  • Comforting, warm food in your belly 200 years ago. This soup comes from the book The American Frugal Housewife, first published in 1828. It remained a bestseller throughout the 1830s. It was common for soups of the time period to have been enjoyed with minimal solids, and were often strained. This soup can be enjoyed as is or just drink the delicious broth!

If you add crackers before boiling they become sort of like the dumplings in chicken n' dumplings. Not bad! Watch us eat it here & chat: czcams.com/video/P_fX1hMuo2Y/video.html

So Monday I made a big pot of homemade chicken soup with a tomato base...delicious! Baby carrots, celery, onion & a handful of french green beans & a sprinkling of peas. Hot, hearty & comforting! Love the peaceful quiet nature of your cooking videos! You look so very Tasha Tudor!

It's very fascinating to me that old recipes like this really take for granted what they assume others will know about cooking, measuring, what order to do things in, cooking temperatures... There was a connection with the cooking process that many just don't have in modern life. Those that still have this food connection are admired greatly, for good reason. Those are the people you want on your team in the case of the collapse of modern society/the Zombie Apocalypse/whatever you want to call it!
