Its really weird that the real life part is the scariest part of the game. I always go oh shit after game transition between dream world and real life. The something gonna start fucks the mirror :(
"OMG Aubrey you're bleeding!" Excuse me, but she has a fucking bat with NAILS on it, and she's BASHING our faces in. I don't even know how Sunny managed to score a hit on her.
well a knife is way more deadly than a nailed bat, a slice on the throat, face or other body parts with arterial blood vessels can easily kill a man, or at least leave scars for entire life. meanwhile a nailed bat will hit hard, but not that deadly.
Well, he sliced instead of stabbing so it's not that deadly?
That makes me think what would happen if you didn't attack in that fight
@@windflier1684 he sliced and it was a steak knife so it presumably just raked her skin- the nail bat is way worse
@@NovatoEx It would still be the same, actually. Knife event triggers even when you try to calm down.
Damn this kid killed 2 phobias in 2 days, he could make a definitive self help book
“Stab what scares you; a self help book by Sunny [Redacted]”
Personally I believe that he was never really afraid of these things but he had tricked himself into thinking he was so he’d have more reason to stay shut in his room.
Bit of spoilers ahead:
It does seem like Sunny and Omori are different - Omori represents how Sunny was in childhood and is doing all he can to keep everything the same as it used to be. As far as I can tell, heights and drowning are both closely related to memories of Mari - not sure about spiders but I’d guess it’s connected as well. He developed a fear for these things because they would likely remind him of Mari, and Omori doesn’t want him to process Mari’s death, and actually learn how to grieve properly - he’s happy in white space and clearly should remain there, right? So I do think that Sunny wasn’t ever really fully afraid of these things, but was tricked into believing he was, and when he confronted those fears he remembered Mari, which helped him overcome them. And then, in the dream world, Omori has to do the same, but since he was never truly afraid it’s as simple as just kinda looking at it and being like “okay this is fine”
"don't have someone to encourage you? Good Luck"
@Zouthth oh no
@@darksentinel082 the spiders is connected because the reason why he fell in the lake as a child (and caused his phobia of drowning) was because a spider was crawling on him and it scared him to the point were he fell in. Well at least that's the gist of it. Thought you should know

I assume Sunny subconsciously removed Dream Basil because he tried to reveal Mari died. Since Basil has a history of venting to Sunny in the past, he probably also wanted to talk to Sunny (both in real life and in the dream) about what happened, hence why you only have the option to leave the bathroom in order to reflect the dream. Because Basil being there threatens the happy dream of the past that Sunny lives in, he had to disappear, otherwise Mari would have. This all could just be Sunny's subconscious luring him deeper (since they keep going deeper into the zones to find Basil/the truth) to come to terms with what happened and to move on with his life before he moves away.
Major spoiler warning about Mari's death and stuff.
Apparently for the future gameplay I believe ManlyBadassHero will try to find one of the hidden secrets of the game. It is called "Truth". It's basically a summary of how and why Mari died. It does show the summary by "Basil's" photos, or whoever took the photos. So apparently you might have to try to understand each photo as a past story telling.
Sorry if this doesnt make much sense. I would rather not spoil the game any further. I hope this will cover up what really happened from the past death of Mari.
Might as well say that the missing photo's on Basil's photo album are what I highly believe is "Truth".
@@grimm_mouli they're not really photos per se, in fact it all happens on the dream world, so you can't really say those exist in real life, they're mostly to depict sunny and basil's memories of the traumatic event in a different, distorted style of the other "wholesome" segment of the game about putting together basil's album with the pictures of all your friends
Fair warning t’all: English be nae me first language, so prepare for literal confusion and hard-t’interpret sentences!
Well I promised myself t'not Lacanian-post on video-games, especially if they're surreal as well. Screw it, may as well Lacanian-post and give people some justification for the hunches they may be having now (while also terrorizing people's minds with my shitposting abilities):
So just replacing everything with "subconscious" with "unconscious" (for the mere sake that the unconsciousness is not an inferior or "lower-level" consciousness, but rather it is *not* conscious at all and working on its own terms while informing conscious reality; imagine the structure a book or the structures of a language per se for the unconscious's structure, meanwhile imagine the harmony/background-element of a melody/foreground-element for place an unconsciousness occupies when the consciousness is at work), this makes it easier for me t'Lacanian-post more.
T'merely help rattle some jargon that'll help do the heavy-lifting for all of us (and don't feel ashamed if y'don't understand, we aren't all taught what it means t'actually hack away at "our Subjectivity" or "the silly things that go on in our heads that seem t'do those quirky actions t'us that seem funny"; most importantly, I'm still hacking away at it mainly because it interests me and it should be struggled with):
- "Signs", they are the things we see literally infront of us or experience generally; so like how if we see a tree, we see the damn tree as a sign and we register it in some way that makes it easy t'tell it is a tree. However, when we incorporate the sign we really strip it down t'something more "simpler" and "easier" for our minds t'work with and which we can call "signifiers". Let's use another arbitrary example: smoke. Clearly the signifier of smoke came up, but what the fuck was it's meaning (signified)? Well that's unclear what it could've been, because I didn't situate it in a "setting" that could lend a meaning or meanings (signified or signifieds); if it was fire smoke, then it is still unclear but I still register the "fire smoke" as a "signifier" and will assume a meaning (signified) for it even if that very meaning is "what the fuck is going on right now"? Now if I were t'say we found out the fire smoke was actually from a fire pit and we're on an island, good chance is that we will associate the signifier of "fire smoke" with the sign of the "fire pit" and then re-assemble that sign into a signifier so that our mind can more "simply and easily" deal with it.
- I do make a conflation with imaginary and consciousness, but let us understand the conflation a bit more in the sense of a camera taking a photo/image imaginary and not "oh random thought for super-cool fantasy battle came up t'do blah" imaginary. Consciousness can be understood in one-sense (analogically) as image/picture-thinking, the assemblage of images we conjure up and make us feel whole; it in another-sense (once again analogically and working in tandem with the previous one) is The I [German: Das Ich, Greek: To ἐγώ] like The I in identity but also "who I am / whom I exist", it is how we situate our self-consciousness against other self-consciousnesses that are *not* us/I; finally for the sake of keeping this hyper-summarized, it can be taken in the final-sense (analogically once more) as like the camera-machine that takes pictures of things and can exist without the photographer (imagine yerself or myself as that photographer) and will persist after the photographer and the images the photographer took can be viewed by other people unlike us and be re-scanned/re-taken and blah blah blah as I basically say that our consciousness does not need The I t'be the ruler/leader/heirach/monarch/top-guy/head as the consciousness/imaginary is an Order of its own.
- I feel like I don't need t'stress so much in elaborating the messy (and massive) order that is the symbolic or unconsciousness, but for the sake of being charitable and for the sake of exercising my understanding of what these professional "hey we need t'explore this fucking zainy part of ourselves" people are trying t'say I will. We can take it intuitively/immediately as it sounds, it deals with how signifiers/symbols relate t'one another; t'complexify it a bit, imagine a chain-link and now imagine signifiers being chained in a sequence that leads one signifier pointing t'another one (like an actual sign on the road pointing us towards we are t'go or where we could go); t'add more complexity, now realize that a chain-link usually is found in chain-link fences and thus the Unconsciousness can be said t'be like a fence that has both structure (form) and substance (content). And while I could get into repression theory right now and all those fucking disastrously abused terms abused by pop-psychology (y'know the terms I refer to, "libido" and shit like that; yes, libido is just more or less the psychical energy that keeps things repressed from both the consciousness and unconsciousness [thus transcribed into "a foreign, arcane, dangerous language" which fits very well with the game we just had watched and something Sunny represses] and is not "horny energy" or whatever), I will simply say that repression is like the holes made in a chain-link fence (I hope we all once cut fences in our lives t'get this signifier lodged into our craniums) and it really is stupid hard t'fix up those holes (Freudian mis-type: wholes) without sometimes tearing down the structure and putting it back up; furthermore, those broken pieces still exist and were once articulated (in the Unconsciousness) but now are somewhere if we wish t'patch up the lack/hole in our unconsciousness (and if yer getting any funny feelings, lack is indeed a dialectical double of desire [think two sides of the same coin: heads and tails, we need both t'exist t'understand the other when it comes t'the coin] and let's not delve into this because this is already a fucking textbook's worth of a chapter already).

It hurts me, Basil took Mari as a model, and Mari took him as a model back.
She said to be as positive as him, but now that Mari's dead he's constantly stressed out, not seemingly being able to get a hold of himself; he also probably keeps reminding himself of what he used to be, having a photo album, saying he wishes they could go back, mentionning how Omori abandonned him...
This is sad, so sad-

Same, I’m also really sad about basil, sunny was hella cold...
He's afraid.. Sunny may seem cold, but he's very very afraid, it's hinted that he either experiences vivid hallucinations when depression or stressful events happen.. so when he saw his past friend freaking out, the hallucinations started happening, he started becoming afraid of losing another dear to him. And if you watched this episode which I assumed you did.. its confirmed Mari.. Sunnys' sister is dead, he's probably scared of losing anyone else which is why instead of taking that chance he locked himself up for so long.. So, each person's main emotion is how they dealt with Mari's death.
Aubery: Her strength is Anger. After Mari's death she turned bitter and couldn't express herself other than lashing out at others.
Kel: He stayed happy-go-lucky (Positive to a fault. Now Aubery assumes he never cared about her.)
Sunny: His main core is sadness. After his sister's death he became depressed and shut himself in. Probably all his phobias are things he created to keep himself inside. "I'm afraid of spiders." "I'm afraid of heights." So on so forth.
Hero: I believe is Neutral and seemed to be the only one who moved on. (Going to collage.)
Wow this game got way too depressing and real. All in all, this game is certainly about dealing with grief in different ways. I quite like the story despite the ending likely to be a sad and emotional filled one.
Edit: Wow thanks for all the likes guys! lol
Although Hero might seem neutral it's strategically the best to keep him sad. Mari and Hero are hinted at liking each other so I'd be shocked if he moved on.
@@-butterfly-594 Well it has been 4 years (if I remember correctly.) And maybe looking back at someone who he
had a crush on so many years later will always bring in sadness. However, at his age I wouldn't be surprised if he has come to terms that she's gone and it's best if he moves on with his life. Even if he loved her, he can't bring her back.

I feel like the emotions don't represent the characters but how they dealt with Mari's death. Aubrey was angry and turned against everyone, Kel tried to smile through it and I assume Hero was sad about it. Omori seems like is trying to suppress her death so he hasn't dealt with it at all, hence why he's neutral.
His most seen emotion seems to be fear, which may be that he's scared of facing reality... dunno. Can't wait to see the rest!
I wouldn't say they dont represent them. It became much more *real* when they went back to reality. We have to read between the lines to inference and understand what they've been hinting and foreshadowing.
@@booperdooper9762 I don't think it represents them mostly because it seems too superficial to me. Being their way of dealing with the events tho, it's also definitely an important part of them.
@@gloom9799 I mean you got a point with Omori being neutral and suppressing it. The big scare for episode one is when Basil freaks out and remembers Mari is dead. That made Omori wake up and you can even say the mari jumpscare is because Omori knows she's dead but he is hurting himself by trying to imagine her as alive but the fact she's dead mixed the images together and spooked him.
@@Iceshooter500 yeah... besides, Mari doesn't do much in the other world, as if Omori has a hard time imagining her do more than prepare picnics
You're right, If you visit Mari's grave in the church with only Kel in your party he starts telling you how Hero went through a depressive episode for a year after Mari's death, he refused to do almost anything and he lashed out at Kel once over it too, until finally he decides to get himself together and forces himself to force on his studies to get over it,
Also apparently after you wake up from black space, when you get to enter Mari's piano room by yourself, and after hero barges in, if you leave the room and then come back you apparently can see hero crying on her piano :(

emotions applied to enemies reward
angry = extra exp and happy = clams
sad = nothing

There is a 3rd stack for happy and sad too, without spoiling much the three second stage of emotions are ecstatic for happy, depressed for sad, and enraged for angry.

Every time Manly said “Kel give me the knife back” I can’t stop laughing.
It makes me wonder if Sunny was involved or simply there on the scene when Mari died. In the first vid, when we were shown a brief flash of Mari being dead, it seems she had fallen from the stairs (which explains her phantom in the mirror, sporting a broken neck). Taking this and Sunny's fear of heights into account, it somehow makes sense. After her passing, each one had their way of coping. For Basil, it was through the photo album which Aubrey stole. (Its her way of preventing the others from relieving those painful memories, especially Basil who has the faintest of hearts....... but Basil went haywire anyway, the moment he learned that Sunny's about to leave town. He can't accept losing another friend even after all those years). For Sunny, his coping mechanism was by escaping to whitespace, cooping himself in his room for 4 years and recreating the times of his youth in a more colorful and kooky light. Since this is his world, he wishes to keep that tight bond of friendship by rendering the rest of his party immobile and unable to pick up items without him. Basil became an exemption though...... Him and that shadowy presence.
maybe thats why when sunny is trying to confront his fears of height and spiders, it only shows the stairs
I know I'm late lol, but I think that photo was of Sunny's violin (assuming you're talking about the one that pops in after Basil freaks out the first time). Not sure how it connects, but just thought I'd put it out there :D
That could also explain why all the scenes of Sunny overcoming fear is on a never ending staircase in his house, because he might link all of his fear to what happened to Mari

Whenever Mari is on the scene I noticed this piano music starts playing. In the photo album Sunny is playing a violin and mentioned being able to have duets with her. Back when I still played violin I would have my recitals with a piano player, which leads me to believe Mari used to play Piano before she died and all.
I’m pretty sure Mari played the violin actually
In the firs5 video a photo flashes on screen and it’s mari’s broken violin
Aubrey: is.. that a knife?
Coming from the person with nails on a bat, seems like a reasonable choice of self defense lol
I mean aubrey wasn't wrong, sunny just recently learned how to get down the stairs without freaking out
Yeah because he lost his OLDER SISTER and his MOM can’t comfort him since she has work to do,and his friend group FELL APART.
I feel that Kel's happiness is his way to cope with Maris death, so Aubrey feels like Kel doesnt care about it, because her way of coping is different.
the white-space / head-space reminds me more of sunny ( omori, which now that think i think about could be read as "Oh, Mori" but i could be reading too much into it ) running to his safe-space whenever things become too overwhelming for him to deal with. the dream versions of his friends and mari are always looking out for him and never pushing him to do anything that could stress him out, which was probably something they did do as children. especially with the note basil wrote in the photo album about sunny being the youngest so the others look after him. except after mari's death everyone drifted apart, dealing with the incident differently, sunny himself shut himself off completely for four years unable to properly cope with the death of mari properly.
i also dont want to read too much into it but i feel like sunny could also be a bit suicidal due to the fact that his weapon is a knife, and sunny has to stab himself to wake up from the safe-space, and also the second time you get the knife the text says its been used a few times. but i dont want to make assumptions... he could really just be depressed and isolating himself from everyone around him.

I'm surprised how long the segment in the real world was, I was sort of expecting those parts to always be fairly short compared to when you're in the dream world. Not a complaint of course, that gave us a better idea of what's actually going on. Mari's death is confirmed, we get some explanations for who the friendly NPCs are based on in Omori's dream world, and we see how Mari's death impacted everyone. Four years can bring about a lot of change. Aubrey was absolutely holding onto the photo album because Basil was going to destroy it, Basil seems impacted the most by Mari's death when you don't count Sunny/Omori. Kel being more or less the same is honestly expected; some people just process grief by trying to stay positive. It'll be interesting to see how Hero has changed in the time since her death.
I keep trying to link the characters to the stages of grief: Aubrey is anger, Hero might be acceptance, Sunny is either denial or depression and Kel.... yeah I need to work on that a bit more.
Kel can be Denial or something
I think I agree with what other comments have said and go with the theory that each character had a different response to what happened in the form of their main emotion, Aubrey is Anger since she gets mad at her friends, Kel is Happy, because he tries to stay positive despite what happened, Hero is Sadness, there's a scene with Kel where he tells you about how depressed Hero was after Mari died, and Sunny is Neutral, he kept his emotions in and that's how Omori was created.
Kel just pogs through the pain.
This is physically hurting meeeee
Curse my massive amounts of empathy...

Oh no. Oh no. Oh no. I am scared. I think know what they are trying to say with Basil disappearing. Oh no.

How this has aged
I just really want to know, what happened to Basil? I mean the scenes we've seen so far show that obviously him and Sunny were really closer before Mari's death. They both obviously dealt with it in different ways, Sunny becoming a shut in, and Basil...? How Aubrey said the thing about her bullying poor innocent Basil just kind of felt like... MAYBE Basil isn't as innocent as we've seen. (Which I REALLY hope isn't the case. He is my other favorite, besides Sunny.) Then again they're both kind of main characters in this game, considering they were the only two with different colors in the dream world, and Basil's reaction to Sunny leaving him during his panic/anxiety attack seems to point to that as well. Besides the whole thing that, ya know they see shadow monsters and such? And the others DON'T seem to see them? (Well not as far as we KNOW at least)
Thanks for uploading a video a day right before break ends and school starts jamming us with more tests and homework, I really appreciate it a lot man

@@ManlyBadassHero "yeh"
Im so happy kite kid is still in the game. He's my favorite enemy in this entire game
I feel like this whole game is about getting over things, and the true horror of recovering. I personally think that the dream world is a coping mechanism created by sunny. Because the truth is after something horrible happens, people change and grow, but while growing you dont have a stable and happy mindset. Thats why they fell apart, which only made things worse. And at that point, there seems like theres no hope for the future, so the only thing you can turn to is the past. And the monsters and creatures are more of a part of their imagination, and how they see these feelings rather then something real (i think)
Aubrey: *is carrying around a bat with nails stuck to it around, even at church*
Also Aubrey: This dude was holding a knife!
