It should have been a draw. Chimaev was on Usman's back in round 1. Couldn't get a submission, but the long time control could (debateably) grant him 10-8 for that round.
Then on rounds 2 and 3, Kamaru Usman landed more on the feet, so Usman wins those rounds.
Khamzat Chimaev really needs to be more active on the feet. Even with the Burns fight, Burns was landing wayyyy more shots than Chimaev was. That was imo a robbery.

You have to love Usman. Not only he was one of the most well rounded fighters in the ufc. But was an active champ who took fights constantly and was willing to go up weight to take a fight on a weeks notice. We really won’t see many like him
Usman got me back into the UFC after a long time away. Was an absolutely incredible champion. Need to see him run him it back with khamzat in a five rounder for sure.
Usman barely survived first round by using all his wrestling skills and doing a Hail Mary by throwing his face in the ground. It was incredible to see, Israel will probably be another Kevin Holland.
And the fact that he didn't take much damage was also incredible. As the fight went on, he started to defend the takedowns. With a full camp, I think his reflexes defending the takedowns would have been sharper since round 1. I'd like a run back between the two but their paths don't seem to align anymore now that Izzy is back. Usman may go back down to welterweight. Otherwise he might have to fight Izzy for the title.

Difference in mentality is so clear from the first exchange here. Henry is clearly done with the sport asking "he's not a former champion, why did you fight him?" Because Kamaru is a fighter, that's why he took the fight, while Henry is a retiree who just wants paychecks or big fights

Alot of pressure and ground and pound. If after 3 rounds khamzat can't do damage and gassed himself out, then we might see Isreal doing what he does best but knowing it's such a big fight I think khamzat is gonna train and prep himself for that fight
If Izzy does a long camp with Craig Jones, he could definitely get the fight to stay standing and outclass him on the feet

Israel will never be able to stop him. The only way to beat Hamza is if you have strong wrestling skills, which Adesanya does not possess. Khamza had a hard time with Burns due to the combination of standing and wrestling skills, the same that Kamaru possesses. Kicking and striking skills will not function well since the fighter is worried about the takedown. We all witnessed the defeat of all the fighters in front of Islam, Khabib, Umar... simply because striking and kicking alone are not enough to win.

Right. Khamzat eats strikers alive, every striker. He shoots takedowns when the round opens and you have almost zeo chance of getting him KO'd. What do you think, that an elite fighter goes in there for the takedown and has never thought of opponent throwing knees?Same did McGregor to Khabib and we know what happened. Most of this takedowns take place when the grappler hit with a punch or a kick, and makes oponent lose stance while trying to parry the hit which makes him vulnerable to takedowns. They are almost impossible to prevent. If what you say is true, someone would have found the solution of it isn't it? And i am not Khamzat fan. But you have to be realistic here. This grappler guys are really really dangerous to someone that has weak grappling skills.

Not really. He still looks the part. One of those fights he was unlucky to have lost, it was a hail mary from Leon. 9 times out of 10 he would have won that. 1 was clear, and against Khamzat on short notice many are even saying he won, and this is guy past his peak. Nope, he looks every bit the part....and if this is how he performs at the supposed tail end of his career, it makes his dominance even more impressive. It means, nobody would have been able to touch him at his prime, aside from someone like GSP.

I had the first round for Khamzat 10-8 but the other two rounds 10-9 for Usman, so it was a draw for me. But let's not forget, Usman rolled off the couch for that fight so with a full training camp I see Usman winning. Shows how extremely good he is. And I know, Khamzat told he was injured, but nobody is going in these fights with 100% health. Not hating Khamzat, he is really good too.

Usman used that slam as a defensive maneuver since he got caught in a standing RNC and needed to break free. Usman was in survival mode for almost the entire first round and didn’t do anything offensively. It even says in the Unified Rules “Judges shall ALWAYS give a score of 10-8 when the judge has established that one fighter has dominated the action of the round, had duration of the domination and also impacted their opponent with either effective strikes or effective grappling maneuvers that have diminished the abilities of their opponent.”
