    Have people completely forgotten that you can amend a contract and resubmit it to the contractor? These third-party repair shops should be printing out these contracts amending them to protect their customer rights and privacy, and sending them back to Samsung. Then when Samsung gets all in a tizzy cuz they're not doing what they said to do in the first place they can be held liable because of Samsung would have accepted their amended contract. That's how contract law works.

When losing our photos was her biggest concern. We ended up taking it to a third party service and ended up paying a third of Samsung's quote and she kept her data.

    I think the gaming GPU thing is more so of they give us what failed to become the datacenter line as they have 3 separate lines for data center that are on the GPU cards though one is not as much as card as it is a board.
    For the CAMM2 on desktop PCs it is more so for DDR6 than DDR5. The reason like with laptops is power. DDR6 takes even less voltage to run than DDR5 requiring it to be even closer to the memory controller but DIMMs will not work as they will interfere with the CPU cooler if that close but CAMM2 lies sideways so it will be able to get even closer to the memory controller on the CPU package. As CAMM2 doesn't sacrifice anything to go from 1 form factor to another it is the most likely to be chosen for DDR6. Makes 0 sense why a desktop motherboard is using it with DDR5 not LPDDR5 which it would make sense with LPDDR5.

Last year I bought a new S23, which is the first new phone I have bought in over a decade. I plan to use it for as long as possible and replace parts if needed. But sounds like Samsung may be trying to make this impossible. Implementing CAMM2 on desktop for DDR5 is not very useful but within a few years DDR6 will arrive, the speeds of DDR6 will be higher than what the DIMM form factor is rated for, in that case CAMM2 or CAMM will be necessary. Cam2 ram is low power and power in some places cost a lot. also with a flat desktop type ram, flat like a M.2 mean memory over-clocking can hit faster speeds. only draw back is to up grade you have to get a ney CAM2 board. That the smart thing about the CAMLP is the LP stands for both Low power nd low profile as the is the second aim in laptop is to reduce board heigh leqding to more internal spave for more cool etc. People are already taking laptop SOC's and hacking them into powerful low power motherboard and CPU combo's. And with dGPU being under powered for the price and needing 200+ watts. APU's like the Ryzen 7000 are getting good with 780M iGPU. Also with Strix HALE coming with 40 CU's it will have 6600 style power when matched with overclock RAM which is a laptop iGPU limitation. Intel know this and is why the are putting RAM on the SOC for speed. But a motherboard with CAM2 could also have a SOC type socket for APU's for thin systems and ultra lop power workstation. Minusforum and others like Trigkey etc, have lots of mini PC's and from a office use case the one with the LPRAM fixed and 780M the RAM is overclocked to past 6400Mz making the laptop APU run faster, it also can by overclocked as the MINI PC can home a larger cooler than any laptop due it is size and shape. As the Mac mini's can do with a Mac book SOC in them they can hit above some PC's in some tasks. The 7x40HS and 7x$%HS when power is unrestricted to that of a laptop to a mini PC can match a GTX 970 4GB and 160 3GB using the 6400Mz Shared DDR5 RAM. I think costs in the DIY builders range is getting to costly that OEM mini systems are getting better and at the budget end it no longer make for a good way to go, unless you budget for a gaming PC is over £1500 as low end part cost more than a NUC type PC. When for $500 your parts will be old and slow or ultra low end like GTX 900's card and Ryzen 2nd gen CPU etc, but you can get a 8 core Mini PC with 780M gpu which if you aiming for 1080p 60 will beat you option in low end card and you still get a powerful 8core compute rather then a 5 year old CPU with 4 core or a i3 12100. which wil throttle your upgrade path as much as having a OEM box that you can't upgrade the LP RAM that is fixed in place. But many of the higher end mini PC use Ram stick, CAM ram for them is better if it make it to them as the clock speed can be tuned plus the RAM power draw is way less. Like LPRAM.

    Spotify: This is the problem with the world today. Everything needs an internet connection and/or subscription service to work. There is no reason why Spotify needs to generate a bunch of e-waste. And there is no reason for the device (from what Kyler said) to require an internet connection if its simply controlling the Spotify access on the phone. Bluetooth, would have sufficed. I don't have one, but Spotify should be forced to push an update out to either make it work locally, or allow the users to run the service on their own local machine but still proprietary and the Spotify app on the car device allowing you to specify an IP address to communicate with. Either that or forced to give refunds for a device users can longer use, or allow the community to run the service (open-source?). But just saying "throw them away" is a rediculous statement to make from a company like Spotify. And companies should really need to stop making crap (sorry Kyler) so reliant on an internet connection! Companies need to be held accountable for the products they sell. Car manufacturers by law have to stock car parts for upto 10 years, something simular should be done in tech so devices need to be able to run for a minimum amount of time - not just when a company decides to stop supporting it.

    That samsung user data thing sounds highly illegal in the EU. You can't just demand a EU citizen to accept being massively data harvested for the privilege of having their device repaired (which may even be a warranty repair and not their fault), especially when that repair should have absolutely zero to do with any kind of data collection.

    At this point Nvidia can just give away desktop GPUs.
    AMD could have been there too. But they kept screaming "must be real raster" while Nvidia was looking for and learning new ways to do all kind of things.
    Sure, it's still overhyped and what not. But who makes all the money now in GPU and AI?

    • @surft
      @surft Před 22 dny

      The features set of NVidia already make people think twice no matter if AMD has the better raster and RAM size. If Nvidia wanted too, we are at the point that they can kill AMDs GPU devision by just taking a miniscule hit and increase the RAM size of the Blackwell GPUs across the board and just maintain current prices.
      AMDs gpu devision exist because NVidia allows it to exist.

    • @vensroofcat6415
      @vensroofcat6415 Před 22 dny

      @@surft Nvidia needs AMD. Or Intel. And then Intel needs AMD and vice versa. It's like the situation 25 years ago when Microsoft invested in Apple. Once Nvidia dominates too hard, some government will decide to split it in independent parts. Anti monopoly laws can be very ugly.

    Wow never knew ifixit was so incredibly biased. Apple also glues parts with their phones and actually serialized components so that even if you bought genuine apple parts, your phone would still not work properly which is the icing on the anti-repair cake but I guess even that doesn't go against ifixit's "mission". Even if a company's products were tougher to fix, wouldn't showing users how to fix those things be the mission in the first place? As usual, I'm sure money was involved and not samsung's glue being the issue.

    I have gotten to the point with these companies that I am about to just start making my devices myself. Really complicated things like a phone, I could use a more consumer friendly system like the Fairphone, and for more simple things like the car thing, I'm sure somebody already has a Bluetooth controller that runs on a pi or something, and I would be able to design the shell myself with my 3d printer.
    The Spotify car thing really pissed me off, it was not in the terms that it would stop working after 2024, I would not have bought it if that was the case and just used my car's built-in controls. It's not about being able to skip to the next song or start a playlist, I can do that from my phone (even though its more unsafe), its about them taking away a product I paid for, even though it doesn't seem to even work off their servers, it worked basically as a Bluetooth controller.

    Apple requires authorized repair places to fill out customer data on their website before they send the parts, same for the self repair stuff. Apple doesn't tell repair places to destroy the devices, but I believe that they are instructed to not repair them and Apple definitely uses hardware locks to disable features or entire devices that have had 3rd party repair done on them. Please explain how that is better than what Samsung is doing.

    9:30 dude you can have whole rgb module over it with heatsink, similar to chipset coolers.
    Best part of that thing should be how close it is to cpu.
    it should be mounted on the back of the board, right with same screws used for cpu cooler, and halve the ram timings.
    14:00 at least Samsung is trying to "repair" something. Apple just says f you and your parts, not repairs other than screens or batteries.
    I agree Samsung is horrible at this, they look at apple and make it worse, as they usually do.
    I would understand the "contact samsung" clause, if they would reach out to customer with emails like:
    Your Phone, XYZ, is getting replacement parts: a,b,c,d,e. Total cost of those parts is $X and installation is on us. Please notify us if they want to charge you more, thank you for using authorized repair. Regards samsung.
