I'm pretty sure that I've seen a center diff lock button on Santa Fe!
You're correct... Not sure why he didn't enable it. It's in the left of the dash
You have. My sisters has one
My Tucson has it and it works really good.
Yes it does just as it's sister vehicle the Sorento has as well. It wasn't fair to both companies by not showcasing what it can really do. They are not simply AWD vehicles that automatically determine how to get you through tough conditions like this. You DO have some control with that lock button and it works VERY WELL. You press that lock button when your in deep snow or terrain like this. And with a good set of all weather or falken wildpeak a/t trail tires. It would have made it up this in a breeze.
2 years of ownership with my 2014 Tiguan r line. Never gotten stuck, and I do a fair amount of off-roading. Love my tig
You had any issues with the approach angle at the front? I've got a 2014 RLine TDI 177bhp 4Motion too and will be fitting a lift kit and ATT tyres shortly
Great review guys ! Fan for years now 😎
Great review, and great images with the 4K stuff !!!
So, will you take the Tig up when the snow melts away?
I liked the editing in the intro and ending.
Hey TFL Car/Truck,
I like the new drone camera. They look really nice. Keep up the great work!
YES finally some more tiguan videos!
Enjoyed the drone shots. They helped set the stage (or course).
What is he talking about, the Santa Fe does have an electronic lock system? The switch is on the left.
+TheQuickyouknow You cannot lock front or rear diff in the Santa Fe.
+sic22l You don't have an old school system of locking it as you would on pickup truck but Roman said there was no way to lock it which is false. There is an electronic lock mode that keeps it locked at under 25mph.
+sic22l He said is didn't have a locking center diff... It does have a locking centre. You are correct it doesn't have locking rear or front diffs. Not the same thing.
+dddire straits you're right, I completely heard what I wanted lol
+TheQuickyouknow The locking center diff is optional, chances are this model did not have it.
For the price Santa Fe its the best SUV, my wife have one 2.0 turbo sport, have experience pull the trailer across The Rocky Mountains in Canada I love this car.
So you're afraid to take off road 4wd vehicles.. Off road? I was really hoping to see stage 3.
In the real world there would of been extra grip snow tires on these two suv's
hey
AWD is quite different from 4WD
We have a 2009 tiguan which handles very well in our winters
Santa fe has a locking dif. Why did it not get used?
Does the 2016 Tiguan have a 70/30 split like the 2015 does?
Had to play the beginning and end at 1.25x speed for the VO to sound normal.
Why are the correction comments being ignored? First the title of this video is incorrect. This is a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport not a 2016. Second all AWD Santa Fe Sports can lock the front and rear 50/50 torque split the button is on the dash to the left of the steering wheel.
Roman, getting tired "people don't take their SUVs off road", etc but then you don't push it either in your tests. All it achieves is promote the manufacturers to create more offroad-like vehicles that can't go offroad, no proper TCS systems, no proper spare tires, 2wd even! etc. Please if you are going to review off road, just review them offroad properly. I'm not even a hard core offroader, just a tourer but these 2 stages you attempted here just doesn't cut it. Not asking you to test them up crazy obstacles but 1 or 2 wheels slightly off the ground doesn't constitute any challenge, really. If you are worried about damaging cars, maybe you should consider just putting them on 2-3 different rollers and inclines, that way you can test their traction without harming the cars you borrowed for review?
Dear TFL, I applaud that you got a drone and started to use it to shoot footage for these videos. It´s awesome! Would you tell model and price? Please, don´t use it scarcely! he he he! I love it!
The drone shots are great. Please do more. When are you going to take the Honda Ridgeline up Gold Mine Hill? I'm hoping you do it with a load in the pickup bed.
You did not test the Santa Fe, but the Santa Fe Sport. The real, full size Santa Fe has AWD Lock. That would make a difference.
The Santa Fe Sport also has an AWD lock button. Whether or not he had it engaged it another story altogether. Also, tires make a HUGE difference if he had some Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires it would have made it up like butter.
Does the Hyundai Santa Fe last longer
is that a Dji 4 drone?
Can the 2016 Ford Edge do this?
Right now they are selling the 2018 Tiquan limited (the old style) for around 20,000. More Hp and smaller than the new one, but seems like a great deal.
Does anyone know of any cool dirt roads like this near Philly PA or Near Kennebunkport ME ?
Hey I love the Petrolicious style narration at the start and end of video! *thumbs up*
Still, I'm surprised those crossovers don't have some kind of brake wheel lock control to lock the spinning wheel and push the car out?...I mean Land Rover had it in 3000 BC, why can't Tiguan have it too?
it's a shame you guys ain't reviewing the NEW Tiguan
That's not coming to the US until 2017.
+Mahmood Dawood For North America the Tiguan will be made in Mexico and they will only get the long wheelbase version. It should start arrive in dealerships late this year.
hey
Kia crossover
Update: Looks like the Tiguan won't hit VW showrooms until the summer of next year, possibly in the Fall as a 2018 model. I also heard that both the short and long wheelbase version will be sold in North America.
do the 2010 shortage 4cy 5sp 4x4 please I wanna see it
hey tflcar can u get a dodge with awd
Santafe has a centre diff button to the left side of the steering wheel on the dash
I haven't seen the new 2016 Colorado Z71 go to goldmine hill.
Why?
+Alejandro Gonzalez Del Real We did this last year. But this video is on TFLtruck channel. Check it out! czcams.com/video/DvsG1P0n0NE/video.html
can you do a review of the 2016 NISSAN NV PASSENGER?
+Jaciel Vargas We are having trouble getting a hold of one for our review. If we get it, it will be on TFLtruck, as it's a commercial / body-on-frame van.
+The Fast Lane Car awesome. thanks! Love your videos👍
if ur going to spend 40grand. do it german. however, make sure u buy the extended warrenty. u don't want to mess with vw out if warrenty. extended it bumper to bumper 7 years for a 2 grand. and ull be enjoying the vw or the replacement that the warrenty covers for when it's being repaired
Shows exactly how important a center locking diff is...never buy an AWD SUV that cannot go into 4WD mode.
The Tiguan impressed me. Not quite as capable as the Touareg. I can't wait to try out the next-generation Tiguan next year.
I drove mine this Winter -4 Celsius with roads totally frozen, the Esp and 4Motion together are amazing
Having a Santa Fe - that is complete bullshit. Although the traction control system is a bit rough on all Hyundais, it does a pretty good job, especially on cross-axle obstacles.
THE QUESTION IS... Why was it OFF?
I really wanted to see the tiguan take on stage 3.
To see similar conditions, I have to drive north 200 miles, pay a $100 ticket, wait in line for 40 mins, and get questions on why an adult is at Disneyland without their kids dressed like a Gold Miner.
Well, I might argue that the Grand Cherokee has gotten to the point where it is almost, _almost_ in the same class as these, capability-wise. What I mean by that is, while the GC has more off-road qualities, it's also bigger and heavier, so the trade-off puts it near these, in my opinion.
Make sure you bring the 2017 Tiguan and 2017 A4 allroad and 2017 Subaru Outback to Gold Mine Hill! Pleeeeeeeease!
Tiguan is just way better than most crossovers, but i think they should have tried them on snow a bit, the Tiguan and Santa fe might have surprised people even with those tires. 6:18 Tiguan > Santa Fe
Intrepid Milotic I’ve owned my 2017 Tiguan and taken it through so much in the snow it can very well handle 10 inches of snow without getting stuck and gets over hills of snow easily don’t ever leave it in D (Drive) set it in manual mode and you will se the difference in torque and when need the extra push set it to sport once you have the momentum going
did you switched a TC off? that might help
+Ondra Neuman yeah tc and esc are bad for off roading, kills power anytime slip is sensed.
not sure if you've watched their videos before but their goal is to take cars from the lot as it is to these places, so leaving everything on as you would get the car.
I love these review videos because you guys actually take these non-off road worthy cars out off road. Its fun to see them fail.
not that its a real locker...but the sante fe sport does have a "4x4 lock" that dedicated 50/50 split ....its a little button down by your left knee
I was going to say, even here in Australia the same function is avaliable - Also what i don't get, is why doesn't the US get the 2.2L CRDi Diesel ? - considering it's one damn good engine - If you don't know it's fine, i was just curious why the US market loses out on the Turbo Diesel
+Royce97652 it's because our emission laws are super strict over here. Diesels are treated as really dirty machines and get hit hard with all the emission rules and they are expensive to get up to our regulatory standards. Because of this we pay some hefty premiums for Diesel engines if they are offered. Our laws need to be re-thought, diesels are way more efficient than gasoline and you get much more power from diesels. It seems counter productive for our government to claim that diesels that get 30+ mpg ruin the environment more than a big V8 or even V6 that struggle to average in the mid to high 20's.....sigh.....politics are the worst.
+ZapCannon5 - Yeah i bet it sucks, considering it's a Euro compliance engine i'm suprised - Europe has stricter emissions regulations if my mind serves me correct - Only getting the Turbo 4cyl petrol engine & V6 must really suck considering how torquey the diesel is here - I feel sorry for some of you guys in the US
+ZapCannon5 - MPG might be low but the factors are that most petrol engines burn cleaner with lower emissions than a diesel with better MPG and higher tailpipe emission read outs no matter how much stuff they try and treat it with
+ZapCannon5 - The VW scandal was a shocker, the amount of stuff coming out of them was worse than basically the big block engines of the 50's & 60's in terms of environmental harm - Yet with only 4cyl's that's just outrageous 😂😂
No issues with the review or the hosts but where's Nathan?
I don't understand why you test the most expensive trim level of these cars. If you're doing a video of off roading, save about $10k and get the low or even mid trim with the option for all wheel drive (since that's the focus of this particular vid.).
Ex: my father drives a VW Tig with 4Motion with the mid trim and that was about $28k. Albeit it wont have the panoramic sunroof or navi but same engine, less weight, and thicker tires!! (Not sure about the Santa Fe but I'm sure there's a similar option for it). BTW I'm strictly talking about video needs and purposes. Either way fun vid!
+MidNightRyder1000 yeah those 40 series tires looked like they were about to pop from those big rocks! dunno why anyone would take those off road.
In other video's he has explained that like other automotive Journalist they have to take what the manufacturer gives them. Apparently they don't get to pick what trim level. They borrow the cars. Not buy them.
can u guys take the jeep cherokee trailhawk up gild mine hill
+Ryan Haines We will as soon we get our hands on one.
Are you gonna take the Tesla model x off road sometime?
First off how in the blue hell did you get stuck in a Grand Cherokee. Unless it was RWD...? That just does NOT happen too these vehicles they are that capable.
I like the look for santa fe
awesome
You should do this with the Subaru Forester and the Jeep Patriot.
Why do you guys not get Subaru's any more? I know about the fiasco with the Outback but why?
+Leo Ryman That's exactly why. They showed that the Outback isn't as offroad worthy as Subaru's PR department would like to see, that CVT (which Subaru is pushing) is shit off road and they even dared to to try serious off roading with a press car.
+sic22l I don't think I can agree with your statement of the cvt being garbage off-road as I have no issues with my 16 crosstrek with the v2 lineartronic system. But I also don't leave it in auto mode with vdc turned on. But I also believe that you shouldn't take a press car to a very narrow and new to you off-road trail.
Leo Ryman It is rubbish because of poor control and inability to transfer more torque at the start. It's less evident in your Crosstrek simply because it's much lighter.
The trail wasn't new to TFL team.
What I'm seeing in this video is 3 cars(Hyundai, VW and Jeep) with really bad tires for what they are trying to do... With 40K cars you shouldn't cheap out on tires and use "all season"(=no season), use proper tires, winter tires for mud and snow and the cars would do much better on that track.
make a jeep yj vs jeep renegade video in goldmine hill next time it would be nice
i'm kind of surprised that such expensive vehicles do not have Torsen type differentials.
Haldex 4 Tiguan also copes well and has an imitation of blocking, which copes well with off-road, just in the video the pilot does not know how to use it
This video makes me think of that one Top Gear episode... RIP Top Gear :(
Where's the new Tiguan. Was actually expecting that one instead of the old model
Not released in the US until late 2016 or early 2017
+Anthony Cuda yup they just released in europe. usa models are being built in mexico so expect to wait a year or more.
Why isn’t traction control doing its job ?
I'll definitely take mine to the beach at least. Oh btw, this isn't the real Tiguan 2016.
Subaru , Volkswagon , Jeep , Lander rover , and Toyota , have one of the best 4x4 systems i know
Emerald Videos No Audi or Acura?
I guess you forgot the lock button...oh well
Can you guys take a Jeep Renegade up Gold Mine Hill next??
+Chase Warr Will do
+The Fast Lane Car YES! I really want to see that! My family will probably be getting a new car in the next couple years, and I'll need everything I can get to convince them of the Renegade!
+MultiPurposeReviewer Take a look at the Wayalife channel, he has actually done some minor rock crawling with his Renegade Trailhawk.
Stuka87
I actually saw his video where he took his lifted Renegade up a heavy rocky mountain. He manually disconnected the swaybar, and actually made it pretty far.
A Renegade Trailhawk would eat that trail for breakfast with someone who knows how to drive it.
I don't think I'd necessarily compare the Santa Fe against the Tiguan...
Santa fe rules
This sounds like Planet Earth. or some documentary.
Hang on, lemme' go and grab a pillow.
on the description it says 2017 Hyundai
It looks like it might have been a small oversight. :) The Hyundai featured in this video is the 2017 Santa Fe Sport. The front fascia (the headlights and fog lights specifically) and the rear taillights were facelifted, as well as a couple of other things (some new technology was added as well - you can see the radar for forward collision braking and adaptive cruise in the front fascia as well, also new for 2017).
This is a really silly test. Both vehicles can go a lot further that these two amateur drivers took them.
William Taylor agreed, watch top gear caravan race and watch what James may did in a lowered r spec Tiguan whilst towing 3000lbs
@@4wdsome444 1. Remember when Everymandriver did some damage to a (I think) 4Runner at an off-road park in wintry conditions? He got on Toyota's banned list
2. TFL made the Outback look bad, so they are not liked by Subaru of America, and Subaru fanbois.
3. TFL is a couple of guys with some money. Top Gear has the financial backing of the BBC. TFL and other reviewers when they are loaned a car for review, it is expected that they don't damage the car when they return it.
Doesn't the Santa Fe have a locker?
Kevin Wiltshire it does have a center difflock
Nice video quality, but it is a Santa Fe Sport, not a Santa Fe.
This is my first FIRST comment!
+William Neumann welcome aboard
+Troy Strain Either way, I'm just honored and humbled to be here.
center diff dose lock on the Santa fe
hmm VW tiguan/Hyundai Santa Fe or a mid-grade BMW 3 series/Audio A4/Mercedes C class. For a family car, I'd rather have the latter for the price. If it's for offroading, then something for like a 4 runner or jeep then. I feel those are just too expensive for what they are. They are like the choice you make when you can't decide between a minivan, suv, or family sedan.
+Cobb considering that the new Audi A4 Quattro already starts at $40K, (a mid-grade A4 Quattro is starts at nearly $44K), can you really complain about price of a top of the line Tiguan or Santa Fe? For a Family car, you can get a Camry or Accord and have plenty of money left over.
+Tan N Well I wasn't talking about a Quattro, FWD A4 starts at $37k after adding some options and taking off discounts and sales they offer you are back around $37-38k. All the vehicles (assuming you haggle the price and don't just pay sticker) can be had for around the same $38k that the Tiguan costs. I wouldn't consider the Tiguan or the Santa Fe to be luxury, they are just small SUV crossovers. Price wise that class of vehicle shouldn't ever cost more than $30k, yet they keep raising the price because people keep paying.
+Cobb you said a mid-grade. A4 that starts at $37K is not midgrade. That's base model. Midgrade A4 starts at over $41K, and Audi isn't desperate for sales, so their discounts are not that much after haggling, unless you bought a leftover model, which then, they would like to clear out.your FWD Audi, won't be able to tackle Gold Mine hill anyway, and since you want a family car, a CamCord will do a better job, for less money and better reliability, and you'll still have plenty of money saved for the next car you buy.$38K for the Tiguan is fully loaded, which puts you into the base models luxury badges with less equipment. Overpriced is when you slap an Audi badge on the Tiguan and pay the price for a Q3.Your $30K so-called limit? You can buy a trim that costs less and has less equipment. Problem solved. For $30K, you can get the Tiguan R-line with 19" wheels, similar to the one they drove.
+Tan N How about not arguing about another point. We both agree there are better options you could choose for the amount of money they are talking about for those vehicles, right? If you are buying a sedan you aren't worrying about going up gold mine hill. You're right there are cheaper spec'd versions of each vehicle.
As for Audi, I can't say about their sales, but I did get about 6k off a new 328 a few years ago from BMW, so if you go during their sales and throw anything they offer on there you can get a good deal on those vehicles.
Really?
i wouldve used the V6 model of the santa fe.
This is a 2017 Santa Fe Sport not a 2016 Santa Fe
I think it's unfair to assess the Hyundai and Volkswagen abilities. In many cases the tires on the vehicle make the difference. Unless you are are basing this on the vehicle as-is when purchased with the tires it comes with at the dealership.
Plus the Hyundai and Kia's have the center diff lock button which is a VERY competent system. Roman didn't even show that feature off. The Santa Fe and it's sister the Sorento are VERY capable vehicles when that button is pressed in heavy snow or rocky hill climbs like this. Especially coupled with proper all weather or off road tires.
Both cars are not quite impressive...as many real life tests have suggested you don't have to look no further than the Subaru Forester. Beautiful editing though.
Take a GTR up there please! :)
+scterka Ground clearance!
+scterka It is the best offroader you know.
my dad drives a vw tiguan 2016
Cool dad :D
change title? description says 2017, title says 2016..........
would be much much much better with Roman vs. Nathan.....
The Tucson competes with the Tiguan not the Santa Fe
Santa fe the best
Hyundai Santa Fe💪😍😍
That's a 2017 Santa Fe sport not the 2016
DRIZZLE SQUAD 2016. Not 17
Hi-undai
Vive santafé
Kuhmo tires suck. They are on my wife's Veloster and are terrible. They rate a 3 out 10 on dry traction and 2 out 10 wet pavement per Tire Rack.
But still I think Santa fe is much better
useless video. The only test of the AWD was the 90 degree turn.
But that is not the 2016 Tiguan. Its the old Tiguan...
rondar2 that model doesn’t change until 2018 even my 2017 still looks like this
Yeah what the hell is he talking about all Santa de with awd have a lock differential
They tested the Santa Fe Sport, not the real Santa Fe
@@336W The sport has it as well their is a dedicated button for it.
all 4wd Sante fe models have the 4wd lock. if you used it the results would have been different. unsubscribe getting close.
Your making up your drama getting stuck. Just go faster to start with. Lol
An inefficient locking wheels mechanism of both cars....
Need to be more impressive...
Удивляют кретины, которые не умеют пользоваться имитацией блокировки на Тигуан 🙄
lol
