  • How to fix Annoying Squeals in Your MacroAir HVLS Fan
Does your MacroAir HVLS fan emit a high-pitched squeal? Do older people ( 50 and above) not hear it?
Kevin Hoover's experience is that this type of noise is fixable.
He wrote this to help you adjust your MacroAir fan if it has a Yaskawa V1000 variable frequency drive (VFD).
    -------------
The squeal comes from the VFD's carrier frequency. The carrier frequency is how often the electricity pulses to the motor. It impacts noise and heat generation.
Fortunately, it's adjustable in most VFDS, especially with the Yaskawa V1000.
Here's how to fix the Yaskawa V1000 MacroAir HVLS fan squeal:
    1. Have the VFD powered on, but not running the fan.
    2. Press the up button on the VFD until you see "PAR" on the display.
    3. Press enter. You'll see a value of "A1-01".
    4. Navigate to parameter "C6-02" using the up and enter buttons.
    5. Change the right most digit (currently a "4") to a "6" using the up button.
    6. Press enter again. The display should now show "06," indicating a 15 kHz carrier frequency.
    7. Press enter to save the changes and then escape multiple times to exit the settings menu.
    8. Optional) Experiment with values between 6 and 9 to find the quietest setting for your fan.
    Understanding the Fix:
Adjusting parameter C6-02 modifies the carrier frequency. A higher frequency creates a truer 3-phase. Consequently, the motor produces less audible noise, but the VFD produces more heat.
We recommend a 15 kHz setting (represented by "06" on the display) to balance noise reduction and efficiency.
    MacroAir HVLS Fan Experts:
I have worked with many MacroAir fans over the years. They are good fans. However, there was a need for heavier-duty, direct-drive fans that could withstand crosswinds, which led me to build AmeriWind fans.
If you're experiencing squealing with your MacroAir HVLS fan and have a Yaskawa V1000 VFD, this fix solves the problem.
