- Chemo does affect taste buds. Ironically, just when patients need calories the most, food just doesn't taste the same. Some patients complain of a metal taste in their mouth. Others lose their appetite altogether.
Former chef and Dartmouth Cancer Center Nutritionist, Elise Cushman, whips up some recipes chock full of fruits and vegetables and packed with flavor and antioxidants that taste good, look good are good for everyone.

Dartmouth Cancer Center is one of the nation's premier facilities for cancer treatment and research. It is one of only 56 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers in the United States. About 250 active research projects are part of our quest to cure cancer, understand its causes, and promote ways to prevent cancer before it starts. These projects are led by 135 cancer research scientists supported by more than $68 million in grants each year from federal and other sources.
U. S. News & World Report 2019-20 High Performing Hospitals - Cancer badge
Dartmouth Cancer Center is a world leader in cancer prevention and control research, seeking to identify nutritional, environmental, and lifestyle factors that may cause cancer. We help patients understand their cancer risk and work to prevent cancer-causing behaviors, such as tobacco use by children.
In concert with this research, our scientists are developing new drugs to stop cancers in the very earliest stages of growth. Our search for more effective ways to diagnose breast cancer includes devising new screening technologies. A growing area of research is directed at improving the quality of life for people with cancer.
This looks so good but I have been told in Singapore that I can’t eat raw vegetables during chemo . So I am avoiding eating any uncooked verges even as a salad or smoothie. !!!

Are you using raw vegetables?
Medical oncologist advised not eat any raw vegetables, fruits and salad during initial stage of chemo.
ndokitu furahisha ok but you can never eliminate bacteria no matter how much you wash ... what do you suggest to eliminate this issue yet get max benefit and aid the body without causing harm during chemo?
do the patient get back normal taste after chemo treatment ?....in how much time ?......or is the taste change permanent for life ?
Yes you get the normal taste .That's the good news.Dont stop eating because you aren't getting the taste, as you need the nutrition input
Publishing the recipes would have been useful.
