    I had my XR 650 R for one year when I had a crash and broke my leg. That was in 2010 and it has sat since. Now I am resurrecting it, and your videos are priceless. I just leave them running all day so I can listen to them over and over. Beautiful job on the gas tank. I looked at how the brake line comes up past the headlight on mine. The headlight is missing, but I’m pretty sure that it runs outside the headlight just as you did with yours in video 21. Thank you so very much for these videos. For us loyal to the XR 650 R, it is invaluable. I will follow much of the stuff you did. It was nice to see the petcock replacement, because that’s my next mission. Take care.

      Thanks they are awesome bikes,hope you recovered after your crash ,i to am carrying some injuries spine hip etc it stops me riding much but i still enjoy working on the bikes .glad my vids are useful. When working on fuel system i start at the tank vent pipe and work my way right through to the carb,it caught me out before a blocked vent pipe on tank gave me flat spot even though the carb was right . 👍👍

    Well that puts a smile on my face - I'm amazed how good you made the tank look! You are very welcome my friend. I'm happy to give back to a channel that I've enjoyed and learned so much from (sweet trick with the front seat mount screw for example!). And your attention to detail is such a great lesson for me. You go the extra steps to make sure you do it right and that it will (likely) work when you assemble it. I've always been a rider, not a mechanic, and my rush to get back on the trail or track has indeed left me stranded at times. Now if I can only remember to think "what would Philip do?" when I get a wrench in my hand, I might avoid some long treks pushing the bike home... hahahaha thanks for the great content and keep it coming!

    Looks great. You'd enjoy a spray on protectent called SC-1 after getting that shine you achieved. It'll keep it slick and resisting dirt. Keeps my motocross bike looking new.

    What a nice gesture and show of appreciation! Watched this last night. Sorry, was a little late to the party with view #13. I will try to do better to stay on top of this. One observation is how odd the xr650r tank is! Strange shapes and a lot lower left side with out a fuel tap.

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  Před 2 lety

      Hi 😀🖐thanks for always watching. Yes it dose look a bit odd I always thought that i mean how can the fuel on the left side reach the tap 🤔 some will splash over but cant see how it all would get used . Many of these have larger tanks fitted and from what i hear they need it , prob will invest in one some day. 😀👍👍👍

    Hi I really enjoy your videos. Boat builder Guy put me on to your channel. Seen your wheels in video. Look amazing. I would like some super moto wheels. But really hard to come by. Do you know anywhere that does them. Or do you have any hubs for sale. Thanks Chris.

    Hey, keep up the great work. I follow your build quite a time now. I'm about to get my hands one a XR as well. So I was wondering what you have paid only for the Bike? And do you know how much you have invested in Part until now. Want to rebuild one as well.

      Thanks for watching 😀. Well it all depends what country you in , in uk and Europe theses are fetching crazy money but from what i hear usa and Australia they are cheaper prob cause there were more sold there . So in uk pounds just the bike £3700 thats about what they cost new 20yrs ago 😵‍💫. On parts about £1400 , but a big chuck of the parts was on the wheels . Best of luck hope you get yours soon 👍👍👍

      I'm living in Germany and the prices are exploding sice one year, but found one in Italy that's quite cheap... But I will see what I can do. Thanks for the quick answer

    That's great I wish you more subscribers like that one😄My tank graphics always bubbling specially on one side so I removed it.. then I bought black regular stickers film of ebay then cut nicely black strips and stick them to the tank and then tank looks pretty good but only for a few days then starts bubbling again.. the fumes from the petrol can escape through the tank but get traped under the stickers? Original decals are so expensive so I'm really worry about to buy them and have a problem again.. any suggestions?

      @OldDirtBikes  Před 2 lety

      Hi thanks for the comment. Decals are my weak point I’ve never had any luck with them . I payed £80 for mine from usa 🇺🇸 now im worried about putting them on haha some have holes in them maybe that helps some fumes to escape 😀👍

    • @davidkris
      @davidkris Před 2 lety +2

      I've not tried this, but there are some products to seal in off gassing. AFM Hard Seal Multi-Surface Sealer works on vinyl, it might be worth a try on plastic. I'm thinking reverse tape off the tank so you're applying this just where the stickers go and it dries clear.

    I got a kdx fuel tank with ingrained dirt that won't shift, you reckon the sugar soap would get it looking clean again and lift the dirt staining Out ?

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi yes i think it would but it is quite abrasive. I would not use it on a dirty but mint tank . Worth a go i think 😀

    Hello guys , is it that much complicated to find spare parts for honda old bikes ? I probably made the wrong choice by buying a xlr600. I love this bike but i have lost my left mirror and i cant find a new one haha. same problem for change the brake.. do you guys have tips to buy spares parts for a 1986 honda xlr600? i should sell her and buy a newest cause she is in good looking condition.

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  Před 2 lety

      Perseverance is what is needed with 20+ yrs old bikes many parts sadly not available but i just keep looking mostly ebay and they do eventually come up if you lucky new old stock😀. Im in uk but most of my parts came from 🇺🇸. As for mirror other manufacturers parts often fit and can look better more modern ie my xr600r a ktm same size thread . I would keep the bike you have but it will take time to find parts . Like my rads took 6months to come up on ebay that is oem! After market rad dont fit ! . Here’s a list of suppliers i used .
      Everett usa honda
      Fowlers uk honda
      Ebay dk motorcycle breakers uk
      Hope this helps best of luck 😃👍👍👍

    I'm about to polish a tank for my bike too (XR650R). What pads and things did you get the best results with? I already have the mothers polish and I've sanded the tank down a little but it's hard going using wet and dry by hand.

    • @OldDirtBikes
      @OldDirtBikes  Před 2 lety

      Hi thanks for watching. I started sanding a test spot with 2500 grit but i was making a mess so i just polished . First with the rough cloth then buffed with wool then started again with foam pad and back to wool for buffing . I think the foam worked well as long as not held to long in one spot or it could leave a burn mark . The camera makes it look better than it is ! Up close theres still scratches . But from a few feet away it looks ok 👍. Hope that helps 😀
