The covers of these books are particularly gorgeous! We can definitely speed up the Lynsey reading but not because you are running out of time! Nope, no way, no ma’am! Love your new buzzy book project!

    •  Před 6 měsíci +1

Aaww, thank you, I definitely feel less old now! 😍 And I really love the covers as well.

"To the Bright Edge of the World" gets the Steve seal of approval! I wish I'd kept the beautiful hardcover copy I reviewed way back in 2016

Well, that is a good start of 2024, getting a SSoA! Doesn't happen that often! 😆

I've frozen my hauls and library borrows for the beginning of the year, so I am living vicariously here😂
Emily Fox read and championed I Who Have Never Known Men in 2023, I think that was the catalyst for the recent booktube surge. I am so curious about it as everyone is always very covert in describing the plot minimally.
I also don't think Elizabeth George was on my radar till last year, and I now keep seeing her pop up! Need to get around to something of hers as well now.

    •  Před 5 měsíci +1

Yes, it was probably Emily Fox. I hope you enjoy reading your own books! And yay to Elizabeth George!

Hi, little jealous of your tempting book haul. My new years resolution was to go on a book diet, and I have to read 12 books from my shelf before I can splurging again. But I got excited since the first of my 12 book diet books is a Jennifer Ackerman book. Happy reading.

    •  Před 6 měsíci

Oh, yes, the Ackerman-book, great! And I hope you will have finished reading the 12 books you own really soon. Good luck!! ☺️

Nice haul Britta! I’ve seen this Jacqueline Harpman a few months ago. Don’t remember who it was but it’s also on my list to read. l read « La plage d’Ostende » by her many years ago (2007!) and it was a wonderful book about love! Not sure it’s translated to English but I’ve always wanted to read something else by her…

    •  Před 6 měsíci +1

Thank you very much, Julie, happy to hear you liked the books! Oh, I will have to look for the Ostende-book, thank you for the tip! ❤️ (I just did and its available in Dutch!)

Really nice haul. I am interested in the Owl book and I will read "I Who Have Never Known Men" now, it sounds so interesting.
The historical fiction book also sounds intriguing but my track record with historical fiction has not been great. Will wait to hear your thoughts.

To the Bright Edge of the World is wonderful! I hope you enjoy it! I'm currently 100 pages into Cover Her Face and it's very good so far. I have previously only read P.D. James's short stories (a couple of them featuring Dalgliesh). I'm also slowly making my way through the Lynley series, but I haven't made as much progress as you and Heidi have - only three books read.

    •  Před 6 měsíci

Yay for reading the Lnyley-series! Slow but steady will get you there, right? ☺️ And so far, I'm really enjoying Bright Edge.

I read some of the P. D. James Daghleish mysteries years ago, but my favorite by her is Children of Men, liked it enough to keep it, nice and dystopian. Loved Dave Eggers dystopian novels on the tech mogul theme.😮

    •  Před 6 měsíci +1

I'm from 1962, just like the P.D. James, and you made me wonder if I aged well... I find the Linley series doesn't age very well in that the books become more boring as the series continues. Very longwinded. I used to love them but I stopped reading them.

    •  Před 5 měsíci

I had to chuckle about this comment (I'm from 1960). I'm sure we both aged well, better than any crime-series. 😊😊😊

Hi Bitta. Most of us in the US read what is on our TBR until the spring. Then we take those books, trade them in prior to a library book sale (spring or fall) to become a "patron" and get first pick at the library book sales. Works really well. The last fall library book sale, I got hardback books that were published in 2022 for $1! Paperbacks for $.50! A bargain for sure.

    •  Před 6 měsíci

What a wonderful system!! It's a real pity that here in Germany there is nothing similar, at least not for books in English. Sad. ☹️

If you like dystopian fiction, I’d urge you to try
    Deluge by Stephen Markley
I know it’s a dude , but it was my top book of 2023. It imagines what might happen if someone like Trump wins the 2024 election. If climate emergency continues to be ignored, the book imagines what the effects would be on ordinary world citizens.
    ☘️👋🍀📖📚📕🇮🇪☕️🤗

    •  Před 5 měsíci +1

Hi Jacqueline! I marked Deluge as to read, it sounds intriguing and very 'topical', thank you so much for the tip! (I still read 'dudes', just not as many as when I was young...).
