This is a good idea. You should see what Edison Motors is doing. Very similar, but without the hot swap batteries.

The Edison Motors solution is actually more sophisticated despite what Mr. Janus said, aside from the hot-swap batteries. A BEV is far more efficient when you eliminate the transmission, transfer gearbox, drive shaft and differentials. And I don’t understand why Mr. Janus would believe that torsional stress is good for the chassis?!?

It’s pretty wild that the battery is air cooled in Australia! I’ll take the engineers word that the low discharge rate allows for air cooling to be enough. Plus being in Australia, you don’t need to heat up the battery often.

Yes, a truck did catch fire. The company has been pretty transparent as to what caused the fault and the changes required to stop it happening again. Cement Australia has ordered more trucks since the fire so clearly they are comfortable with the situation . Maybe you'd like to talk about how many ice fires there are daily ? Particularly when they have been building them for well over a century . For a tiny little company Janus has done pretty well.

@@diamondMTB the original kenworth t403 prototype burnt to the ground at Janus electric hq and that fire almost destroyed a brand new glider “new truck minus engine and trans”
In Melbourne a converted kenworth t409 which would be a sister truck to the truck at the show burnt to the ground on a busy motorway

Dave, GREAT vid! Thank you! Have to say I am a Fan of Janus and what they are working towards! Considering Australia's diesel reserve is ONLY 32 days, Fuel Security, electric semi's are a game changer. Cost of living reductions, because of cheaper "fuel" cost to transport all goods across Australia is an aspect no one is really talking about either. Its all about swappable battery packs on rigs like this. I forget the company that Fully Charged reviewed in Aus that had swappable batteries 🤔⚡️♻️

This type of system would be great for current OTR trucking. We currently do not have the infrastructure to support EV heavy duty trucks and this is a solution for the transition

The more I understand about Janus, the more embarrassed I am for them.
This is make-do stuff. Looks like a high school project. And the response to the recent fire might show that they don’t understand batteries particularly well.

A cement company doing electric trucks is greenwashing. A tiny change in making cement would be more beneficial, but instead of doing that they get state funds to convert some trucks and get free advertising. Shame.

Cement Australia is doing the entire trucking industry a favor by real world testing these trucks. lmagine how many large trucks there are on the road doing short trips that could utilise this technology ? As to Cement Australia's environmental record, maybe you should look at their sustainability policy before you comment further .
