KC & The Sunshine Band holds such a special place in my heart, I remember dancing around the house with my mom as a small kid while listening to them….then in 2006 I took my mom to their concert for her birthday, just me and her…it was magical. She’s been gone now 5 years and when I want to feel connected to her I play some KC & The Sunshine Band! Music helps the heart and soul so much!

When you hear KC and the Sunshine Band, you immediately think of dancing. They were HUGE back in the disco days. They started up in 1973 and are still touring today. They still sound great. This song was not one of their top ones. "That's the Way I Like It" and "Get Down Tonight" are 2 of their biggest hits. Give them a listen. I promise you will be dancing in your seats.

"GIVE IT UP" was a top 10 hit in the US. KC, knowing the song would become a hit, released the song independently in the US because no studio would agree release the song. Had a major record label released the song with all of their media promotion, it could have become a top 5 hit.

K.C took a job as a non-paid gofer at a music label so he could hang around the studio. A few years later he wrote his first number 1 hit Rock Your Baby, sang by George McCrae. K.C is so incredibly talented! This was his “come back” song. Thanks for the reaction as always.

This was KC moving into the 80's from the 70's disco era. Disco was being beaten on by rock stations and people were running from disco in droves in the early 80's. MTV just came on the air and were playing videos and KC did his best to stay relevant without straying too far from his roots. This was his entry into the 80's pop, techno world.

I remember regularly playing KC and the Sunshine Band records at events as a DJ in the 70s. However, there is an official, if rarely seen, video that accompanies this song which has to be seen to be believed. Casey wakes up floating on a raft with his head in the lap of a girl of about 9 or 10. She is completely silvery blue, including her hair, and takes him to some sort of house of hedonism where he rescues the other band members, including the girls dressed in tight black leather, who were tied to the building's pillars. As I said you need to see it for yourself.

Really nice man. I went to see him and brought my old 8-track tape about 15 years ago. He saw it, and after the show sent his nephew to ask me if I wanted it signed. I di of course and gave it to him and he went in back with it. He came back shortly and asked me to come with him, which I did. There was Henry Wayne Casey (KC) himself sitting at a table. He asked me if it (the 8-track) still played, and I told him yes as I had worked in radio and all my carts worked. (In the day all songs played on radio had been recorded onto 4-track cartridges, which were just like 8-tracks, except for less tracks per tape so quality was not as good. Most everything was AM radio then so it was not true stereo). He was amazed. signed it gave me a bunch of cool stuff and thanked me. I was so happy. I had it in my hand the other day, I need you to see a pic so you know I am not joking.

This song was released in 1982 so they are introducing even more "pop"/electronic sounds that were popular at that time. This band brings back such great memories for me as a small kid dancing around the living room with my mom or aunts. Great reaction!!

    KC and the sunshine band!
    “Boogie Shoes”
“Rock Your Baby” a song that KC wrote! Excellent song!
They had 5 songs go to number 1 and 1 song at number 2!

This song was also popular with high school & college pep bands and cheer squads for a decade or more because it always got everyone pumped.

I know the band.. but this was a song I had never heard before until I was driving home one day. Tired, hot, sweaty and "grimy" (welder) and I could not help but feel better and dance in my car in traffic.
It's just a happy song. I love it.

This, and the sweet ballad 'Please Don't Go' are my favourite songs of theirs, but I don't think I've ever heard one I didn't like. Thanks guys, this was fun.

3:15 "Is there a KC & the Sunshine Band song that doesn't make you want to dance?"
Yes!Yes! If you guys loved Huey Lewis' Duet with Gweneth Paltrow (Cruising), then you've got to hear KC's duet, to the song: Yes I'm Ready."
It will blow yall's mind. Especially if you see the video of him performing it with the co-singer (Teri Desario) where he's wearing a Red shirt. The Song and performance are: 🔥🌡!!

The whistling sound is a flute. Flutes sometimes popped up in disco records.

Catchy tune. You can hear the their transition from disco to 80s pop in this one.

I went to a KC Concert a few years ago.
He still puts on a great show.
It was summer at a beach venue in NH. Crazy fun.
    80% woman . Everyone was dancing .
The woman backup singers all had feather boas dancing around.
There was so much energy in that ballroom.

This song was a constant on the radio when I was a child. It can literally take me back to moments with family, getting ears pierced, going to the rivers, catching small fishes and releasing them, feeling them nibbling at your feet. They were the best times.

Their slow, non-dance song is "Please Don't Go." It's a great young love song/breakup song.
LOL, my wife and I were just talking about what a great "instruments" band KC had.
