    I've got a Japanese model JS that came with a miserable Pentium dual-core. I originally did a Socket 775-to-771 modification and installed a low-power Xeon that took me from 2.2GHz to 2.6GHz, front side bus from 800MHz to 1333MHz and two additional cores; the TDP on the new CPU is so low that the fans never spin up and CPU temperature never exceeds 63C when stress tested. I later bought an American unit because its motherboard has the NVIDIA GPU on it; its case is trash so I will swap the board over to my nicer Japanese shell. The original keyboard and mouse are wired, not wireless, or at least mine are, and the wires are very thin so they can be managed with the rubber hooks on the back of the shell. The keyboard you have there looks similar enough to the original, it just lacks the silver paint job and dedicated Sony buttons and media controls. I adore mine and use it with Japanese Windows XP and 7 (dual boot) to play Japanese games (font rendering is often very broken in some older titles, even if you do all the 'correct' regional settings and compatibility shims). My Japanese system came with the original Windows Vista installation and I was able to create recovery media for it, but again, it's Japanese and it's Vista. I don't think the system has a brightness control at all.

      Interesting modification. Thanks for the information. Strange how there is still no Brightness control with the original software.

      @@RetroGadgetMan "Brightness Control" ... YES ! I also looked for that and haven't found any solution for that. Even Linux isn't able to access the brightness. As you mentioned, the BIOS is ludicrously handycapped and the the button controls as well. As I mentioned in my post here, these gadgets are highly focused on "ordinary" consumers; throwing such high tech stuff on the trash or putting it on 2nd hand sale. This might be the reason for low prices because these things are hard to manage and to be upgraded for contemporary usage.

    Windows 10 is an interesting choice. I would be highly motivated to find a way to force install the older driver, to get that brightness control working. I really like your black and white insert shots.

    Which Windows 10 version build version do you have installed on it? I have had the experience that the old Vaios up to version 1903 (19h1) run well and you could also change the brightness, with the newer versions of Windows 10 on some old vaio devices there are problems with the brightness control.

    • @RetroGadgetMan
      @RetroGadgetMan  Před 4 měsíci

      Interesting. I can't remember which version. Would have been the latest one back when I made the video. Pc is in storage now. Thanks for the information. I will have to remove that for next time.

    I have the same e pc which I bought from Japan. Do you think it is possible to change an ssd hard drive instead of the original one will make it faster?

    • @RetroGadgetMan
      @RetroGadgetMan  Před 4 měsíci +1

      If this has the factory installed mechanical drive then it would be worth upgrading to an SSD. You will see a slight improvement on booting up and running some software. SSD are cheap enough now to give it a shot.

    Hello , I found an similar model to that one (VGC-JS210J) and I was wondering if the CPU is upgradable as I want to restore this Sony AIO as well since most forums online don't have any form of way to tell me that if its upgradable or not and if it is what CPU's are supported?

    • @RetroGadgetMan
      @RetroGadgetMan  Před rokem

    Hello.. need help. I have a Sony all in one and it doesn't come on . I have tried disconnecting the mouse and keyboard and holding down the switch for 20 seconds from the instructions I found on the internet. Do you think that I will need a new motherboard or a new switch?

    • @RetroGadgetMan
      @RetroGadgetMan  Před rokem

      Hi does it have a separate power supply like the model in this video. "19.5v" or is it a power cord. If it's a separate power supply it could be faulty. Some of them have a green led light. If you listen closely you can hear them humming whilst powered up. If it's clicking or doing nothing at all then it's more than likely a faulty power supply. Testing it on another Sony Vaio will verify this or use a multimeter to test its output.
