I live in Mauritius, a small tropical island next to Madagascar. We tend to have flash floods, sometimes 300mm within 24hrs. Yet we never faced situations as bad as images are showing in Dubai.

I've been in Dubai when it rained heavy. We had to abandon the site of the project where we were, but people grouped together gave lifts to people to get back to their apartments. I worked from home for a few days, then the sun came back and it was all a distant memory. I guess that's the plus, when the sun returns, the rain only stays around for a day or two, but it kinda looks bad this time.

Cloud seeding doesn't create water, it can only help precipitate some of the water vapor in the immediate atmosphere! This storm was going to happen regardless! Super saturated air coming off the Persian Gulf mixed with lots of desert dust!😉

We had something similar in my country in September.. it raind the same amount of an annual flood ( 800mm) in 4 four days.. Needless to say, whole regions were flooded and some are still in terrible condition. People in Dubai we feel you, I hope this gets resolved
I live in dubai, and gosh, was yesterday insane. Believe it or not, the biggest and most expensive mall in the world, the dubai mall, flooded bcz one shop broke down due to rain and all the rainwater entered. Pray for the owner of that shop 🙏

I have been in worst storms than this one. But they were back in the 70's 80's and 90's. Dubai was much smaller then. Less roads, less population too.

They did, they warned the citizens…. But it didn’t look as bad when the day started so most people just carried on with their day and around 8:30 am when everyone was commuting to work it just hit, and didn’t stop for hours…

This weather is quite natural in some parts of India (my home) as it has appropriate drainage system to battle it away. However, this is unlikely in Dubai with improper drainage systems (where I've visited many a times) also not acceptable in England (where I stayed for the last 10 years).

During my time truckn I'm no stranger to storms and tornados but I make sure I'm fully loaded before driving through tornados.

I would like to correct you, this storm wasnt the worst, when my dad was in dubai about 30 years back there was a hailstorm so so severe that the people who guide the planes were un identifiable. Things were litterly squashed
Lived in Dubai for a year 17 years ago. Couldn´t deal with the air-conditioning, no natural greenery, ridiculous heat, having to drive everywhere, lack of culture, concrete, exploitation of constructions workers, and pollution.
