The XC90 doesn't stand out in a crowd, yet they're almost always present in good company. With stylish Scandinavian design and forward-thinking technology, the Volvo brand can now be known for more than just great safety ratings. For 2023, Volvo has swapped out the T5 and T6 powertrains from the XC90 and added in their place the B5 and B6 powertrains. Watch our Test Drive Review video to see whether those new mild-hybrid engines make a word of difference.

Excellent review and video. Thank you. I bought a Volvo Xc90 Denim Blue Ultimate in December and it is indeed the greatest car I have ever owned. You nailed everything. It’s not perfect but it sure is close. The seats are amazing and it drives like a dream. I believe it’s actually drives like a sports car - take a curve entrance ramp at 50+ miles an hour and never touch the brakes. Decent gas mileage. I have so few complaints - simply a dream car. Hoping reliability is good - did buy the Platinum warranty 10 years 100K just in case. Is it possible to be in love with a car? I am.
I don't buy Volvo, a Chinese automaker. Because I don't want to hand over my information to China.
Do you have any complaints about the ride quality over rough roads? Savagegeese (car review youtube channel) continually complains about it in his reviews. He just recently reviewed an XC90.
@@applerider4205 Volvo is a Swedish automaker. They are headquartered, managed, engineered, designed in Sweden. Geely is Volvo's parent company only.
❤❤❤❤❤
@@benjaminsmith2287 I’ve owned two XC90s and I don’t agree with Savage Geese’s review at all.
Love my 2020 T6 Inscription! Even though it’s nearly 4 years old, it still feels like it runs with the pack just as well! It has a certain character and charm of being understated luxury, and not flashy, and in your face
Matt is my favorite CarGurus reviewer. Awesome review dude 👏🙌
Great review! I have an XC90 B6 Plus 7 seater leased in January 2023, after 2 XC60 T6 "inscription" leased for 3 years each. Well, the XC90 is outstanding: comfortable, beautiful, huge trunk, and the engine is more responsive than the XC60 T6 despite the weight and the size (thank you little electric engine!) but the software is bad. The new Google one is so limited! I love the integrated maps and the idea of being able to do everything with the voice, but some options are either not working (automatic roof closing) or not even present (valet parking option). The best feature of the previous system disappeared: the log of the trips. I used it a lot with the past 2 cars and I loved being able to check the log of the trips on the Volvo App (duration, destination, average fuel consumption, distance) but, as per what Volvo's support told me, the Google system doesn't support it and it might be developed "one day". As much as I am in love with the car, the software feels like a big "beta" system.
I have three of these and and have had 5 in total. best cars i've ever had especially for my three teen drivers
Thanks for the Video, loved seeing Reba make a cameo.
Great video, I’m okay with the simplicity of a Volvo. Has the necessary functions without over doing it. The front looks great, smooth, simple yet luxurious. It’s not a bulky, aggressive look like other makes.
Most of the car’s functions can be controlled with voice commands. For example, you can simplify say, “turn the heat up to 73”. Most reviewers fail to cover voice command features and Volvo is ahead of the rest.
Thank you for this review 🫡
Bought T8 recharge and love it
Three things that put me off this otherwise spectacular vehicle.
1. Cannot disengage start/stop at the touch of a button, or permanently.
2. No physical controls for hvac (don't care about voice command gimmick)
3. No CD player (just been out shopping, bought a cd and cannot play it on the way home) or auxiliary inputs for music storage.
A timeless design❤.. boy when they redesign this it’s over with👌🏾👌🏾.. best luxury brand imo
2:20 They have an amazing dark navy Denim Blue & the trendy Thunder Grey which also looks amazing
I love the XC90. My current XC90 is my third Volvo. Great review.
FYI, you can use the dial on the side of the seat to make seat adjustments.
For safety, touch controls should be made illegal in moving vehicles. Mechanical buttons, knobs, and switches should be mandatory
I don't mind some controls. The only thing I ever really touch on my screen all the cars moving is the GPS but that's only to say yes or no if I want to go to a different route because of traffic. And that's within my peripheral vision and I don't have to take my eyes off the road. I want with the Subaru Forester because it's still has physical buttons dials for the functions I use most.
The whole system is meant to be hands free. You use your voice to control everything, and the computer AI takes care of the rest.
I agree, focusing too much on the touchscreen while driving can be a distraction and safety hazard.
Yes...solong.
What if you got a cokd and sound like Jenny Cash if you speak?
OMG....autokorr. fooled me again!
I did mean Jonny Cash and what if you got a cold?
FYI, you can turn on the heated steering wheel by asking google
We have a new XC90. All good except for the engine sound. Car is plenty quick but the era of 2.0 liter turbo = buzzy engines.
Driver seat is controlled on left side of the seat, you don't have to use the screen
Thanks but confused: This video has cargo as such : 35.6/65.5 : rear seat up/rear seat down. Volvo website in specs tab has 65.5/85.7 ? Anybody can help me. ? They clearly state : rear seat up =65.5, rear seat down 85.7 I believe video is correct.
Please make in Brown and I love a simple gearshift!
Good review. I need a larger third row, im taking this one off my list.
love my 2023 XC90, great car
The lack of an oil dipstick is a huge no no, why oh why? Sure, the onboard computer will show your oil level, but anyone who knows about motors knows that the color, smell and ability to feel for grit is a huge plus in avoiding premature oil breakdown, I sure hope an aftermarket fix comes about, especially with these small high reving turbo motors. My first Volvo, love the car but very concerned about the 2 liter motor, awful small for this size vehicle.
I just bought one for the wife and she loves it. I didnt get the warranty thinking 4k with interest isnt worth the cost. Total warranties altogether wouldve cost around 10 k after interest on a loan, nope
You can slide the middle row forward to get more room in the 3rd row
wow i have always been a lexus person but have always been in awe of Volvo... is it very expensive to maintain for the long run?
It's not that hard to get into the third row especially since only children will be in there
I want to know it too. I have a Audi Q7 and I’m thinking to change it for a Volvo xc90! NYT I think Volvo is more reliable then Audis hahaha
I demand this to be reshot with the Fjällräven Raven bag. Swedish car requires Swedish bag.
2023 XC90 cancels the drive mode switching button. Is the drive mode still available in other countries?? China sure does not have it anymore
EPIC!!
Just got a 2024 XC90 Ultimate. Mostly very pleased but very disappointed there is not USB connectivity for an external CD player (or thumb drives) as there was in previous models. (Anyone have a solution or workaround?) My 2015 XC70 has that connectivity plus a great built-in CD player. We have hundreds of CDs. I want to be able to grab a couple CDs for a trip without having to rip them to an iPhone.
Wow, so glad I'm not alone. I hate having to make sure every new track or album is ripped and copied memory stick. My car has a CD player and for me it will never go out of fashion. My 2nd vehicle doesn't and when I use it I always Have a DOH! Moment when I realise I didn't rip the new albums or tracks.
Hey, don’t knock the boxy look! 😡 I like my toaster!
You can spend more money but you cannot get a better vehicle.
My Dream SUV!! One day!
Need a shade of red
I just bought a Volvo XC 90 2023 Got home and found a rusty piece under the hood. the dealership said that is normal for the turbo Any thoughts?
So what are the performance figures.
i have always been a lexus person but have always been in awe of Volvo... is it very expensive to maintain for the long run?
Unfortunately ALL new vehicles are expensive to fix now days…volvo it’s the same to fix as any other in today’s rates
I'm thinking about purchasing a 2023 XC90 from a local dealer. Everything seems good, the price tag is sitting at a great spot and it's well within my budget, I'm just fearful to make the big move of buying it and officially making it my permanent commuter. Has anyone in these comments experienced reliability issues? Even though the car is in my budget, it would be pretty devastating to immediately need repairs a few months down the road.
did you buy it?
I love Volvo
Is the decent vehicle with good long life and nobody wants to steal it
Still the best family suv
I want it in red
I find it disappointing that Volvo, true to its reputation, has a sturdy frame and decent fuel efficiency, but the maintenance costs and time required are quite high.
Whats up with volvo and 2.0 litre engines? Or its a swedish thing
Watching from south Africa, I love it. Sponsor me with it pleeeeeeeeeeeeease. Nice Programe enjoy warching
It’s the best
did you talk about ride quality?
How fast can the car go on electric before the engine kicks in?
if its T8 then up to 80 mph
11:00 You said GV70 & showed a pic of the GV80. This competes with the GV80, not the GV70
Wish they were reliable
Jag vet inte heller.
1:01 Why didn't you include the 200 or 700 series volvos? The 850 aren't actual bricks. And 960's are just a bad attempt of making a luxurious car. The brickiest brick you're gonna find is a 80's 745. Or actually, the first year of the 760 is probably brickier. It has more brickier mirrors.
Red
Nice car but at $77k hard hard pass you can get a Lexus rx500 for less
Black
It's not that hard to get into the third row especially since only children will be in there
LOL, frist learn how to get to the third row!
You are doing a very bad job for the viewers interested on 7 seats...
The 3 row is very good for kids and not only, bigger than most SUV of this size
Sounds like Volvo really messed up this car.
I hate the touch screen controls in my xc40.
Terrible user interface that IS a safety hazard. I do not believe Volvo cares about safety - I think they care about marketing safety.
😂 only in the best neighborhoods
Basta con queste auto alle quali devi parlare e che dipendono dai computer.
paid program
XC 90 is way overrated and too expensive! The are better SUVs that cost less a lot less!
It’s giving broke!
Like? At least backup your statement.
If you're a buyer you already know what's out here. I use to work for Volvo and still drove other brands and like i said there are better suvs for less money that give you more tech and space for the money
@@ssr1680 I guess but its just something about them volvos I love! I feel like once they refresh them it will be a lot better kind of like the ex90 tech wise!
@@Quinton0520 I'm a say this! beware of the software issues with Volvo there are a lot of them Good luck!
Dont talk shit about old volovos
