I spent my childhood in the 80's and early 90's visiting south Derry, where my father coached hurling. I always found that the people there were more Irish than most people down south. They are hurling/gaa mad, love trad irish music and the Irish language. The way that they kept the Irish culture going while under severe pressure from Crown forces was/is unreal. It's embarrassing that successive Irish governments forgot about the catholic/nationalist population for over 50 years and left them fend for themselves.
