  • There is always speculation on teams getting moved and yet very few are likely to even reach the negotiating stage. I take a quick gander at the board and go over who is currently in that conversation.

    it's almost an hour drive from where I live in North Phoenix. That's the issue with the Canes and the Panthers too, they build a Arena in the Suburbs and expect people to drive out there. And there is no mass transit to get there, you are forced to drive. Arenas are Centralized locations they need to be placed in Urban area if they are going to be successful.

    • @wolfgatorentertainment5266
      @wolfgatorentertainment5266 Před 6 lety +10

      CJ The Canes are about a mile out of the city of Raleigh. Their problem with attracting fans is that Raleigh isn’t a good pro sports city, it’s all about college sports. They really need to move the Canes to Charlotte. There they’ll have a centralized arena, tons of possible season ticket holders due to all the businesses in Charlotte, and they’ll do a lot better. But for whatever reason, they want to stay in Raleigh.

    The reason Carolina hasn't had much fan support is because they've been so bad over the years. And that honestly happens with every struggling fan base look at the hawks attendance before Kane and toews or the penguins before Crosby and Malkin. But I really think with the canes on the rise more fans will come out to support.

    • @CaniacManiac30
      @CaniacManiac30 Před 6 lety +21

      I definitely think so. The blackhawks were 29th in attendance in 2006. Then they drafted Kane and toews and 2 years later they jumped all the way up to first. Success definitely correlates with fan attendance. Once the canes start having success again (and I think they will) their attendance will go up it's just a fact.

      Carolina had a winning record. They are not a terrible team. Colorado is a terrible team and is going to be terrible for a while. I doubt that they will go anywhere close to the 11K mark.
      I would get having the worst attendence in the league and being the absolute worst or a team that isn't even trying to win... But a team with a winning record???? The Whalers moved because they didn't have attendance and Carolina will follow suit it's a mater of time and time is running out especially with new ownerships that dropped half a billion dollars on a team.
      It literally took a lockout and 9 out of 10 seasons of under 500 hockey for the Blackhawks to have less than 12k...

      Bryan G yep it's almost an hour drive from where I live in North Phoenix. That's the issue with the Canes and the Panthers too, they build a Arena in the Suburbs and expect people to drive out there. And there is no mass transit to get there, you are forced to drive. Arenas are Centralized locations they need to be placed in Urban area if they are going to be successful

    • @endersdragon34
      @endersdragon34 Před 6 lety

      CJ even when I lived downtown I hated going out that way unless it was a weekend game. It's such a stupid place for a stadium because for anyone on the East valley to get over there they either have to take the 10 through downtown (which that can take you an hour to drive 5 miles on a weekday) or take the 101 clear around. While yea that's a problem the other way too... The East valley has the money and downtown would be nice and neutral (and if they could use the Suns stadium you already have a really good stadium, albeit for the wrong sport)

    Not sure how it works in Canada. I was at one of the first Capitals games in Landover, MD. There was nothing there and they were on edge of collapse. Where the Capitol One Arena is was a total toilet, it is now a happening area producing revenue even when there are no events. Similar thing happened in Baltimore with the Orioles stadium. These aren't revenues that went to the owners.

    1. Barclays Center is nice, but you are correct about it not being hockey friendly. I paid $60 per seat for row 4 on the goal line, and my view of the other goal was there, but the faceoff circle on the opposite end was completely cut off. The Islanders were promoting their "partial plans" where some games are back at the coliseum and some at barclays for next year.
    2. Houston should get a hockey team. If arizona can't get people in the seats, Houston will. 4th largest city in the USA, with many people relocated here for work from the northern us or Canada, along with support of locals should be able to fill the arena.

    Canes fan here - obviously we've been ugly attendance wise recently, but the downtrend only started in 2015. We were averaging 15k+ before the 2015-2016 season. It's easy to lose fans when you go on a playoff drought for nearly a decade. The Canes also have a BIG tv market with fox sports carolinas/south/southeast. They have N/S Carolina, parts of the Atlanta market, and I even saw them on tv in East TN this year, so they apparently share part of that territory with the Preds. Curious what their ratings are since they've been so unattractive to the casual viewer, but the potential is there, and they've been a solid ratings team in the past.

The team has definitely seen better days, they used to almost sell out every game before their big drought. The market and interest is there, especially with how fast Raleigh is growing, it's just that when you have a bad product on the ice for a long time, no ones going to watch it. I'm confident the Canes will have better attendance this season since it looks like they may be playoff bound for the first time in a while.

Yes we have an AHL team here but they play in the old Mecca which is horrible and they can't get people to really come because the NHL team is Nashville. I make the point of the team being in Nashville because Wisconsin doesn't get to see their games due to the Chicago Blackhawks holding tv rights in Wisconsin.
