for about 20% less than what they had been going for for awhile.
